White GameCube controller available for preorder
Even though our initial reveal of Nintendo's new white GameCube controller resulted in a consensus among the commenters that only a Bluetooth Waveird with rumble and the ability to make only the most deliciously golden toast would be satisfactory, we're certain that somebody is interested in the controller that Nintendo has offered here in the real world. For those people, NCSX brings good news: they've started taking preorders on the new version of the GameCube controller, with its Wii-white color and longer cord, at a price of $24.90. The controllers should ship out at the end of this month, just in time to be pretty late for Brawl!

It would be in time for Mario Kart Wii.
TheWarlock @ Apr 14th 2008 7:17PM
So wait, let me get this clear, the only difference between this controller and the other three that I already own is that:
The color, The length of the cord and the color... oh, AND the price... HOW CAN I RESIST? I'll get one beginning of may.

On the subject of GC controllers...I think my Wavebird is broken, as in Brawl whenever I try to do a charged smash with it, I usually have to try a few times before it works, but don't have this issue with the Classic Controller or the Wiimote+nunchuck.
Or is it like that for everyone?
Alan Friesen @ Apr 14th 2008 8:06PM
Range on the wavebird isn't as great as range on the wii remote, I've found. Perhaps you're sitting too far away from it.
Jhongerkong @ Apr 14th 2008 8:06PM
nope, its broken.
Croove55 @ Apr 14th 2008 8:08PM
Sounds like your control stick's worn out. It happened with my brother's wavebird, among a myriad of other technical ailments. I'd just replace it.
Joshua @ Apr 14th 2008 8:05PM
What's the old cord length?
Croove55 @ Apr 14th 2008 8:09PM
Using my amazing math skills, I have determined it to be a little over six feet.
Joshua @ Apr 14th 2008 8:10PM
How about in teh meters?
Croove55 @ Apr 14th 2008 8:19PM
Aboot 2 meters.
Joshua @ Apr 14th 2008 8:23PM
OK, I'll assume that it's officially 2 m, then.
So for the new one...3 m, that should be long enough...

(sorry, I couldn't resist)
That's what she said.

Here I was hopping classic control support in GC games, but no...

i wish they would bring back the Wavebird. i didnt have a Gamecube til the end of its lifecycle so i never picked one up. now i want one and cant find it. i imagine they would be kinda pricey on eBay now since as my local GameCrazy employee told me "those things are like gold now".
Sonic_13 @ Apr 15th 2008 12:49AM
I wish they would stop making GameCube controllers altogether to force people to play with the Wii remote and realize how it really is the superior control method (whether it be Smash Bros., Mario Kart, or just about any other game).

Not yet...
Not yet.
There's some things you can still do with a GC controller that a Wiimote+Nunchuk can't do (and just feels uncomfortable on the Classic Controller)...
I mean, the Wiimote+Nunchuk CAN do things the GC controller can, but on some controls, adding the waggle-feature kinda' confuses the overall command-inputs.
So until they better the Wiimote+Nunchuk combo to perfection, the GC controller needs to still be in there for a back-up plan.
iofthestorm @ Apr 15th 2008 2:14AM
Thing is, it's not better for a lot of things. In Brawl, with Wiimote there's no replacement for the C-stick (the shake thing has a bit of delay which makes it worthless compared to just doing a smash attack, the point of the c stick is that it's faster). I use the c stick way too much, so I just can't use the Wiimote for Brawl.

+£10 for +1m length....no...no thank you.....I'm happy with my £2 white GC pad. I can sit on the floor......*goes back to playing MKW online*
Haohmaru @ Apr 15th 2008 6:17AM
I've grown attached to the remote/nunchuck control scheme for Brawl. I might pick one up to use for, well, actual GameCube games, though. At least the new color matches my Wii.
NudNiq @ Apr 15th 2008 10:27AM
I bought a couple of extension cables last year and they work great (for my gamecube controllers). They are $3-$5 depending where you look (Amazon/Play-Asia)
INotI @ Apr 15th 2008 12:27PM
I think I'll pick this up. It's no more expensive than the official GC controller I was going to buy off Nintendo's site, or that I would get at Best Buy, it's a nice white and it has a longer cord. Sold.
