It's pricey to be Wii Fit
Nintendo just sent us a press release confirming our darkest fears: Wii Fit is going to cost almost 1/3rd the price of a Wii at $90. Ouch, our wallets!
Of course, we all pretty much knew this was coming, but it's one thing to think something and another to have it told to you. That sound you hear? It's our wallets breathing a sigh of relief, for they know that us lowly bloggers cannot afford such a costly package.
With the bundle costing so much, we wonder if it'll do as well as some think it will?

I think this price point was pretty much expected up to this point, wasn't it?
At least they stuck to their "Under $100" promise...that's the important thing...
Can't wait for this release!
Dardin @ Apr 15th 2008 12:54PM
Need to compare it to similar products, like Guitar Hero and Rock Band, both of which are expensive and sold very well.
TheCoats @ Apr 15th 2008 1:53PM
Dardin-Completely agree with you!
MasterInsan0 @ Apr 15th 2008 2:12PM
Yeah, well, they could have made it $99.99 and met their "under $100" promise. That's not the point. The point is that it's a fancy weight scale that sends a signal to your Wii, and they want $90 for it. I'm pretty sure you could pick up a PS2, a copy of DDR MAX, and a dance pad for less than $90 these days, and you'd get better exercise too.
SoshiKitai @ Apr 15th 2008 2:22PM
I swear you people need to wake up: DDR SUCKS for a full-body-tone excercise! ...DDR only works the legs and loses weight for the stomach, your muscle-health for arms, stomach, and chest are completely ignored! (I'm not saying beef your arms up, I'm saying keep ALL your muscles healthy! That's what FIT means!)
Julien @ Apr 15th 2008 2:35PM
Also unlike DDR, I won't be making much noise with Wii Fit. The neighbors will be happy.
deaftly @ Apr 15th 2008 2:37PM
Rock Band and Guitar hero weren't a collection of mini games
SoshiKitai @ Apr 15th 2008 2:51PM
Rock Band and Guitar hero had an over-sized controller shaped like a guitar.
Ahhh whatever... look, the point is: You're spending like $100 for a guitar-shaped controller, we're spending like $90 for a pad-shaped controller that'll be used for more than 2 future games AND a video game that gives an assortment of Wii Play, 3 yoga videos, and about 5 excercise videos. :P

Ehh be lucky your not in the UK where everything comes out 6 months later(yes im talking about brawl) and costs twice as much,
Its going to be £70 here in the UK which is about $140
Ryan Hartman @ Apr 15th 2008 3:35PM
That's because your damn country and it's strong currency isn't sinking like the American dollar.
I saw people burning 50 dollar bills in a garbage can to keep warm. True story. The U.S. is on the verge of an economic collapse and all Nintendo can think to do is call them fat. For shame Nintendo ... for shame.
This will sell 1 million state-side at best. AT. BEST.
SoshiKitai @ Apr 15th 2008 3:46PM
Just because the bill is down, doesn't mean it's out.
People aren't COMPLETELY poor yet, especially in the upper-hills and mid-cities... and what are they gonna' do with that money? Spend it on something that makes them feel better, or have something to talk about during lunch with friends.
...it's kinda' like the Great Depression... even when people were dead poor, they still BOUGHT MONOPOLY. :P That guy became filthy rich.
fliedlice @ Apr 15th 2008 12:54PM
It's the same price I paid for Guitar Hero, so it's not that far of a stretch. I've already pre-ordered mine.
Moose @ Apr 15th 2008 1:01PM
I don't see myself ever buying Wii Fit until I see that there will be a substantial amount of GOOD games that utilize the balance board. From what I've seen so far, I won't be picking it up any time soon.
Phil @ Apr 15th 2008 1:13PM
I was excited to buy the game until I saw the price. Yes, it comes with a specially-made peripheral that will most likely be used for other games. And yes, it's the same price as GH. But GH provides a certain amount of excitement, has great multiplayer, and challenges you to be better at the game. Wii Fit (though a totally different kind of game) just seems a little too "casual" to spend $90 on. If I really wanted to get "fit" and not go to a gym, I could look up there exercises online and do them for free.
TheCoats @ Apr 15th 2008 1:54PM
or do like i do and play a Hell of alot of DDR
SoshiKitai @ Apr 15th 2008 2:02PM
"If I really wanted to get "fit" and not go to a gym, I could look up there exercises online and do them for free."
But the thing is, you won't. That's the beauty of WiiFit: The biggest problem with people is... that most people who say this, NEVER DO. And WiiFit is there for those people. Because it's not so much there to make you Fit, as it is there to make you AT LEAST DO SOMETHING.
$90 for a board that'll be compatible for future game and a game with many activities? I think it's pretty worth it.
I mean, games in the past used to cost so much. When I was little, I had to buy Super Mario RPG from this small store for $85... Comparing that to this, can make me see that this is a bargain. :P
Miranda Prince @ Apr 15th 2008 1:56PM
Yeah, Guitar Hero and Rock Band are also expensive. But they are *awesome*. Wii Fit looks totally lame. I'll stick with Dance Dance Revolution, thanks.
SoshiKitai @ Apr 15th 2008 2:17PM
You guys say it sucks, yet most of you played Wii Play... which is basically the same thing as Wii Fit in most aspects of the minigames... and seriously most of the $90 is going for the balance board, which y'all will eventually buy when a great game comes out that uses the balance board.
And instead of seeing WiiFit as a way of losing weight (which by the way, DDR only works out the legs... arms, legs, and abs need to be worked for maximum weight loss, legs do little as a short walk with the dogs could do the same amount and get rid of a chore), think of it either as innovation (because no one else REALLY made a game like it) or as WiiPlay, but instead you get a balance board with your game of 10 minigames and 30 toning excercises, instead of a controller with only about 8 games.
And if you haven't noticed, daily morning exercises are practically a norm in (business husband/house wife) Japan... it helps them healthy, it keeps them focused, it wakes them up, and it gets them ready for the morning ahead... a ritual that most of us heavily need, but we don't feel like it. WiiFit isn't there to make you muscular, it's there to keep you "fit", y'know: Healthy and physically-fine. And with it as an assortment of a virtual coach, statistics, and visual aids: You'd be more willing to do these morning excercises that they do everyday.
Whatever, in the end you're going to spend that money for the balance board sooner or later... sooner or later...
Julien @ Apr 15th 2008 2:37PM
Stop arguing with kidzzzz
SoshiKitai @ Apr 15th 2008 2:45PM
But it's fun. :(
Croove55 @ Apr 15th 2008 2:10PM
This sounds like it would *still* be worth the money, if I was hyped for this game. However, the Wii Play series never hooked me, so I probably wouldn't get this game even if they dropped the price to $50.
SoshiKitai @ Apr 15th 2008 2:18PM
:P That's why you just wait for the Balance Board.
Eventually that thing will become GOLD for upcoming games. :D
Nintendo is Fail @ Apr 15th 2008 2:48PM
What a ripoff. I bought Guitar Hero but this sucks
Julien @ Apr 15th 2008 2:36PM
Then he realized how much GH sucked even more.
Nintendo is Fail @ Apr 15th 2008 2:54PM
GH owns. And I only mentioned it because people were comparing this Wii Fit crap to it
SoshiKitai @ Apr 15th 2008 3:03PM
The only thing we compared was the price. And seriously kid, why are you even here? Xbox360 fanboy has lots of topics, waste your time there. Or are you perhaps, a castaway? Did they not like you there?
It would make sense, because even here, with all your fail-charm, we don't like you either. What a sad waste, the little runt's trying to make a name for himself.
TheWarlock @ Apr 15th 2008 3:32PM
Nintendo is Fail
Go back to your xbox360 fanboy. I know this is place where you can freely express yourself however you choose but I say go make love to Halo 3 and your precious GH. Saying that WiiFit sucks could get you Butchered. Btw, change your name to Playstation is Fail, makes you look better.
Nintendo is Fail @ Apr 15th 2008 3:35PM
Oh no, i'm going to go cry now and cut myself because someone on an internet blog doesn't like me. I'm sure thats what you would do because after all, the internet is SERIOUS BUSINESS
SoshiKitai @ Apr 15th 2008 3:43PM
Apparently it is to you, since you replied angrily back.
You're the one making a scene, kid.
WHY do you come here? You always go on these topics just to rag down on Nintendo and get defensive when we tell you to get a life. Do you know why we tell you?
Here's a good example:
A man goes to watch a horrible movie just to rag on it.
He could've watched the good movie and spent his money well. But instead, he wasted it on a horrible movie so he could feel better about himself.
See the resemblance?
Yeah, so instead of raggin' on things you think are horrible, how about you go SUPPORT the things you like? You talk big as if you have a better life than us, yet you're HERE... on the INTERNET... on a WEBSITE you DON'T EVEN LIKE...
...what the heck does that tell us?
You really... REALLY... REALLLLYYY... REAAAALLLYYYY don't have a life. :P
Nintendo is Fail @ Apr 15th 2008 3:57PM
So if leaving comments on a blog means I have no life, then in your own terms, I technically have more of a life then you. Think about that :p
SoshiKitai @ Apr 15th 2008 4:26PM
Naw naw, you see, you're leaving comments on a blog you HATE. That's what makes you have no life.
If you left comments on a blog you LIKE.
Then that just means you're a supporter.
HATERS waste their time HATING. they spend so much time on it, they don't have time to do things they like.
Me? Naw, I don't have money... and seeing that I live in the city, it's impossible to even go out and have fun without it. Sooo... no money = no life. But I do have money on weekends and weeknights, so my life doesn't start 'til then. :P
And also: I like typing and debating. So in a way, this is kind of a part of my life. :/
Nintendo is Fail @ Apr 15th 2008 4:53PM
Well see, theres a start. If you get off your ass instead of spending so much time on the computer, you could go out and get a real job to replace the one you have at Burger King. Then you'd have money AND a life. Then you could maybe even go out and buy yourself a hooker to lose your virginity
jk
SoshiKitai @ Apr 15th 2008 5:21PM
Hey, nothin' wrong with working at Burger King, those guys feed us. Those guys are unappreciated. Everyone's gotta' start somewhere.
And no makin' fun of hookers either, they're abused in these areas. Where prostitution's legal, they're safe and use it as a real job (a rather horrid job, but a job that pays nonetheless). But around these hooker-free zones, pimps abuse these poor women who can't even see a future for themselves. (Mind you, some of them are ****es, but who wouldn't be if you had to work like that?)
And besides, I'm not on the computer all day. I multi-task. As we speak: I'm reading a book, watching tv, making a stage, having breakfast, and doodling on a piece of paper. :P
TheOverlord#2(Toon Link FTW)(1461-5875-9923) @ Apr 15th 2008 6:09PM
Sorry to drop in but, why are you telling him to get off the computer when you are on too?(Though using it so you can flame and get yelled at)
If you tell him to get a life, why are you wasting your "valuable" time here?
Max Headroom @ Apr 15th 2008 3:02PM
I think I will end up getting this. Toys 'R' Us has had some good first/second week sales on the Wii's biggest games, so I hope they have some sort of good promotion with this one.
Brento @ Apr 15th 2008 7:13PM
is it me or should ShoshiKitai go ahead and start his own blog? Just make one comment and leave it at that buddy.
SoshiKitai @ Apr 15th 2008 7:26PM
:P Don't like making blogs. Too personal for me. (I'd work for one though... hint hint... I did send in an application :P)
I like to comment.
Mack2D2 @ Apr 15th 2008 9:43PM
Seems a bit spendy to me... hopefully someone will gift it to me. I wasn't gonna get GH3 cuz the price (40 bucks for a plastic mold of a guitar??... wtf?) but someone gave it to me for xmas and I'm still loving it. I understand that this isn't just a scale and some mini games, the scale detects balance from left to right, forward to back, and not just weight... so there is more to this than most of you realize, but I definitely don't think it justifies the price either. $75 should have been do-able if they really expect to sell as much as they say... I for one will continue my gym membership and enjoy some Mario Kart, Boom Blox, Okami, and No More Heroes before I try WiiFit
Discosis @ Apr 15th 2008 11:00PM
Be glad it didn't come out to the equivalent of the AUS price (AUD 149.95).
dann bohn @ Apr 16th 2008 9:17AM
I am going to wait a few weeks to see if it is worth it.
Harlequin @ Apr 16th 2008 9:21AM
Be happy... in europe it costs around 86€ - something like 136 US$ -_-
So I think you're getting it quite cheap.
Quinton @ Apr 18th 2008 11:53AM
Dear SoshiKitai,
Are you Wii Fit's P.I.M.P.? Geez... lol
Sincerely Won't EVER purchase Wii Fit Unless It's AT LEAST 35% Off This Original Price,
Quinton
