It's official: No paddle for Arkanoid and Space Invaders
Here's a depressing start to our day. Noting the awesome paddle controller's absence from the North American Space Invaders Extreme/Arkanoid DS press release, as well as its eventual absence from the European press release, Spencer Yip put the question to Square Enix directly. Their response was heart-rending."We are not bringing over the paddle controller for the NA version." What are we supposed to do now, play Arkanoid without a paddle controller? Arkanoid without its controller is -- well, it's Break 'em All, which already exists. We were thrilled when we found out SE was going to release these games, but our enthusiasm is tempered by the fact that they're only halfway releasing them. Oh, well, off we go to import a paddle.

Upon hearing this news, I basically lost my interest in Arkanoid.
However I'll still be getting Space Invaders Extreme.

Once more you guys are rocking the image editing.
Also, I'll bet it'd be pretty simple to build your own if you have even a tiny bit of electronics skill.

It might be simple to build a paddle, but the interface to the GBA slot is probably not quite so easy.
So I guess what I need to know now is whether the American and European versions of the games are going to actually be unable to use the paddle, in which case I'm going to import the games in addition to the paddle (hope there's not TOO much Japanese.) But regardless, play-asia here I come.

According to Spencer (the same guy whose blog they got this news from) the paddle functionality WILL NOT be removed from the NA and EU versions of the games.
So import away!

Well, that settles the debate in my mind. I'll be picking up space invaders for the psp. the demo is awesome, and the graphics are certainly better than the ds version. that's a shame that they couldn't bundle either of the games with the paddle and sell it for 30 bucks.

Go to that link, and you guys will be a bit happier

Uh wow, what a bunch of fucking morons. I'm glad I imported mine for less than $20 a long time ago.

I've been excited for this game since the first rumours of it coming out in Japan. I eagerly waited for it to be localised. And now this. This is such a disappointment. I mean, it loses what made it such an amazing idea for the ds. There's a chance that I'll import the paddle and still get the game, but with prices like the one sue linked to, it's not likely.

The real problem about the absence of the paddle controllor
NO USE OF THE PADDLE FOR DS RACING GAMES. OMG CAN YOU IMAGE HAVING THE PADDLE FOR RACING GAMES? NO MORE STYLUS STEERING WHEEL CONTROL!
