Final Fantasy IV on the way to the U.S.

With good news, however, must come some bad: in an interview with Takashi Tokita, who directed the FFIV remake, the possibility of a remake of another of his well-known games is discussed:
"Chrono Trigger was a no-holds-barred, swashbuckling adventure that was a lot of fun to work on... If the demand is great enough, it's certainly possible. But as a creator, I feel the need to create new titles and not just series installments and remakes. I realize it's a little strange for me to be saying that in an interview about Final Fantasy IV (laughs). But I need to remind myself of that, too."

Damnit damnit damnit!
Don't get me all excited about a Chrono Trigger remake like that!

"If the demand is great enough, it's certainly possible..."
Let me introduce you to a friend of mine. His name is "The Whole Damn Internet Wants a Chrono Trigger Remake." You two should hang out sometime.

Um...yeah, that's nice. How about you go ahead and take care of Chrono Trigger on DS and then do whatever crap I probably WON'T buy?
That'd be great. :)

Ha ha ha- Well said!
HellsHammer @ Apr 5th 2008 7:50PM
Hah, yeah. I love that re-making more re-made ports of old FF games is the priority. Not the thousands of people asking for Chrono, Secret of Mana, or Mario RPG.
And "IF there is a demand"?!...IF?
If you can't listen to what fans want, leave me alone unless you re-make FF6.
Dragoon @ Mar 31st 2008 7:14PM
Good. Original games are better. Let us all stop living in the past and play all the shitty 3-d games in the present/future.
Gewurztraminer (needs more umlaut) @ Mar 31st 2008 7:30PM
As someone who has never played FFIV I'm quite looking forward to a redone version, thanks.
mathab @ Mar 31st 2008 7:23PM
mmm FF4. D'lish.
hvnlysoldr @ Mar 31st 2008 7:23PM
Crosses fingers it's not a April Fools.
Gewurztraminer (needs more umlaut) @ Mar 31st 2008 7:31PM
aw crap.
mian @ Apr 1st 2008 8:20AM
I'm pretty much assuming everything I saw yesterday and will see today and tomorrow is a prank. Safer that way.
XDragon @ Mar 31st 2008 7:25PM
FF IV Awesome
Chrono Trigger Even Better
Also needed is FF VI and the 3 best RPGs ever will be remade into DS games!
Hey Sega...how about a Phantasy Star 1 and 4 remake; its working for Square-Enix!
Puddles @ Mar 31st 2008 7:52PM
Why is everyone so excited about remakes? Just play the original if you love it so much. The original Chrono Trigger is just fine as it is.
Brent @ Mar 31st 2008 9:24PM
Chrono Trigger on the DS is even better. I don't have an SNES, and don't want to spend anymore time in front of my computer than I do at work.
I want hand-held Chrono Trigger, and I want it NOW! :)
xeleion @ Mar 31st 2008 9:28PM
It is, but not everyone has an SNES/PSX/PS2, it's not on Virtual Console, and their morality won't allow them to download an emulator.
RosuNamikaze @ Mar 31st 2008 8:07PM
i would quite like to see something of the stature of these remakes with a completely original story..
Mad Martin Kinderhook @ Mar 31st 2008 8:19PM
The truly huge news on that cover is the appearance of Trauma Center: Under the Knife 2. It had BETTER be back on DS.
I should also mention that if anyone is interested in playing FFIV and Chrono Trigger and not necessarily an improved re-make of either, Amazon has the Final Fantasy Chronicles bundle for PS1 for $16. And that's sealed, not used, to boot--just expect a greatest hits copy.
Mad Martin Kinderhook @ Mar 31st 2008 8:25PM
Eh heh, don't mind that first part. Looks like our friendly DS Fanboy writers were typing up the article confirming Under the Knife 2 being on the DS and not the Wii as I wrote this.
So anyway, I'm happy for everyone who's looking forward to the FFIV re-make. I still haven't played my GBA copy, so I think I'll be sticking with it for the time being.
KanoBlade @ Mar 31st 2008 8:38PM
Thank You Square-Enix!
Please bring more of your excellent games to NA!
LeChuck @ Mar 31st 2008 8:57PM
IF the demad is great enough? Where have they been? The two games with the most demand for a remake (CT and FF7) seem to be the only ones they're not doing. At least FF7 is getting spinoff games, where's the Compilation of Chrono Trigger?
xeleion @ Mar 31st 2008 9:42PM
Not even mentioning the two major fan remakes of CT that Squeenix shut down with a cease-and-desist order. CT better be remade before I have to see another crappy FFVII based game, or someone's gonna get it.
Brent @ Mar 31st 2008 9:27PM
If and when Chrono Trigger DS is released, I'll buy two copies and another DS just to say thanks.
Alex @ Apr 1st 2008 4:00AM
Remaking final fantasy IV made sense. A lot of people don't play square's first really great story based game because the graphics are dated and the writing comes from an era when standards were lower in many ways. Apparently the new game even has more plot and side story than the original, because square had to cut a lot out of the over-ambitious original game concept!
Remaking Chrono Trigger only makes sense so that people can buy it again, and play it on a hand held system. If I were remaking chrono trigger, I'd hate to do it on the DS in simplified 3d, and I'm not sure I'd want to do it in sleek looking high res 3d either. It probably would lose the totally unique art style of the original game. . . maybe a cel shaded game would work? Also, the music would never be as full sounding on the DS as it is on the SNES or on an emulator. I would definitely buy it, however. Especially if they added a few more side stories and quests.
Suichimo @ Apr 1st 2008 10:50AM
At least we now have virtual confirmation that we will be getting it rather than just sitting in the dark.
One of the things I'm most interested in for this, despite it being FFIV and as far as I'm concerned the best FF out, is the Decant abilities. It will be weird to see Kain and Cecil using Twin Magic, now if only you had Tellah and Fu So Ya at the same time.
Suichimo @ Apr 1st 2008 12:33PM
I just noticed another title from Square Enix on there as well, "The World Ends With You". What information does NP have on that?
nightwing59 @ Apr 1st 2008 5:30PM
Well 2 of the 3 games i expected this year from square-enix (FF4 and FFTA2) are going to be released in NA now if only DQ4 is translated it will make my year
as for CT Cell shaded like the DBZ and DQ8 is the way to apreciate toriyama designs
Gewurztraminer (needs more umlaut) @ Apr 1st 2008 2:32PM
I would love to see Chrono Trigger with DQ8 graphics. In fact, when I finished DQ8 I felt compelled to replay CT and promptly did so.
nightwing59 @ Apr 1st 2008 5:47PM
after DQ8 and DBZ games and for even better example DQ Monsters Joker it's way posible to make a CT for DS
magusat999 @ Apr 22nd 2008 6:07PM
We have been asking this for years - where have YOU been? We were asking for a sequel the year after Chrono Trigger came out. We have been asking for a TRUE sequel EVER SINCE - where have you been that you don't know that Mr. Tokita! Chrono Trigger buyers FINANCED years of Fial Fantasy games (including FFVII), because your game, which ripped off gamers at $80.00 a pop, even way back then, sold more copies than all of the Final Fantasy libraries combined - including FFIII! What does it take for you to know that not only do we want a remake - but we want new titles in the series as well, just like you have been doing with Final Fantasy - without the screw-ups. And NO - Chrono Cross does not count, as we all know that was a rippoff of some Rascal something or other game - and not a true sequel of Chrono Trigger (it didn't even play like Chrono Trigger).
Cmon Takashi Tokita - wake up and stop pretending you don't know what's going on. Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy III, V and VII are all games we would like to see more of - spinoffs, sequels, remakes (not movies and games of other genres - PARTY BASED RPGS JUST LIKE THEY WERE - and not ONLINE EITHER - and not all stuck on the small screen, give us fully produced console versions!). you do that and see just how profitable it can be. Make another FFX-2 type game and see how fast we close our wallets to you.
Jason @ Apr 29th 2008 11:07AM
I, for one, cannot wait until this game comes out. I've been saying it since I first caught wind of it. I hope to the higher powers that they continue this trend with FFVI. For me FFIV was the first RPG I ever played and it has an incredibly emence story for a SNES game. Think of how long it took you to beat that game when it first came out. Of course I was 10 when it came out but still. FFVI is another fairly long game with so much happening. I liked Chrono Trigger but I think a FFVI remake would be more advantageous then a CT remake...at least I'd like to see FFVI being remade first.
