Joystiq paints a grim picture of de Blob
THQ held a preview event for their 2008 games this week, and Joystiq's Zack Stern was on the scene to play all the offerings. Luckily for us, he checked out the demo for de Blob, one of the more interesting, original games on the Wii.Or, well, that's what we've gathered from reading previews of the game before tonight. Zack wasn't quite as enchanted with the real thing as we have been with videos.
"de Blob looks like a cuddly Wii game, but it didn't hook me like Katamari. I think certain Wii owners will enjoy it, but the novelty didn't last long on me." He does mention that two-player matches "add a little more depth." We're a bit disappointed, but still convinced that there's a high probability of awesomeness within de Blob.

Fuck Zack, his opinion is as important as a cows. I'd rather play this for myself then have some guy tell me how it is.

Hey, keep the swearing down.

Fine, but seriously this game is an original idea and the industry needs original games because people complain about so-called "sequelitis". Then when an original concept comes round they complain about it harder. That's why I'd rather play it myself and form my own opinion about it.

De Blob is certainly going to be a niche game (the Weather Channel music alone kind of guarantees that), so I think I'm going to wait till some actual reviews come in before getting worried.
I just hope this early negative coverage doesn't predispose future reviewers to write it off. It's certainly still possible the game could be bad, but I just think it's different.

I don't give a crap what he says. If you've ever played the original version, this one is so much more fleshed-out. The original was a blast, and I'm very much looking forward to this game!

Other sites have posted their impressions and it seems Joystiq is unusually negative in this case. Kohler said it feels like a triple-A game. So things aren't as bad as they first appeared.
