You already have a Wii Wheel in your own home
Being nothing more than a chunky, round slab of plastic with a convenient slot for your Wiimote to slide into, the Wii Wheel is fairly easily imitated. As if to illustrate this fact, one Japanese blogger fashioned the DIY Wii Wheel you see above, using only a saucepan lid and a strip of parcel tape. We suppose it's a cheaper alternative to shelling out cash to equip another three players, but doesn't this make the B button inaccessible? Steer past the break for another (considerably more wheel-like) homemade example.

I'd be concerned with the total lack of B button use myself. Though I do have a madcatz steering wheel that is no longer functional, so I may see what I can do with that.

Meh, maybe not. I like the Wii Wheel as it is. Got mine with Mario Kart today and haven't tried the other controls yet. I want to play Need for Speed or some other drift game with that wheel. I don't know what the problem with some old school Mario Karters is, I played Mario Kart 64 last on VC and have never seen Double Dash or MK DS so this is all new for me but the drifting turbo is some sweet stuff. I loved snaking but this continuous flow in your driving is a really cool challenge.
As a giveaway or for a tenner respectively this thing is actually pretty cool. I like the shape and size of the wheel and I don't have tiny hands and it still is pretty well handling. There will be copies, and lots of them. Maybe even a steering solution with the Wiimote components built into it. But time will tell and we will tear apart all the shitty ones anyway.

He has some explaining to do... OR he could just live in a place where they already released MarioKart... you know... like maybe Europe???
meist3r @ Apr 12th 2008 5:56AM
@Nick: Warlock is completely right, I come from Europe where the release was yesterday (11th of April) many people got the game way before that. I know of at least half a dozens people that got it from under the counter on Thursday already and an Austrian online game store (which is pretty popular because of cross/grey imports) sent out the game almost a week before the launch. So yeah there are a lot of people playing this right now.
And if anyone asks themselves if this is fair: STFU and go play some Brawl! We don't even have a release date for that yet. :/

You could ducktape the wii-mote to a useless copy of "Escape from Bug Island" instead. Last time I saw that game it was hanging at the Hunter's Lodge.
:(

You don't really need the B button anyway. You can drift with the 1 button instead.

Best idea is a frisbee and double sided tape!
SoshiKitai @ Apr 11th 2008 5:58PM
Er... all you have to do is push the Wiimote down on the left side, it should automatically hit the B Button if it isn't taped too tightly.

It would be cheaper to just go to a junk yard and get a REAL steering wheel >:D
