Nintendo offers free Fan Network access for all Mariners home games

Some of you may remember the service itself was pretty cheap ($5) before, but now it's considerably more cheap. And considering how cheap general admission tickets at a baseball game are, we'd suggest you attend a game and see what it's like for yourself.

Now if they can strike a deal with MLB to get this at every park I might start going to more Sox games.

The only drawback being, of course, that you have to attend a Mariners game.
I'd rather have some sort of brain parasite lay it's eggs behind my eyes than go to a Mariners game.
Although on the other hand, it makes sense. I mean bringing a DS with you would give you something to do other than watch them suck up the field. That's some clever marketing, Seattle, well played. Well played indeed.

But, dude, Ichiro. Ichiro!

I'd like to go to three particular Mariners games this year - but I can't afford a cross-continental flight to see the Jays.

STFU. Watching a baseball game is all about enjoying a day where you can just lay back and enjoy some good fun. If your team wins, all the better for you, but if not, oh well. You spent a good day with your friends or family. Also, it isn't so much the Seattle Mariners trying out any marketing schemes as it is Nintendo (A.K.A. the owners of the Mariners) trying to use one of their products to make something of theirs better. If they owned the Red Sox they would do it there instead, it's as simple as that.
As a Seattle resident, I'll be trying this out the next time I go to a game.

Maybe next year they can expand to every kind of stadium. My dad was even interested when I told him.
Clark @ Apr 22nd 2008 4:50PM
Come to philly!!!!! I'd go to more games :(
The Theory @ Apr 22nd 2008 7:37PM
Yeah, I'd LOVE to see Citizens Bank Park utilize that.
(and, uh, Go Phillies!)

"cheap general admission tickets at a baseball game are"
I HOPE this is sarcasm....I can't find 2 Red Sox tickets for under $250

Could get me more interested in baseball, as it seemed the fundamental flaw was wandering around in search of refreshments while the game went on, and being forced to watch on those TVs they have everywhere, which always begged the question of why did i pay to wander around a stadium to watch a game on TV
jgoreham @ Apr 22nd 2008 5:48PM
Do they do this for any real sports? Flippin' baseball.
Aparoid @ Apr 22nd 2008 9:03PM
The DS is really being utilized these days. You can go to Disney World and a baseball game with your DS, and enhance your experience (somehow).
Before you know it, pizza joints will have a WFC option for optimum laziness.

I love this idea and glad to see Nintendo has made it free. I would really love for it to be expanded to other ballparks in the future *cough* Fenway Park *cough*

2:07AMI used this tonight for the first time since its now free and as a free service, its really really good. It detects the network rather quickly, goes into sleep mode, and the quality of the video is really impressive and the delay is maybe 3 seconds, just enough to whip out the DS after a questionable play to see the video footage.
I am very impressed with this service along with the fact that you can have friends from around the stadium on this network and updates from around the league, traffic information, order food, and even find out where certain concession stands are.
For a free service, this is amazing, for $5 like it was before, it's pretty good.

I wonder whether or not Nintendo has a Japanese language option for all the Ichiro stalkers that fly all the way from Japan to "tour" Seattle.
