Adventure's waiting just ahead in Speed Racer
MTV Multiplayer has some exclusive gameplay footage of the upcoming Speed Racer game (embedded above), and we're actually more impressed than we thought we'd be. We do, however, have some complaints:
(Note: MTV's videos are region-locked, unfortunately, so we're sorry if those of you outside of the U.S. can't watch it!)
- The constant barrage of comments from the other racers -- is that really necessary? It might be fine at first, but we can foresee our patience wearing thin if that continues throughout the whole game.
- The tracks look a little on the dull side.
- Where's the music? Obviously the actual game will have it, we just wish we could've gotten a taste of it in the gameplay video.

When I first heard about it, Speed Racer interested me very much.
This definitely increased the hype for me. I'm starting to get to the "I can't wait for this game" level. It really does look cool.

Are you kidding me? This game looks pathetic. The tracks are awful, you get the same crashes over and over again, and there's WAY too much taunting from the other drivers.
This video was way too boring. I couldn't even finish it. Plus, the movie doesn't even look good.

Go Speed Racer go. He's coming round the track/ never know if he's ever gonna come back. he's a demon on wheels. Very F-Zero, not that I've ever played one

This looks pretty awesome, it really reminds me of the "Wipeout" series on the playstation console. I like how most of these type of games don't just revolve around the speed factor but also how quick your reflexes are and how eye-pretty the creative tracks can be. But I think it'd be better if it wasn't so cartoony though.

Speed I do not think you should be in this race haha! The Mach 5 is not ready haha! But Pops I must be in this race haha! Very well uha but you know I am not really your father haha!
Ahh!

wipeout was a good example. i was gonna say extreme-g myself, but it definitely falls within those lines. if they could just piece it together with some decent music, i'd give it a playthrough
TheWarlock @ Apr 15th 2008 12:16AM
Oh, I hate double-posting but I was going to say that Wipeout had some of the best playlist songs ever conceived in the history of mankind. It was like Paul Oakenfold mixed with Daft Punk. ~Thanks! ; )

:) I know to most people the upcoming Speed Racer movie looks bad... but if you think about it: The Speed Racer toon/anime wasn't that great itself. And because of that, it was the greatest thing ever seen.
I mean come on: Racing AND Ninja Fights?! How much more dramatic can they get?! :P Haa~~... yeah, I'm totally gonna' waste my money to see that jewel of a movie. :D
The game in itself? The voice-acting's pretty okay! I thought it would go above and beyond itself. But it's pretty decent.
It does get a bit aggravating when the comments keep coming and coming, but let's hope they realize that they should lessen it, or give an option to turn off all in-game dialogue.
The racing in itself? Very basic, and can be really fun! I can't wait to see how multiplayer will be like... (and they better have multiplayer...)

Haha, exactly :). The cartoon was incredibly cheesy, but that's what made it great. So, I don't mind (and even encourage) high levels of cheesiness in the movie/game.

I heard a transsexual Larry W. is unlockable.

Seems pretty dull, even Top Gear and Top Gear 2 for the Snes are better than this game, for me.
Those taunts, trying to make it closer they can to the anime i must guess huh.
Not so wanting this, i never liked the anime also, I never considered a anime, never will
