Rumor: Pokemans: Let Nintendo sell you them again

The latest issue of CoroCoro Comic has turned out to be a gold mine of Nintendo rumors, as a scan of the magazine has revealed another very believable rumor about a big Nintendo franchise. This time they're strongly implying that a new Pokémon game will come out this year, and that it'll probably be the third game in the Diamond and Pearl series.

Since, as the chart here indicates, every pair of Pokémon games are followed by one of these 'remakes' (except for FireRed and LeafGreen, which are themselves remakes), we find this rumor completely plausible. And Pokémon fans, who have been conditioned into a collecting mentality, will buy the game for a third time.

I haven't played a Pokemon game since Red on the original Game Boy. I want to try Pearl/Diamond but I don't know any of those newfangled Pokemon - apart from Mudkip. I feel I may be overwhelmed by all the monsters. Plus, some of the newer Pokemon look sort of retarded.

If they released a game with just the original 150, I'd buy it.

I hadn't played a Pokemon game since Gold/Silver, but Pearl kinda got me back into the series. Don't worry about the new Pokemon. I don't think you really need to be able to list them all off or anything. :P There are still a bunch out there I haven't seen yet. If anything, it makes the game more immersive.

Hey, you know, all of us who don't watch the Anime series don't know any new Pokemon either. Thinking back, when we all first started playing Red/Blue/Green/Yellow as a kid, none of us knew the 151 1st-gen Pokemon right?

Why not bring back that mentality, and experience the learning process once again? I went through the process of learning about the new Pokemon (there are only 150 on Sonnoh Island before you get the new Pokedex, and there are some from the 1st-gen), and I must say the fun in Pokemon that I felt many years back hasn't changed, albeit more fun than before.

There are certainly some new Pokemon you'll like, because after getting to know (from the Pokedex) some of the new ones that I found in the wild, I found that Nintendo is still rather creative and some of the personalities of the new Pokemon are really special.

Alright, I'll put it on my "buy when it's cheap" list.

As long as I have Charmander and Psyduck I think I'll get by okay, anyways. Those were always my favourite pokemon in the show/game.

I too only played the original Game Boy version. Blue, I think. I don't have time to play the games I already have, so my exposure to Pokemon in recent years has been limited to Melee and Brawl. And of course Joystiq and it's Nintendo sibling sites.

As to the Pokemon that I feel rock? Geodude and Onyx.

Never played a Pokemon game, but I'm thoroughly tempted by the upcoming Mystery Dungeon pair. If only I knew how to pick between the two.

Not knowing pokemon doesn't really matter. You can usually run through the entire game with only your starter, ignore types and just out level everything to get through it. I sat out this round of pokemon by the way.

I enjoy playing that way. I usually do the collecting stuff after the story is done as a sort of "end game"

If it is a G/S type remake I'd gladly shell out the cash. Just thinking of a game that encompasses all four regions, gyms and everything, is awesome. It would honestly be the best game in the series since G/S themselves.

I'm not particularly interested in another game that is grouped in with the Diamond/Pearl series, as the whole point to two versions is to have different Pokemon in each version. However the use of GTS has been a more practical way of catching them all without having to buy both versions of the game.

If it were a G/S remake, I'd buy it right away.

D/P was the least inventive iteration of the franchise and I was sorely disappointed with it--I bought it on the release day with high hopes and ended up putting it down about two weeks later after beating the elite four, and I haven't touched it since. New crops of pokemon just aren't enough to cut it anymore--the designs are too ridiculous and, more importantly, catching them all is too much of a chore and has been since R/S/E when one had to have Ruby, Sapphire, Fire Red, Leaf Green, Stadium, and an Action Replay to be able to get a complete pokedex. That's too much effort for zero reward--I remember what a downer it was to get all 150 in R/B, go to the man in Celadon City who tells you to come back when you have a complete pokedex, and instead of unlocking new content, a special item, etc, you get a certificate of congratulation. I don't even think you get that anymore.

I think I might be rambling, back to the main point. There was zero innovation in D/P and because of that it made all the old collecting tasks passed on with each iteration of the game even more arduous and less rewarding. I know I'm not exactly growing out of the franchise, because I still have warm feelings toward the era of the games when there was still a sense of newness, and would love a Pokemon game that can bring that back somehow. Until then, I'm not putting down money on whatever D/P spinoffs they decide to release.

Hm... I respect your opinion but I must say that I think Nintendo have hit the right spots with D/P. I mean, the Global Trade Station is a fantastic way to bring trainers the world over together and make the game more real.

I mean, I couldn't help but be overcome with joy knowing that I had a Piplup (D/P Starter - Water -- for those who don't know) from a Japanese trainer and a Turtwig (D/P Starter - Grass -- for those who don't know) from an American trainer. It was a really great feeling that I had never felt before in any other game in the series as well as a dream come true since R/B/Y.

I also did my best not to check up on any of the new Pokemon and boy what a joy it was. Heck, it was only when I sold my copy of Diamond that I went to check up on those legendary monsters and found a ton I hadn't seen before.

That's just my experience on the Pokemon games and you're entitled to yours -- it's just a pity you didn't enjoy D/P as much as I had.

If Nintendo introduces a third Pokemon game in the D/P series at E3, then I will definitely pick up where I left off in Diamond. In fact, Diamond is on my To Buy list (again -_-') so I might scratch that off and see what E3 holds.

Yeah, global trade station was a blast for the first two weeks when I was getting overpowered Japanese pokemon for my 6+ English character-nicknamed creatures. It spiraled down into kids only accepting Dialgas and Palkias for whatever they were offering (or, when I did get something I wanted, it would be nicknamed something trollish like DIEPOKEFAG), though, so, because I'm not a collector or a competitive battler or anything, the magic just went out of it. If it felt fresh and new for you, great, I actually kind of envy the people who were still able to remain excited for D/P. I'll definitely say that the wi-fi features were a huge step forward in theory, but between the aforementioned flaws of the trading system and the likelihood that battles are dominated by NetBattle junkies and hackers, I wasn't going to potentially set myself up for disappointment by taking casual teams in there.

And yeah, there were a ton of legendaries in D/P. Dialga and Palkia were far better-designed than Kyogre and Groudon in R/S, and Darkrai is probably the best design for a legendary yet. But there were just so many of them, and I tend to avoid legendaries anyway because they tend to be overpowered, but that's just personal preference.

It pains me to say it, but I got only about halfway through Diamond before giving it up. It was more, and more, and more of the same. They added a lot of overwhelming complexity to it (the breeding's reached insane levels, and the fact that you lose all your berry plants if you don't water every damn one of them across the whole continent every damn day), while the core gameplay is monotonously identical. Honestly, I don't mind the core gameplay staying the same if fun aspects were improved. Finally getting 3D battles would go a long way, and improving the story, new forms of battle techniques, etc. But so far all the improvements lately seem to be entirely in side distractions and not in the actual game, and those side distractions aren't grabbing me. Improve the core and strip away some of the extraneous crap and I might buy another Pokemon game. But not until then.

I'd buy it.

I bought Diamond and finished it - but then my copy (and DS) got stolen.

I never got further than the 3rd-4th gyms in B/R/Y or G/S/C, and skipped right to D/P. So the "same old same old" wouldn't apply so much, especially since I'd play it different - different starter, different team, etc. So much replay value, imho. If I didn't have a life right now (*cough*girlfriend*cough*), I'd give into my Poke-cravings!

Hmm, maybe I should get her a DS and Pearl... *evil grin*

i thought it started red/blue, then released yellow where pikachu followed you?

was there even a green in the first place?

Pokemon first debuted as Red and Green editions in Japan. The sprites were so horrifically bad in Green, though, that Blue was later released as a replacement with graphics identical to Red. When Pokemon was then brought to English-speaking countries, Green was skipped over altogether.
