Pachter says 3-4 million for Wii Fit in 2008
Apparently, there's a lot of folks out there looking to tone up their life with Wii Fit. That's what Michael Pachter thinks, as he predicts a whopping 3-4 million copies of Wii Fit being sold in this year alone. That's a $90 package that he expects between 3 and 4 million folks to buy. Wow.
"Wii Fit will sell 3 million to 4 million in the US if they market aggressively," Pachter said. Well, if Pachter read Wii Fanboy, he'd know that they are putting a lot into their marketing of the game. And, if Pachter's lack of reading game blogs are any indication, the man is woefully under-prepared to make any kind of prediction.

Not at $90 it won't. This is being marketed mostly to the casual market, whose most recent favs include Wii Sports (a "free" game) and Wii Play (a "$10" game). Even with the wireless board, what will be $100 after tax is pushing it. Granted, Guitar Hero and Rock Band sell at that or a higher price, but rocking out is a little different than exercising.
I say they hit a wall around the 1.5m-2m sales mark around the Holidays and have to drop to $69.99 to get them moving again.

I kind of agree with the first comment. Yes it is quite expensive for a casual gamer. The difference between this and a Rock Band or Guitar Hero is the mother factor. We have a Wii, I play just about everything that comes out, my oldest daughter plays Mario Party, My youngest daughter plays Cosmic Family and my wife doesn't really play at all, but when she does play she has fun. This game is primed for those mothers, and I know my wife, $90 is nothing to her, so I can see this getting that high in sales.

Ugh...I'm so tired of this game and the marketing hasn't even started yet.

Y'all underestimate the health craze the grips the nation. If people think it'll make 'em healthy, they'll buy it
Combine that with the Wii craze, you've got gold

Agreed. With all the stay-at-home suburban moms and nothing-to-do elders, this game will go beyond everyone else's expectations.
I guarantee it.

3 to 4 million actually sounds pretty do-able. It already sold over a million in Japan (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/01/wii-fit-1-in-japan-for-last-four-weeks/)
and it's still going strong in sales I believe. Add the buzz this thing is already getting, add one of the biggest marketing campagnes Nintendo has done so far and add a bit of word of mouth and I think 3 to 4 million isn't a hard goal to reach.

I play video games SPECIFICALLY not to do this kind of thing. I'm fat and stationary and by god if I had the ability to grow roots and just adhere myself to my couch, I'd friggin' do it. I'm not paying 90 dollars so my Wii can call me fat and bark orders at me, and I'd wager many a fat american agree with me. I predict a solid 1 to 1.5 million.
Yourself Fitness was the same thing and it didn't sell 4 million in a 5 month span. Hell it didn't sell 4k in 5 years.
SoshiKitai @ Apr 2nd 2008 3:18PM
But that didn't advertise well, and most people who were willing to excercise never owned a PS2 or Xbox, and most would never care to INSTALL something into a PC just for health.
You think the Wii can't sell WiiFit? Then you have no idea what the hell the Wii is.
Aaron @ Apr 2nd 2008 3:21PM
Well I've already got it reserved and purchased in full. So that's one sale down, only 2,999,999 to go.
Ryan Hartman @ Apr 2nd 2008 3:30PM
You have no idea what America is. America is morbid obesity and childhood diabetis. 90 bucks is like 4 months of a gym membership if people REALLY wanted to work out. Although it's hard to balance on that cute lil' board when you are missing your left foot.

Even adding the price of the wii, that's nothing on the price of proper excercise gear that thousands of people shell out for and none of that stuff is fun at the same time. I'm not a casual gamer but i could do with some excercise and as a UK gamer, i'm glad to say i've only 2 weeks to wait till it arrives at my door.
