SNK enlists Ignition to help fire Metal Slug 7 at North America

The first game to be published in the U.S. by the two companies is the new DS-only sequel to the popular, and totally badass, run-and-gun series. Since we had yet to hear any concrete confirmation of a localized version, other than the fact that a playable demo of the Japanese game was on display at GDC (a fact that took even SNK's American staff by surprise), this announcement is more than welcome. Even in the early state it was in, Metal Slug was the real thing.

Hopefully the screenshots aren't what the final product will look like. One of the key factors of Metal Slug's awesomeness is the detail in the sprites and animation.

Hopefully they take the Contra 4 route, and organize the game oldschool meaning,when your out of continues your out of luck and must restart. This gave contra so much replayability, Opposed to Metal Slug Advanced which saved the levels after you beat them on a supermario3 esque overworld, that basically killed the game in my opinion.

I felt Metal Slug Advance took the perfect route considering it was console exclusive / original. Contra 4 definitely appeased my appetite for hardcore arcade action, but I'm hoping Metal Slug makes an attempt once more to be a more consolized experience with emphasis on pick up and play *where you left off.* Even taking on a 1st/2nd mission type design with 15+ levels, instead of the traditional 4 / 5 / 6 levels and it's over in 30 minutes (if your good enough).
I love Metal Slug, but the thought of playing an original and traditional title exclusively on Nintendo DS leaves me uninterested. But that's probably what we'll get. I'll still buy / play through it regardless, but like Contra 4 it will occupy my NDS no more than a week.
