ESRB reveals pair of new Wii games in the works
While cruising the beat over at the ESRB website, we found a pair of different titles, new titles, show up under the listing for the Wii. They're from two big development houses, Ubisoft and Konami, and are called Protothea and Critter Round-Up, respectively.
Other than that, we really don't have much to go on. You can see the described content in each game above, but it's clearly not enough for us. We know we'll be rounding up critters in Protothea, but what about that Critter Round-Up game?

Despite it's name, Critter Round Up promises to be the most gory, violent FPS game ever made.
Trust me. I have inside sources. You can take this one to the bank!

And that's why it has an E rating? The anti-JT must be working in ESRB, violent games for everyone!

Actually, Critter Round-Up is the equivalent of Animal Panic for WiiWare in Japan...but hell knows what that Ubi one is...
Croove55 @ Mar 28th 2008 3:34PM
Wait, I think you got your titles kinda backwards in your last sentence...
Croove55 @ Mar 28th 2008 3:36PM
Oh hell I'm incredibly stupid today.

I know, we're not really known for our joke-making ability here at Wii Fanboy. :)

Great, just what us Wii owners need...more E games.

Because an M rating instantly makes it good.

E ratings, despite being for, y'know, EVERYBODY are actually kids' games in disguise and thus cannot possibly satisfy the gaming needs of adults such as myself.
...
*plays s'more Fire Emblem*

"Because an M rating instantly makes it good."
I neither said nor implied that.
You're both taking things too literal and thus missed my point entirely (Is *everyone* on the internet afflicted with Asperger's?).
Yes, *some* E games really are "Everyone". No shit. Hell, I have Excite Truck and Zack & Wiki. Although, Zack & Wiki would have been better if it weren't so damn sugar-coated (And for fuck's sake that does *NOT* mean "It needs gore and sex"). But the majority? Yes, the majority of E game are in fact children's shovelware. And yes, most T and M games are shovelware too, but let's face it, there's so much kiddie-themed crap on the Wii (in between the few good games) that trading in some of it for a few T or M turds would still be an improvement (Even if just to balance it out).

Protothea is a port of an Argentinan game released some years ago on PC, made by the same guys who made Mazes of Fate.

I have a hard time believing that that particular Protothea would get anything but a T. 'Course, with a name like that, it's also unlikely another game would have the same name. Either way, something doesn't smell quite right.

Critter Round-Up AKA Saku Saku Animal Panic ;)
Sean jdahsdka @ Mar 28th 2008 6:27PM
Maybe Protothea is an RPG or an adventure game? I'm just guessing 'cause it has "fantasy violence"...

Abscissa, I have to respectfully disagree with what seems to be a resentment of Nintendo being a child friendly system. I think it's great that the Wii has so many family friendly titles, it's a shame that is not the case with the 360 or the PS3. I grew up playing various Nintendo consoles, my seventeen year old nephew grew up playing on various Nintendo consoles and now my ten year old nephews have the same opportunity. If you want more adult themed games, play the PS3 or the Xbox 360 (like I do when I'm in the mood for darker fare), which are sadly almost bereft of family friendly games. Personally, I would be p*ssed if Nintendo started mainly releasing "M" rated games...they're the last bastion of wholesome gaming, staying true to the feel and form of the video games we fell in love with at the dawning of their reign.
