VC Friday: Commodore 64 hits the ground running

Ladies and gents, let's make some noise for the latest addition to the PAL European (sorry, Aussies) Virtual Console, the Commodore 64. Woo!

Yep, after what feels like an eternity, the fondly remembered platform has made its Virtual Console debut with two of the strongest titles from its vast library: International Karate and Uridium. Both are comfortably worth the entrance fee of 500 Wii points, and begin to look like an even more obscene bargain when you consider this week's other addition: Midway's totally mediocre Cruis'n USA. When does Commodore 64 come to the US Virtual Console?!?! Inquiring minds want to know!

its being overseed by Commodore Gaming, which sells Commodore branded gaming computers in Europe. they have expressed that they would want to sell in the US as well (and frankly, i would totally buy a Commodore branded machine), but they aren't yet established here, so I don't think we'll get Commodore in US Virtual Console until Commodore Gaming establishes business here

Considering Midway's most recent Cruisn', Cruisn' 64 (C64?!?!? on Commodore 64 Week?) deserves a little more love.

Pay $30 for retail, or get the same experience for $10 on the VC.

I have a lot of memories of Cruisin' USA. None of them are good. Its over-the-top accident animations to its downright horrendous soundtrack are engraved into my mind. For some reason I still played it in between bouts of Mario Kart 64 and Diddy Kong Racing.

I mean, considering I have a Snes Street Fighter II on there, is it really worth having IK on the same system?

Can Australia/NZ get at the games using the old country change trick, like when the TurboGrafx games weren't available over there?

that video is of IK+ (International Karate +) and not International Karate. So dont get upset if you buy the game and expect dodging balls (instead you get to crush bricks with your head).

International Karate is a must game for me. although it's probably just good with a TAC-2.
