The DS Life: Nintendobama
The DS Life is a weekly feature in which we scour the known world for narrative images of Nintendo's handheld and handheld gamers. If you have a photo and a story to match it with, send both to thedslife at dsfanboy dot com.
As a rule, we don't trust any politicians, especially the ones we want to trust, so it's rare that you'll ever see us championing the merits of any particular presidential candidate. Besides, the electioneering scene just isn't something we want to be a part of, like the straight-edge scene or the liking-music-that-no-sensible-person-should-ever-enjoy scene. We're too laid back and cynical to involve ourselves in the passionate debates these conversations often require.
Still, when one gamer goes to the extreme to express his devotion towards his favored statesman by decorating a Nintendo DS Lite with the politician's face, we take notice ...
In case you're wondering how to decorate your own Crimson/Black DS with Illinois senator Barack Obama's gaze, Julius cut out the Shepard Fairey artwork from a Sticker Robot vinyl 4" x 6 sticker. How long will it be before someone carves Hillary Clinton's visage onto the back of a PSP? And can you imagine seeing someone with a John McCain-branded Game Boy Advance?

McCain should be on a Gameboy (huge, old ones).
I don't mean to insult the Gameboy, but they're "just as old".*
*In the Tech world, everything is obsolete in less than 6 months :P

It's nicely done, but I'm sorry. This is by far the STUPIDEST thing I've ever seen. You obviously have talent, so why waste it by putting THAT on your DS.
Reeve @ Apr 2nd 2008 4:30PM
What talent do you mean? It clearly says in the post that the gamer used a Shepard Fairey sticker.
AnOffday @ Apr 2nd 2008 4:44PM
Oh. Well then I guess it's the stupidest, and most talentless thing I've ever seen.
Blones @ Apr 2nd 2008 4:32PM
Should have been a Ron Paul DS.
Brittany @ Apr 2nd 2008 5:58PM
Agreed!
Damian G. @ Apr 2nd 2008 6:31PM
I don't believe that Ron Paul is authorised by the Constitution to appear on a DS.
Brittany @ Apr 3rd 2008 3:38AM
It's up for the states to decide on this one man!
Roman @ Apr 2nd 2008 4:42PM
Ironic - since Obana made that comment about how kids need to "stop playing Game Boy."

Jacksons @ Apr 2nd 2008 6:31PM
Haha no kidding. It's like having an Al Gore sticker on your Hummer.
Joshua @ Apr 2nd 2008 8:27PM
Oh come on, stop taking things out of context.
Roman @ Apr 3rd 2008 9:37AM
I thought the link I gave provided the context...
Anyway, I wasn't trying to make a statement about Obama, just point out the irony.
He's not the most anti-gaming of the candidates, if you ask me:

They are all going to say something negative about games before it's over though. They think it's what parents want to hear.
Roto13 @ Apr 2nd 2008 4:42PM
I want Ralph Nader WonderSwan!
Croove55 @ Apr 2nd 2008 4:44PM
THAT WAS MEAN.
The wonderswan was a perfectly passable system.
Croove55 @ Apr 2nd 2008 4:42PM
Okay, so let me get this straight.
Obama - DS Lite
Clinton - PSP
McCain- GBA
Edwards- Gameboy Micro
Romney- Game Gear
Paul- N-Gage
Nader- Virtual Boy
Washington- Game & Watch
Bush- Gizmondo
Okay, I feel like I was a bit tough on Bush, actually. Nader and Romney got what they deserved though.
Jose El Maton @ Apr 2nd 2008 7:23PM
Haha! Thanks, that gave me a laugh!
jsutcliffe @ Apr 2nd 2008 4:46PM
Good lord, Shephard Fairey must die. You can't go five minutes without coming across some of his stuff lately.
Mr Khan @ Apr 2nd 2008 4:51PM
A good job, but a bit premature. It would be a painful reminder to have that thing around if Clinton takes it with the superdelegates
Doubtful, at this point, however, Obama recovered from that Jeremiah Wright thing splendidly, and though he trails here in PA, he should still take it overall
manaman @ Apr 2nd 2008 5:08PM
Whatever your political persuasion or your opinion of stickers on DS's, you have to admit this one works quite well. The color scheme is nice and the crimson and red DS really makes the image pop.
David Hettmansperger @ Apr 2nd 2008 6:01PM
Nah, Hillary wouldn't be a PSP. She has nothing to offer but a flashback to the 90s so she would have to be an orginal GBA. McCain, meanwhile, wants us to live in an idealized version of 50s where there were no black people and no sex so I guess he would have to be a 78rpg Jukebox.
foosnark @ Apr 3rd 2008 11:11AM
Actually a "78rpg jukebox" would be awesome. Most jukeboxes can't play RPGs at all! ;)
Julius @ Apr 2nd 2008 6:47PM
That's my DS!
Jacksons @ Apr 2nd 2008 6:33PM
I hope that comes off easy in the event that he loses the election. Otherwise it'll be like those weirdos that still have Kerry bumper stickers on their cars. You know who you are.
omgitsalisa @ Apr 3rd 2008 12:23AM
Whatever, I dig it and wish I had my own Obama DS. But mine is already decorated with the signature of Samuel L. Jackson that I got at an event he was at supporting Obama. PS If Hillary Clinton wins the nomination, she will have done so against the will of the voters which is reprehensible.
Waffala @ Apr 3rd 2008 2:47AM
Someone should ask him to run for president. Your DS is ultimate win with that signature.
Alisha Karabinus @ Apr 3rd 2008 9:33PM
That would mean the best State of the Union addresses EVER.
James @ Apr 23rd 2008 8:36AM
Heh. "Hand me that 'football' over there. The one that says 'Bad Mother-Fucker' on it."
James @ Apr 23rd 2008 8:35AM
Dude has the Official Portable Console of Hope and Change. And... uh, not much else.
