Wii Warm Up: Reppin' the set
For us, there are certain stages in Smash Bros. Brawl that, should we lose, we'd feel absolutely horrible about. There are certain stages that we just feel to be our favorite, as we feel our skills on these stages are unmatched or our luck is just too good. As of right now, we'd have to say our favorite stage is the new WarioWare-themed one.
How about you all? Favorite stage? Is it a Melee one, or a Brawl one? Or, is it one you designed yourself? Which set are you representing on?

I like the Animal Crossing stage. It's simple and it's not Final Destination (which is also too small). I wish they'd have let us play on that first stage where Mario and Kirby fight in SSE, too.
I've also made a few big stages that I prefer to play on more than anything else, though.
ChaOS @ Mar 18th 2008 9:29AM
I re-created the pit from the original mortal kombat. For playability I added an elevator here and there, and 2 platforms above the actual starting platform.
My buddies have all played on it and keep telling me to send it in to Nintendo because it is such a good simple level. I really like it, so I probably will take their advice and submit it.
THRILLHO @ Mar 18th 2008 9:36AM
can you send me the stage, i'd like to try it
my email is garbagedick at gmail dot com
ChaOS @ Mar 18th 2008 9:38AM
sure, how can I extract it from my Wii?
THRILLHO @ Mar 18th 2008 9:41AM
email me and ill tell you how to send it to me, so we dont clog the post
Mrblonde @ Mar 18th 2008 1:15PM
Send it to IGN.com. Send it here: http://supersmashbros.ign.com/
THRILLHO @ Mar 18th 2008 9:31AM
my favorite stage has to be pictochat, because the pictures are fairly random and fun. i also like trying out the stages you get from nintendo everyday. the ones i really like i try to save a video of me playing on, so i can re-make them when they go away.
buckyboy28 @ Mar 18th 2008 6:54PM
I have to agree with you. I like what Nintendo did by mixing up the stages a little and make it so the game doesn't have to be represented by characters to have a stage (Animal Crossing, Pictochat)
Nerdz @ Mar 18th 2008 9:38AM
Maybe those who have build really good stage should post pic of them... or even a stage contest?
Don Day @ Mar 18th 2008 9:36AM
I forget the name, but I really enjoy the Twilight Princess inspired stage. Simple, the occasional razorback hazard, and large enough that it doesn't feel cramped. My second favorite is either the WarioWare stage or Picotochat, because it's so frigging random.
JustAn0th3rFace @ Mar 18th 2008 10:48AM
Overall, i am extremely happy with the stages of Brawl.
I would have to say my top three are Lylat Cruise, Shadow Moses, and Pictochat.
worm @ Mar 18th 2008 10:40AM
You've got to be kidding me that you think WarioWare is a good stage. You must like to fight the stage rather than the other people.
I think my fav new stage is Castle Siege, although that'll probably change as time goes on.
David Hinkle @ Mar 18th 2008 11:16AM
Dude, the music, the charm, everything about that stage just feels right to me. And you don't have to follow the directions the stage gives you. Just, if you do and succeed, you'll get a nice bonus in the form of a mushroom.
*shrug*
Sonic_13 @ Mar 18th 2008 12:13PM
I love the Super Mario Bros. stage. By the end of the match, fights on that stage usually turn from regular brawls to koopa-shell, crab throwing brawls. So much fun!
Matt @ Mar 18th 2008 12:35PM
Favorite? My created stage. It 's a 2-tiered stage with falling blocks on the top level that land on spikes, with ice platforms to save you and slopes on either side to help get back to the top. The bottom is a good place if you've got high damage since it's harder to get knocked straight up, but the top is great for more open space. So it's a relatively dynamic level. And the bottom part used to be too crowded but we opened it up a bit more and it's pretty fun right now.
As for stages that are included...hmm, that's tough. WarioWare is a fun stage (which I only just realized I've only played about twice since I usually put it on random and it never comes up) but I'd say...I have to go with Bridge of Eldin. There's plenty of space to fight, and when the bridge is taken out faster characters lose the big advantage they'd have in so much space. And I tend to be a fan of the simpler stages personally, anyway so that helps...
Jeremy @ Mar 18th 2008 12:50PM
I would have to say my favorite is the smashville stage. I also have to mention that when you unlock flat zone 2 it can make for some interesting fights. My least favorite is 75M.
holmes @ Mar 18th 2008 1:00PM
since i'm a fan of so many stages, i'll tell you what i'm NOT a fan of instead, and those are the ones with auto-scrolling built in. the rainbow cruise, the jungle one where you have to keep climbing higher, the sandy looking super mario stage. i like a stationary stage with some interaction with the background built in. what i can't stand is being forced to constantly make sure i'm not left behind because of a scrolling screen.
Webslinger @ Mar 18th 2008 1:02PM
the mariokart stage is my fav hands down
Mr Khan @ Mar 18th 2008 1:33PM
Hanenbow, the electroplankton stage
I never thought that Smash Bros could be a soothing game, but the therapeutic methods of Hanenbow make it such. Electroplankton's influence is strong, hell, it makes me want to buy that game
Dustin @ Mar 18th 2008 1:56PM
I like the Yoshi's Island stage, it's simple and biggish. I also like the Animal Crossing stage, the Twilight Princess stage, and Tetra's Ship from Windwaker.
I really hate 75m and New Pork City. They are too big and it's hard to tell what's happening.
Mr Khan @ Mar 18th 2008 4:50PM
New Pork City bugs me too. Its big like Hyrule Temple, and i didn't like that stage, but its a lot harder to navigate than Temple. Like in Classic Mode, when i must fight there, the CPU just runs, and it takes forever to finish a match
SoshiKitai @ Mar 18th 2008 2:38PM
I have to say my favorite stages ae my created stages.
Though I've grown quite accustomed to Smashville, seeing that my gf constantly begs me to play on that stage. And it's not too bad of a stage since it isn't too small.
But again, my favorite ones are my created stages... of which I can't describe because I tend to forget what they look like. And I don't like putting up my stages online, because I don't like it when people steal my work. >:( Ask for it nicely, an' you'll get it...
I have 34 stages right now, but I think I only favor half of 'em.
TheOverlord#2 @ Mar 18th 2008 3:19PM
Whoo, David! I love the WarioWare, Inc. music! Get on Wi-Fi more!! xP
Anyways, my picks:
Top:
1. Pirate Ship
2. WarioWare
3. Green Hill Zone
Bottom:
1. Norfair
2. Rumble Falls
3. Luigi's Mansion
Also agree with Dustin, the stages that are huge...but platforms are tiny...I dislike.
Chazz @ Mar 18th 2008 3:35PM
I loathe the metroid stage from melee and the new metroid stage with lava. I've hated that type of stage since the original smash bros.
My favorite stages would have to be Smashville, Mario Kart, The Delfino Island one, and Distant Planet.
Tom @ Mar 18th 2008 3:40PM
Well, I like a lot of the stages, but I don't like Rainbow Cruise and the Donkey Kong one where you have to keep on moving. I do like the Mushroomy Kingdom, just because I use cpat. Falcon, and one good FALCON PAAAUNCH!!! will screw over anyone really. I like my custom stages the most though. And how do you get Ninty to send you ones they pick, and how do you give them yours? I haven't seen the option anywhere. Thanks!
jason @ Mar 18th 2008 4:25PM
To get nintendo to send them to you, log onto Wi-Fi, press Options, and choose to accept the Smash Service. To submit them, highlight your created stage on the stage creation screen and press Submit.
Perverted @ Mar 18th 2008 4:46PM
Unfortunately I'm on of those final destination players....Mainly because I have 0 luck...
Although when online I've found the pokemon(space) level to be good...
Mr Khan @ Mar 18th 2008 4:52PM
While we're on this, I hate Spear Pillar, but only when i'm playing there against the computer. The computer, of course, can perfectly adapt to inverted controls (when Palkia flips the stage or inverts controls), so it leaves even low-level CPU with a great advantage at that point
I mean, i flip the nunchuk upside down to counter that, but it still bugs me
Drahken @ Mar 18th 2008 5:37PM
My favorites are Pirate Ship and Shadow Moses. Even when it's just a stage in Brawl, Wind Waker still manages to ooze character and atmosphere. When you get blown upward into the sky, above the clouds, I don't know, there's just something so amazing about it to me. And as for Shadow Moses, I just really like it for some reason. I guess not the least of which is when the Metal Gears show up. Do they actually do anything beyond look pretty? I could swear once or twice I thought I saw one try to fire off a laser or some missiles, but I'm almost certainly wrong. And I guess I like the breakable walls and the fact that you need to focus a little effort on unless you are the king of straight upwards smashing. I guess I also have kind of a soft spot for Distant Planet. It has a simple, yet elegant design that isn't the standard Battlefield "three friggin' platforms arranged in a triangle" format that's so overly prevalent. The rushing rain water is a nice mechanic and the Bulborb with is humorous visgae and warbling call, plus the fact that he can eat you is always endearing.
As for the ones I dislike the most: I can't stand Rumble Falls, 75m, Mario Bros., or New Pork City. Rumble Falls is a scrolling level (and an especially irritating and shitey one at that. damn you, instant-kill thorns!), enough said. With Mario Bros., there ends up being so many damn turtles and crabs about that it's all I can do to just dodge THEM. Plus, they can loop around the screen, but you can't. Plus (again), the platforms are so narrow, most aerial moves are useless and alot of larger characters can barely even fit much less maneuver. 75m has similar problems. Plus (yet again), it's just too busy. I hated those goddamn jacks when I had to get past them in the arcade game in Donkey Kong 64, I hate them now. As for New Pork City, I know the popular consensus is that it's too big and alot of people hate big levels. I agree that NPC is far too big, but I'm not one of the big haters. In fact, Hyrule temple was my favorite Melee level (so I guess that's another to add to my favorite list). But NPC is, like, twice as big and five times as empty. Hyrule was well setup. NPC is a mess of random tiny platforms that, when zoomed out even half way, are indistinguishable from the damn background. For being such a large stage, it's got less actual platform then alot of the smaller ones. And you have that stupid limo fly slowly by. Why can you stand on it when it's at the bottom fly by, but not when it's up near the top? Then you've got the Ultimate Chimera. He rarely shows up, and when he does he's confined to a small area, which doesn't really matter because he's so damn slow and doesn't do anything even if you go up to him and insert yourself into his mouth. Why bother with putting him in if he doesn't do shite?
That being said, I have a couple other comments. What is the deal with Metroid levels? There have been five Metroid levels in the Smash games, and three of them are nigh identical. What is their damn obsession with rising lava levels? I am a die-hard Metroid fan and I think it's terrible that they can't think of something more creative to do with the series. They brought back Norfair from Melee. WHY? It's so bland (and it's another damn triangle level), and you already have a new Norfair that's basically the same with some new additions. If they had to bring one back, why not Brinstar Depths? That was a unique level. There is literally not one other level that is even close to similar in design. Then you have the Frigate Orpheon, the only other non-"rising lava gonna come up 'n' git you" level. How boring. Two platforms and it does that stupid, weird flip every so often. The there's the Glacier level. It isn't one I particularly like or dislike, but there's that damn fish. Ever time I go anywhere even remotely near that water that friggin' fish jumps up and eats me. It fills me with a bizzare mix of anger and joy. On the one hand, I've lost another life and I shout, "Aww, that f***in' fish!" (What's the line on profanity 'round these parts? I don't want to get modded.) But on the other hand, I so much as look at that water funny and the fish appears as if from nowhere, in my head it viscously spouts a line from Team America ("Surprise, cockfag!") and I get gulped down. And it is hilarious.
Drahken @ Mar 18th 2008 5:37PM
Jesus, was that a long post. Sorry about that, folks.
michael @ Mar 18th 2008 6:10PM
i enjoy the Pirate ship, as well as the Ice Climbers stage. I'm also a fan of new pork city, but havent played on 75m yet. The Temple still remains my favorite stage (as it was in Melee). I havent really gotten in to the stage builder yet. I tried, but just didnt like the lack of options. Maybe once I open more packs it'll be better.
Corneria was great in Melee, but they shrunk it in Brawl, whether on purpose or not, i don't know. it just feel tiny now. hate that. Also not a fan of distant planet. Something about the layout bugs me, and I feel so forced to only fight on one section of the stage.
Finch @ Mar 19th 2008 11:41PM
I'm a big fan of PictoChat, and Pokémon Stadium 2 and Pirate ship aren't bad, either. One thing that bugs me about Brawl is the fact that the stages don't seem well-distributed. The Starfox franchise contributed three characters (albeit three similar ones), and has one new stage and one old stage. Metroid? One-point-five characters and three stages (two new, one old). I especially found this disappointing because Lylat Cruise is gorgeous, and I was looking forward to another stage in the same style.
ryan @ Mar 18th 2008 6:54PM
Surely you're not advocating more Star Fox influence? Because the only way that could happen is if the game were named Super Star Fox Brawl. Stupid clones.
/headdesk
Finch @ Mar 20th 2008 12:27AM
It doesn't necessarily need more Starfox. It's just that there's an imbalance. If there were less characters (which is definitely feasible), a new stage and an old stage would be fitting. But three characters and about a dozen songs seems like overkill for just Lylat Cruise and Corneria.
I guess what I'm saying is, more Starfox or less, keep it even.
Gun Barrier @ Mar 18th 2008 9:12PM
my favorite stage is Spear tower and Pokemon Stadium 2!
I hate New pork city and Castle Siege.
(well the separate stages are nice, but i hate it when you see a grey screen to switch scenes in that stage. It should have just been a big scenic fall.)
DBuck_Eye @ Mar 18th 2008 9:29PM
I made a smaller stage that just screams suicide. I'll play it with a few computers and within 10 seconds, at least 1 will have already died. It's pretty beast.

I hate all the auto scrolling ones + Luigi's Mansion...I like Luigi...hate the stage that comes with him!!! Bad music, unsatisfying environment...and just boring fights
ArmorForVictor @ Mar 19th 2008 5:11PM
as of now it's a tie between the warioware stage and skyworld. i just love the kid icarus music on skyworld and i prefer medium stages instead of the small and large
lukeR @ Mar 19th 2008 8:31PM
Hm,my favorites right now have to be lylat cruise, animal crossing(love how it uses the internal clock, plus i can't get tom nook's song out of my head btw), and delfino.
I HATE HATE 75m. Its a good nostalgia stage, but like someone else said its just too busy.Plus it basically forces you not to play on the top platform because you got donkey and that jack frequently killing you especially when your trying to grab the smash ball and it gets really frustrating. I like skyworld sometimes, but the destructable/regenerating platforms sometimes screws your recovery.
Sabastian Chadwick McGirt @ Mar 20th 2008 5:42PM
Hyrule Temple was my fav. stage from Melee, and it's still the one I prefer to play on over all the Brawl Stages.
My favorite new stages though are Frigate Orpheon, 75m, Bridge of Eldin, Smashville, Shadow Moses, Halberd, and WarioWare for randomness.
RT @ Mar 21st 2008 3:23AM
My favorite is also one i made; it's a small stage with a lower level that consists of two small blocks, two small springs, and two small blocks, in that order. A small windmill is above that row and centered on the stage. along side the windmill and directly above the blocks are three two-space platforms per side. The result is a small yet spacious level with a lot of platforms, so it's suitable for 4 person brawls; a lot of aerial attacks, because of the springs and the number of platforms; an easy way to evade, regroup, and counter attack by using the springs; and a lot of deaths because it's a small stage: if you have 100% damage, you'd better watch out. It's a lot of fun.
As for the included stages, I always enjoy fighting on Lylat Cruise, Smashville, Great Sea (or whatever the Wind Waker stage is called; great music, by the way), Bridge of Eldin (even better music), Battle field, Final Destination, Castle Siege, Corneria, Yoshi's Island (both of them), the Pokemon Stadia, Green Greens, and Battleship Halbeard. The ones I HATE are Norfair (stupid rising lava, even stupider 'safety cell, or whatever it's called), Rumble Falls (it's bad enough it's scrolling, but those bumpers are the worst) Distant Planet (it's hard to see, sometimes) and, surprisingly enough, Green Hill Zone, because the bowl is just awkwardly shaped and that balloon is irritating.
Ubermudkip @ Mar 25th 2008 3:07AM
My favorites are Spear Pillar, Warioware, and Lylat Cruise.
I'm quite dissappointed with New Pork City. I love Earthbound, too. I wish Sakurai spent more time on the Earthbound elements of the game than just Kirby and Mario (and to an extent, Pokemon), and put a bit more effort into New Pork City, and make it a little less mind-warping to get to the different parts of the stage.
Also, I really hate that Donkey Kong jungle thing. Really, really hate.
