Nintendo sends out most self-congratulatory poll ever

Nintendo sent a survey out to registered owners of Super Smash Bros. Brawl asking "Assuming a reasonable price, how likely are you to purchase a sequel to Super Smash Bros. Brawl or ask for it as a gift?" Was Nintendo just looking for an ego boost? Or are they worried about some backlash? Maybe they just want some numbers that they can use to convince Masahiro Sakurai to make another Smash Bros. game.
We're going to go out on a limb here, but if there's anyone in the world interested in another Smash Bros. sequel, it's the people who not only purchased the last game, but spent time entering the product code into Nintendo's website for no reason.

For a second there I wished that the picture above was an actual screenshot. Now the real deal is not so exciting and I don't really know why Nintendo should have to do this. Brawl is flying off the shelves as far as I can tell and the Europe launch is not even close. Maybe because they got bored with the Franchise and want to change things up a little. If many current brawlers said they were all "meh" to the latest game maybe we would see SSB go into a different direction.
My experience with Nintendo on the other hand says: Never going to happen. That survey is just the polite Japanese way of telling yourself "I freaking rock!" (by effectively having other people tell you). I can't wait until I get to play SSBB. The release date over here is STILL "To be announced, 2008".

in another 7 years, yep!
Roto13 @ Apr 3rd 2008 10:16AM
It's just one of their standard survey questions, gawd. They do this for every big game.

Yeah, man...BRAWL the way home..........

It's gonna be hard to keep Sakurai there, he already has a tenuous enough relationship with Nintendo, and the whole reason he left was to avoid rampant sequel-itis, then he signs on for one of the biggest sequels of all time
Whatever happened, he has to be severely burnt out by now

Checking Wii Fanboy while you have friends over?
What we have here is a TRUE Wii fanboy.

If it had cool new stuff, like improve and more fun Subspace Emissary mode, and the ability to perform combo's moves, would be cool.

I hate to rain on everyones parade and Nintendo's ego boost, but I am in the minority b/c I don't like fighting games. I traded in my SSBB yesterday at the Gamestop here in town. Also, my neighbor did the same thing last week, b/c he said that there was just too much stuff to do in the game. I guess I am not a fighting game kind of person, or it is that my friends all moved away and I have no one to play the game with me.
Chris @ Apr 3rd 2008 3:11PM
Your friend traded in a game because there was "too much to do"? Doesn't it usually work the other way, you trade in a game right away because it is too short and has too little content?
fatherb @ Apr 3rd 2008 11:39AM
Am I the only one actually turned off by this games quality? I filled out the form honestly and have to say if the newer games follow suit in SSBB footsteps we might have alot of bricked Wiis on our hands. Is anyone comfortable with the disc read on these dual layer discs? The game plays fine but with the load times between everything and the arm of the read lens flinging back and forth so much I am really uncomfortable even playing the game anymore. I have played the game for a couple of weeks @ 49 hours and 50 minutes so it is not like I did not play the stinking game enough to have an adequate opinon. The good ol' days of Nintendo Quality seem to be getting farther and farther away for this player.
scs @ Apr 3rd 2008 2:20PM
If you play a game for 50 hours, you got your money's worth.
fatherb @ Apr 3rd 2008 5:39PM
I am not complaining of the fact it was not worth the cost but the quality of the experience could be improved and the quality of the disc read could have been ironed out. If you compare this game with say Metroid Prime 3 there is a huge difference in quality of graphics and disc read usage. To me SSBB seemed rushed onto disc.

It's not entering the code for "no reason".
When you enter enough product codes into nintendos website you get things, like issues of nintendo power.
Jean B @ Apr 5th 2008 8:21PM
Exactly, one would think it's a GOOD thing to have our favorite company interested in our opinions. Registering the code is a way to let them know they're being supported. I for one welcomed the survey and was glad to be able to provide my input. This article reads like a gossip blog "Was Nintendo just looking for an ego boost? Or are they worried about some backlash?". You're supposed to be fanboys here...
Mike @ Apr 3rd 2008 12:54PM
Hey now, entering in the product codes is not useless. Nintendo has given me a lot of free stuff! Heck, I was one of the people chosen to receive a free copy of Nintendogs before its release! Imagine my surprise the day I found that in the mailbox, priceless! Now if they sent me a free copy of Brawl before release, I'm certain I would have keeled over!
Jay @ Apr 3rd 2008 2:29PM
you sir are absolutly right. I have sitting in my drawer an awesome feather pen stylus from Phantom Houglass and a box set of rainbow styli from brain age 2.
I'm a sucker for free collectibles
