Gyrostarr for WiiWare announced, no relation to Gyromite
The Conduit and Quantum3 middleware developer High Voltage Software has unveiled another Wii title in the works, Gyrostarr, this time for WiiWare. The "sci-fi" Tempest-esque shooter offers 50 procedurally-generated tracks, supporting traditional and motion-enabled controls with both Wii Remote and Wii Remote/Nunchuk options.
Gyrostarr allows up to four players to compete or work cooperatively attacking the tracks, depending on how they decide to play. Weapons and power-ups litter the stages, and each ship comes equipped with a grapple gun to snatch those bonuses before other players can grab them. Expect Gyrostarr to debut for only 700 Wii Points when the WiiWare service launches.

High voltage is becoming the new Factor 5 for Nintendo.. making games that push the system's abilities. To be honest, their ideas are even more creative than Factor 5's so more power to them. I'm very happy that IGN's press coverage of the company has yielded them some offers for publishing their first person shooter, and for use of their 3d engine.
For 7 bucks, this is a steal as well. Most games don't offer half these options and are considerably more money. I mean, this cheaper than the snes version of F-zero. That's awesome. Widescreen, 480p, multiplayer.. just through in some online and I'm as happy as can be!
And for everyone, who inevitably will complain about the company's past track record with games licensed games, just remember that every developer has to start somewhere to make money so they can make great games like this later on down the road. Dig up your favorite developer, most had cruddy games in the beginning. Bottom line: Licensed games sell, and in order to make a company start off you need money. Makes sense.
I'm glad they are putting so much effort into the Wii and I hope other third parties who are making carnival game clones are taking note about the buzz companies like this are creating by actually making a game that takes a bit of money in production costs!.

Orion I couldnt have said it better myself. I was thinking this same thing last night. Companies like this and Factor 5 are a blessing. The Quantum3 engine looks very promising.

Looks good. I wonder if the game will come with *online* multiplayer...if so, that would be a definate buy!
Charles @ Apr 23rd 2008 10:56AM
Even without online, this thing has worked it's way into my must-buy list! Look at it, it's gorgeous, fast-paced and has multi-player! What more could anyone want?!
On another note: I'm beginning to worry about WiiWare, not as a surface, but as a money drain! I'm gonna die from game overload and lack of money to afford them :(!
SoshiKitai @ Apr 23rd 2008 11:14AM
Don't worry Charles... we're all going to run out of money pretty soon too.

Cool. I'll take a closer look when it releases.

looks effing sweet. I also will be draining my wallet continually, if they make wiiware games this sweet on a reg basis. ( much to the chagrin of my wife).
