Earthworm Jim, other Interplay games coming to Virtual Console
Groovy! One of the most-requested Virtual Console games is now officially on the way, thanks to Interplay. And it's bringing friends! Earthworm Jim, Shiny's platform/shooting adventure about a worm in a space suit, will be released on the Virtual Console "later this year," joined by its sequel, as well as the Claymation SF2-alike Clayfighter (developed by Visual Concepts) and Boogerman (full title: Boogerman: A Pick and Flick Adventure).
According to Gamasutra, these will be the Genesis versions of the games, which means that Earthworm Jim will include the extra "Intestinal Distress" level that was exclusive to that version.
Hey, Interplay had the rights to Out of this World at some point. Maybe they still do!

YES!!!!!!!
I have been waiting for my favorite Earthworm to hit the VC for a long time now. At least I know it's coming out eventually. XDDD

Earthworm Jim? This is certainly going to make tons of people squeal with delight. :)
I was a semi-Earthworm Jim-fan. It's coo. :P

Oh yeah! I love Earthworm Jim! Glad its the Genesis version because that's why I played.
nintendo1889 @ Apr 21st 2008 8:24PM
Only problem I had with the version is raspy sound. Other than that, it's a cool game. Maybe the should include the Sega CD version, too.
omar @ Apr 21st 2008 8:27PM
i dont remember which version i played but i'm pretty sure both games i had on snes. but its still great they're coming out on the vc as long as there werent too big of a difference between the snes on genesis versions.

I loved the first one, but the "Down the Tubes" level was ridiculously hard. When I was 9.
WhatIsThatThing @ Apr 21st 2008 8:56PM
Too bad it's not the Sega CD version with CD-quality music and extra level Big Bruty. The Genesis music if I recall was worse than the SNES tunes...ah well. I'll take what I can get.

YES! to Earthworm Jim. My childhood lives again.
If someone, ANYONE can get Out of This World and/or Flashback: The Quest for Identity onto the VC I can be 13 again.

Did you follow the Out of this World link? If not, you should.
Blue_Falcon @ Apr 21st 2008 10:49PM
I played a 'friends' version of the game a few months ago, and I liked what I played of the EWJ games, so I'll pick them up.
Boogerman and Clayfighter, on the other hand, not so much.
Maxx the Slash @ Apr 22nd 2008 12:13AM
I ****ing LOVED Clay Fighter. But I'd rather have that Blockbuster rental-exclusive Clayfighter 63 1/3 Sculptor's Cut for the N64.

Earthworm Jim = Childhood Memories?
Thrilled that this title will be available on VC, but I'm not sure that I'll be able to relive those memories since my arthritis started kicking in after getting to the ninth key.
splict @ Apr 22nd 2008 12:46AM
do they still own the rights to rock n' roll racing? the vc definitely needs that!
Blue_Falcon @ Apr 22nd 2008 8:45AM
I believe Blizzard owns those rights (along with their other games from that hardware generation).
Donald @ Apr 22nd 2008 10:41AM
And what about the rights to the music in that game? Rocking out to .midi versions of Paranoid and Born To Be Wild was awesome.
Or should I say, GROOVY!
splict @ Apr 22nd 2008 1:48PM
Thanks for the info, Blue_Falcon. That's what I was afraid of.
Kogen @ Apr 22nd 2008 1:08AM
I had this on Genesis and the sound is fine, do not be dumb fanboys, even if the site's name implies it... Actually all the Earthworm Jim games were made on Genesis, then ported to SNES, so the sound quality is probably worse on SNES. People are probably thinking of crappy movie/EA games when they think Genesis has bad sound.
The SEGA CD and PC versions are still the best, though. They did a great job with the music on those.

This comment is so full of false information that it makes my head almost shoot off my neck in a rocket of blood.
Kogen @ Apr 22nd 2008 11:44AM
By "all", I mean the first two games, as the rest sucked. Check the copywrite dates if you do not believe me.
Nate @ Apr 22nd 2008 1:02PM
Earthworm Jim was much better on the SNES. As were most games that were on both. Better sound and graphic processors.
Kogen @ Apr 22nd 2008 4:48PM
I guess I can not expect much from people here, then. It is a port of a Genesis game, the graphics are the same regardless. The SNES sound chip does not have the same amount of bass the Genesis one does, thusly making the music more low/muffled(just look at the music in games like Sonic and Streets of Rage 2, SNES can not do that as good). The game also lacks a level due to Nintendo being cowardly about things at the time.
Get your heads out of your arses. They picked these versions over the SNES ones for a reason.
