Club Nintendo heads down under

Aussie readers, take note of this day. It is one that shall go down in history for you if you're the kind of bloke or sheila who likes to own odd and wonderful things, like the Game & Watch collection or that Exclamation Warriors game. Club Nintendo is officially launching in Australia next Thursday, alongside the release of Mario Kart Wii.

This means that you fine readers in Australia and New Zealand will be able to redeem points from the games you buy and use them towards goodies in the Club Nintendo catalog. The idea of being able to alone gets us all hot and bothered, so we can imagine how excited you all must feel right now. No longer will you need to box kangaroos and wrestle deadly gators for kicks.

No. You can get points for registering your games but Americans get jack for doing so.

@ Brian: Actually, Europeans get LOTS for doing so. Apart from obviously exchaning them into Wii points, and hte occasional games for time to time, theres a LOT of Nintendo Merchandise on their at the mo, and has been for a While, like T Shirts, Caps, Notepads, Games Wallets, Key Rings, Toy Kario Karts, Note Books, Game Racks, etc.

yeah club Nintendo sucks in Europe too
update in December where some key rings could be bought ordered one still waiting on it to arrive
emailed them but got no reply not even an automated one
a complete and utter waste of time.

It's not in the US but Nintendo makes up for it by giving away promotional items with the game purchases. Kirby stylus for registering one of the Kirby DS games, etc. They also give away stuff with games as promo items (remember the Zelda disc you got when ordering Zelda on the GC?)

NOA needs to get their act together. It's one thing when Japan has cooler stuff than the US but seriously, Club Nintendo in Australia before the US??
And don't give me any "Well, NOA gives us cool stuff too!" The 2 or 3 stylus I've received are absolutely nothing in comparison to the money I spend on Nintendo's products.

Free DS games in Japan > Free stylus in US

I know I can't exactly demand an explanation and get one, but if I could I would because damnit NOA owes us one for screwing us so hard on the registration process. There's some lame 50cent value freebie every year if you register a certain game...big woop. Outside of that you register them by the dozen and get NOTHING unless some game has some lame unlockable windows desktop art or even lamer IM icons.

It's truly low class and just wrong to treat the largest Nintendo market (USA) like crap in this manner so long with the Japanese Club Nintendo, but then to (no offense to aussies) give it to a country alone which is a sliver of your fanbase and profit margin the nod too is a real slap in the face.

We really do deserve an explanation for this.

You guys really should quit complaining. As an Australian, we've waited long for something like this. We rarely get something ahead of you guys and yet you complain all the time. You guys had Brawl delayed by two months and you complained again. We don't even have a release date. While Club Nintendo is cool, it's just a ploy by Nintendo Australia to stop us importing, because they know that we do. Also, considering that Australia is significantly smaller than the USA, it'll be easier to fund and distribute any prizes they may need to give.

I used to help someone I know down there out now and again with things, even imported a Gamecube back in 01 so I know what you're on about.

The problem is you're talking about two entirely different things as far as fairness goes. While you guys tend to get shafted both on handheld and home system game releases, we tend to get the shaft from NOA themselves releasing after the UK with handheld games now and again with increasing frequency, and now recently with home games too (mario kart wii.)

This is a rewards program for those who buy a lot of stuff, you get something like Japan has had for ages, and we get lame computer icons, desktop art, and if lucky a 25cent piece of plastic in the mail once a year or two.
