Glitching with ghosts in Mario Kart Wii
Well, folks, the game we're all looking forward to might not be so perfect after all. Now, while the glitch itself works 100%, it seems that Nintendo is mindful of it and removing the faulty times from the leaderboards. So, at least the cheaters aren't getting the credit they so badly want.

Can Wii games get patched like on Xbox 360?
Timdogg @ Apr 14th 2008 2:26PM
Ummmm, is it just me or did that not make sense...?
Randy @ Apr 14th 2008 2:31PM
Agreed, I watched the whole thing and I still don't understand what it was that I was looking at.
Zero-K @ Apr 14th 2008 2:36PM
Glad I'm not the only one. I don't understand how that's cheating.
DZounar @ Apr 14th 2008 2:36PM
Me too...

Weelll, technically you don't ever finish the race. That's like declaring yourself world champion after you've won the very first match. It's a software exploit but cheating nonetheless since it's giving you an advantage over anyone else.

There apparently is a loophole in Mario Kart Wii in which you drive a single lap on a track and then turn around right after the finishing line so the cloud guy with the "wrong way" sign shows up. I don't know exactly how this works but I saw replays for 25s runs 3 laps in SNES Ghost Valley 2 and that's just impossible. The crazy times have been removed so far and it seems they are managing the rankings pretty well so far. There are some incredible times on their still but if you watch the replay you can see that they are real.
I can tell you Mario Kart Wii is worth the wait if you loved Mario Kart. To me it has some really frustrating choices Nintendo made to balance the game, but the online multiplayer options are a blast, ghost racing is really fun and challenging and I think the ranking boards will be tuned in the future.
There can be patches for the Wii, it's happening all the time. I get updates from game discs and announcements on the Wii message board. If they can reflash my software to a higher version than they can make game routines work differently too.

After reading else where, I get it.
Mario Kart Wii has a bug, where if you do 1 full lap, and go in reverse near the start/finish line, and quit, the game thinks you finished the race and saves the ghost time. So you finish an unbeatable score.
If I was Nintendo, I would stop producing Mario Kart Wii games, stop the ghosting service, fix the bug release a new version all by using a new address to connect for submitting/playing ghost data (or whatever how it works). And offer free replacement disk for those you has Mario Kart Wii old version.
This way:
- The problem will be solved.
- Old game edition won't be able to cheat as the ghosting service would be down, however they can exchange the game with a new one were the bug is fixed.
And of course hopefully make learn Nintendo about an online patch system.

Now that was stupid, I should have watched the video beforehand. I saw that on my Wii already in the real channel. Well nevermind, apparently you just let the counter sit there and run. Because all figures except the first lap will be 9:99:99 the program can't read it and extracts only the first lap (which has good data).
Good_Bytes @ Apr 14th 2008 2:52PM
Ah you beat me :)

@ Good_Bytes
After reading your comment, I sorta had an idea of what this video was about. A good explanation should suffice, but oh well, I guess all of us here in the US will get to play it eventually [looks at watch].
TheWarlock @ Apr 14th 2008 2:40PM
Well, you guys are sooooo clueless. It is OBVIOUSLY video about how many people they can get to feel stupid about not knowing what the hell this video is about. In fact, it is so pointless that it would need three more promotions to get to be a complete waste of time.
Timdogg @ Apr 14th 2008 2:43PM
Still waiting for my "Edited" post folks!!!!!
PhoenixGeek @ Apr 14th 2008 2:44PM
An explanation would have been nice for how this worked. It appears that after doing one lap around a course if you turn around and look at the finish line it will end the race with the time you have after 1 lap. This doesn't really make sense so I'm going to go ahead and guess there is more to it that isn't being shown in the video because it's just a video of the ghost, not the actual racing that recorded it.

ggggghostssss?!?!
this game looks too scary for me

I want my 80s back, what happened to "I ain't afraid of no ghost"?
Mr Khan @ Apr 14th 2008 3:51PM
I have to agree, David, the video is helpful, but context would be more so

I say just try your best at your own times and if #1 is 1 minute and #2 is 3 minutes...then something is wrong. This gives me a great idea though, Nintendo should have ghosts for 1 lap and ghosts for a full race.
Also...that got me a little more hyped(although i'm already hyped) for MKWii. The graphics and tracks look great!(Even if it was 3 races)
And...when you unlock it, who will use their Mii to race? If the unlockable SMG character is a Luna...i'll probably use it.
TheOverlord#2(Toon Link FTW)(1461-5875-9923) @ Apr 14th 2008 4:06PM
Make that a "Luma"... >_
Mr Khan @ Apr 14th 2008 4:15PM
It has to be Rosalina
How would a Luma drive, anyway? Stubby arms are stubby
TheOverlord#2(Toon Link FTW)(1461-5875-9923) @ Apr 14th 2008 6:33PM
Look at Toad, Baby Peach, Baby Mario
:P
Has anyone unlocked it yet? People got all 35 characters in Brawl in 2-3 days.
TheOverlord#2(Toon Link FTW)(1461-5875-9923) @ Apr 14th 2008 8:12PM

@TheOverlord
You can unlock all characters in Brawl in only a few hours. Go to Special Brawl, turn Stamina and Flower on, then turn Stamina down to 1. The instant the match start both characters die from the flower effect and all you have to do is do that 449 more times and you'll have all of the characters.
