Okami advertisement pokes fun at itself
It's no secret that Okami's sales on the PS2 weren't too great, despite the fact that the game was hailed by critics and gamers alike. Some companies might be touchy about things like that, but not Capcom. Even though the gem they published sold a lot less copies than it deserved to, Capcom at least has a sense of humor about the whole thing, as the ad to the right shows us. Hailing Okami as "the best game you've never played" is one of the funniest Wii ads we've seen, in fact. Way to go, Capcom -- that's what we call good marketing.

Definitely picking this one up
Shadow31 @ Apr 7th 2008 8:29PM
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I'M BUYING THIS NOW LOLZ!!!!1!1!!
No seriously, though, I wanted this game anyways, and that ad is effing hilarious.
Mr_oHH @ Apr 7th 2008 8:35PM
good for them, but this time maybe they could market themselves better on the wii than they did on the ps2. capcom needs a better way to market new franchises, especially one this great
DBuck_Eye @ Apr 7th 2008 8:38PM
Ex-Clover Studios employees are grinding their teeth to dust right now...
Perverted @ Apr 7th 2008 9:06PM
I don't want to buy it(ps2 port boooo).....But if it's a really good game...Uh >.< I dunno what to do......I suppose it depends on the price.....less that £17 and I'll go for it.
SoshiKitai @ Apr 7th 2008 11:27PM
Let's put it this way, I put my @ss on the line advertising this game to family and friends... I went on tons of forums and review sites to make this game known... and even still, this grand game never got the amount of love it deserved. And trust me, it's not just a "game that depends on your taste". It literally is a MASTERPIECE. No lie. No joke. Nadda'. Totally serious.
So if you don't get this game.......... I will see you as an awful human being. =_=
RitchCORRUPTION @ Apr 15th 2008 1:25PM
I just feel sorry for you. Not to mention the only wii games you can buy for £17 aren't worth a moment of your time.
RitchCORRUPTION @ Apr 15th 2008 1:25PM
I just feel sorry for you. Not to mention the only wii games you can buy for £17 aren't worth a moment of your time.
KBaese @ Apr 7th 2008 9:26PM
I am definitely going to have to pick this one up at some point. I played a little bit of the PS2 version, and it was, simply put, amazing. I can't wait to get this game on the Wii. Finally something to distract me from real life besides Smash Bros.
TheCoats @ Apr 7th 2008 9:31PM
such a good game but nobody played it :( much like shadow of the colosus.....love both games and am stoked about this release
Shadow31 @ Apr 7th 2008 9:55PM
Imagine Shadow of the Colossus Wii!!! Seriously, I am usually anti-waggle, but that game could potentially pull it off... climbing up a colossus and thrusting the sword into it... it could be breathtaking...
Legion @ Apr 7th 2008 10:09PM
We wont get SotC on the Wii because Team Ico belongs to Sony.
That said, I'll be picking this up. Been wanting to play it since it came out, and here's the perfect opportunity. I heard the controls are harder though due to the nature of the Wiimote/Nunchuk, but oh well.
SoshiKitai @ Apr 7th 2008 11:41PM
How about more ex-Clover games for the Wii?
Viewtiful Joe and God Hand... :)
Those'd be awesome.
samfish @ Apr 8th 2008 2:11AM
Viewtiful Joe wouldn't work at all on the Wii (andyou can get it on GC), but God Hand (The Greatest Game Ever) would be awesome on the Wii.
Dominatrix Wiimote spanking=WIN.
ArmorForVictor @ Apr 9th 2008 4:49PM
this is all i have to say http://youtube.com/watch?v=vAga2AjfZlg seriously god hand is amazing.
TheOverlord#2(Toon Link FTW)(1461-5875-9923) @ Apr 7th 2008 9:55PM
Capcom, you rock!
I don't know if i'll buy this though...Should I put Wii Fit(I only need like $10) down or buy Okami?(Could always make the money and buy it later)
Luckily, next year i'll have a job so I won't have to patch Christmas & Birthday funds for titles later in the year.(I have enough for MK & only $10- $20 for Wii Fit)
Phil @ Apr 7th 2008 10:59PM
BUY OKAMI.
IT IS A VISUAL, MUSICAL, MYSTICAL MASTERPIECE.
Seriously, this game needs more money. Out of all the game that were poorly marketed, this is the worst marketed of all time and yet it's one of the most unique and innovative games in the past 3 years.
The gameplay, story, graphics and music are all freaking flawless. And with the main quest clocking in at 40 hours, you're getting bang for your buck.
I promise you will not be disappointed.
SoshiKitai @ Apr 7th 2008 11:30PM
Depends, Overlord... have you played Okami yet?
If so, it's fine to just go for Wii Fit as long as you buy Okami later. And that better be a promise.
If not... well, I gotta' say... Okami needs the support NOW.
Phil @ Apr 8th 2008 12:31AM
Seriously, it needs that support. Seeds (I.E. Clover Studios reborn) JUST got formed a few months ago and hasn't released any info of new work, other than Shinji Mikami confirming a month or two ago he's started a new project... Presumably NOT anything RE related.
An Okami spinoff, sequel OR prequel would be epic. It's true that everything for Okami in terms of prequel material might have already been told, but I'd like to play through the story and experience... Well, I'd prefer not to spoil anything.
SoshiKitai @ Apr 8th 2008 12:43AM
possibly "The Adventures of Issun" on DS?
:P My gf and I think that would be an awesome idea.
Phil @ Apr 8th 2008 1:10AM
Either something following Issun or... Perhaps Waka? *shrug*
I'd go into depth but again, spoilers. D:
samfish @ Apr 8th 2008 2:16AM
Unless you need to lose weight or want to get your girlfriend involved in games, buy Okami over Wii Fit! It's not better than Twilight Princess, as it has some fundamental gameplay flaws, but it was easily one of the best games of 2006 and it'll easily be one of the best games of 2008...especially on the Wii.
And as far as Okami spin offs and sequels go, I liked that 2D Okami concept art someone made a month or so ago.
SoshiKitai @ Apr 8th 2008 12:15PM
I think Viewtiful Joe MIGHT have a chance on the Wii... It doesn't need Wii-motion controls... I'd just like it continued. :D
But yeah, a God Hand would be totally AWESOME. Loved that game.
SoshiKitai @ Apr 8th 2008 1:34PM
oops, that one supposed to be for the above posts...
stupid @ Apr 7th 2008 10:30PM
well all us nintendowiifanboy users will be picking this up, but for regular wii users this could be a clever ad to get some interest in the game which is great i really hope this game makes it big, second time is the charm!
Mr.ESC @ Apr 7th 2008 10:36PM
Now that's sad :(
The thing with Okami is that it was released at the wrong time.Maybe today can make it.
ILPC @ Apr 7th 2008 10:57PM
already pre-ordered it to show my support! Can't let a good game die...
sixtyfps @ Apr 7th 2008 11:09PM
Looking at the review scores rolling in at gamerankings, it would appear that Nintendo (via Nintendo Power) has a little difficulty meting out praise for games that not only beat them at their own game, but make their output actually seem staid by comparison.
EGM: 91.7%
Play: 95%
Gamepro: 4.5/5
Nintendo Power: 75%
SoshiKitai @ Apr 7th 2008 11:40PM
:/ Anti-porters should shut their mouth right now. If any game deserves a second chance, it's Okami.
It truly is a gaming masterpiece.
Not a one-hit wonder... not a REALLY good game this year... not a HECK YES! game... not a DUDE, THIS GAME ROCKS game...
It literally is a masterpiece.
This isn't a hype. This isn't a ZOMG GET THIS GAME.
This is a GET THE GAME BECAUSE IT'S ONE OF THE FEW GAMES IN THIS WORLD THAT ACTUALLY DESERVES TO BE IN EVERYONE'S LIBRARIES.
...it's a MASTERPIECE.
...but because of when it came out, and because otakus were afraid of how bad it sold in Japan (stupid new generation kids hating things that are different and has historical storyline)... it never sold.
Get the d@mn game. I'm pissed off at most people for not getting it the first time... *sigh*
I'm tired of the "Hmmm... I dunno if I should get it..."...
BECAUSE LAST TIME I BEGGED YOU GUYS TO GET IT AND YOU SAID THAT, YOU NEVER GOT IT!!! YOU SPINELESS FREAKS!!! YOU KNOW YOU HAD THE MONEY!!! YOU KNOW YOU HAD TIME TO PLAY THE GAME!!! BUT YOU!!!! YOUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!! RAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!
...
get the game. Period.
Aaron @ Apr 8th 2008 1:07AM
I'm buying Okami on Wii.
Why?
Never played it on the PS2 and have heard EXCELLENT things about it. So Soshi? You're doing a good job :)
samfish @ Apr 8th 2008 2:05AM
If people don't buy this game, you're part of the problem!
Otherwise we're doomed to shovelware, minigames and games where the PSP or PS2 is the lead development platform.
Perverted @ Apr 8th 2008 2:10PM
The PS2 is/was the lead platform for Okami...it's still a PS2 port.....But there's differences between upgraded/enhanced ports and rubbish waggle ports....and just plain(apparently) awesome game ports.
DZounar @ Apr 8th 2008 8:24AM
Capcom, count on me to make this ad history!
It will be 'The best game you've ever played!'
Charles @ Apr 8th 2008 9:07AM
Picking this game up as close to launch date as possible!
Never had the PS2 and so I never played the PS2 version, but I always wanted to. Now I will finally own this game - The Wii is truly the greatest fun I've had with a gaming system in a long time!
Phil @ Apr 8th 2008 10:42AM
It's nice seeing people have faith in a game that they typically wouldn't. I guess hype is actually working this time, especially since it's a game that deserves it.
Unbreakable_idea @ Apr 8th 2008 11:40AM
Woah, easy everyone. How about we see whether or not the controls are broken before we decide this is a must purchase. I am very excited and looking forward to this game, and IF the controls are at least decent and the graphics look and run smooth, then it's a must buy. But, that's a big if on the Wii when we're talking about a PS2 port. Here's to hoping for the best, and not another lukewarm at best port like we normally get every month.
Phil @ Apr 8th 2008 4:27PM
I'm gonna go ahead and shoot down this comment with two simple facts:
The control scheme is almost PERFECT for the Wii and the fact that Ready at Dawn is the company porting it.
Ready at Dawn DOES have most of its experience with the PSP, but hasn't one the biggest factors of accesibility for the Wii been the freedom of control mapping and ease of creation? The game is already made, it was just a matter of re-coding and setting it up to work properly with the Wiimote.
Hell, they don't HAVE to make the wiimote be the control for the celestial brush, they can use the control stick if they want. But the whole point of it being on the Wii is for pointing and using the brush that way.
The only real way this can be a failure... Is if there's a lack of a sensitivity control under the configuration options.
Otherwise, the game itself will be just as good, if not better, than the PS2 version.
SoshiKitai @ Apr 8th 2008 6:45PM
Actually, if anything, Okami seemed like it was made for the DS...
...you know, a real "brush" STROKE...
But here's to hoping that the Wiimote's accurate! *cheers*
Michael K. @ Apr 8th 2008 11:53AM
I played okami on ps2 and it was boring
SoshiKitai @ Apr 8th 2008 12:14PM
Boo.
What did you expect? Blood and guts?
Or maybe rock music?
Mack2D2 @ Apr 8th 2008 12:31PM
I personally feel that it would sell better in the US with a different name... I can see a lot of people stirring away from asian sounding titles just because they think it will be some weird nonsense anime. We need to remember that the Wii's market is over run with simple minded fools that can play games like Mario Party 8 for hours on end and not be bored... while I know it's too late to do the name change, I think that simple detail is at least a small part of the reason for failed sales previously. I for one will be getting this, after I'm done getting raped by our pathetic government that rips off the middle class to give money to illegal immigrants for financial aid while I sit broke as a joke trying to get a decent education... in other words, once I'm done paying the government over 2000 bucks for taxes, I'll try to squeeze in a purchase of Okami and Mario Kart.
ArmiMaan @ Apr 8th 2008 12:30PM
I wonder if they'll re-issue the PS2 version as well. I don't have a Wii, but all this hype has made me very interested in the game.
jmf @ Apr 8th 2008 2:00PM
Is this a full-price game?
Candace Savino @ Apr 8th 2008 2:56PM
Nope, $39.99
Mr Khan @ Apr 8th 2008 2:34PM
lulz
Sadly Mario Kart Wii prevents me from getting this this month, but i'll be all over it come May
The games: There are too many of them
SoshiKitai @ Apr 8th 2008 2:48PM
But that's a good thing... right?
I mean, compared with the void that Wii had for a while.
Matthew @ Apr 13th 2008 10:25PM
Sorry, but....
"Even though the gem they published sold a lot less copies than it deserved to..."
It sold a lot FEWER copies. You could say that it made LESS money, though.
