The DS Lite gets repeatedly busted for 'science'
Well, maybe about 40% science and 60% "haha, awesome." A new website called Broken Review puts electronics through a battery of tests (or, rather, the tests are battery) to determine their durability. The first item they experiment on? A poor DS Lite. In the beginning, the tests are simple, everyday situations: how scratched does a DS Lite get in a pants pocket with keys? But in subsequent tests, the DS is beaten, scratched, run over, submerged, and dropped from increasing distances -- on video! It survives for much longer than we expected! This could be very useful if you're planning to throw your DS out a window.

people have too much money and nothing to spent it on ,
so they use it to torture poor electronics.
dumb,seriously.
brokenreview @ Mar 18th 2008 7:04PM
I don't think its dumb. It's more scientific than every other video like it we're not just throwing things against the wall to break them, well i mean we are, but first we are doing practical tests and seeing how much the DS lite can take, which for some people is useful information. Plus, like it or not, people like to watch things being destroyed. More so if they're expensive. Look at the most popular iphone review - it's definitely pc worlds one where they smash the screen on it.
It's giving people what they want!

thats just stupid... why in your right mind would you even think about doing something like this?
Cheese Muffin @ Mar 18th 2008 3:18PM
If they get to the PSP tests they wanted to do... I can see it being used as flame war fodder if one handheld outlasts the other.

Oh my God! They killed DS Lite!!! Those bastards! Why did they destroy such an awesome system?! And they only gave it a 77% after they acknowledged that it was never designed for that stuff! The fools!
Still, it's nice to know that my DS could have a chance of surviving falling out of my pockets or stuff like that.
brokenreview @ Mar 18th 2008 7:03PM
you're right, i think 77 is too low too. I've revised the score and added 10, i'll continue this in future for products which haven't been built to take that kind of punishment.
Thanks and feel free to contact me with any suggestions.

mine fell out of my pocket about two and a half maybe three feet to a carpet floor and broke of the part where the sleep mode and on light are. weak? but still single handedly an awesomely handy handheld.

It always amazes me how resilient Nintendo products are. I remember a video I saw where a Gamecube survived being wailed on by a sledgehammer.

That's upsetting, and yet somehow awesome. At least I don't have to worry about throwing my DSL in my purse any more! My iPod, on the other hand...

Good to see the Lite stands up to Nintendo's near-indestructible standards. If that power slider was still a power button, I swear the DS would have still worked after the drop.
But, good to know nothing shy of a second story drop will kill your DS.

Needs more "Will it blend".
brokenreview @ Mar 18th 2008 7:07PM
Haha, will take it into consideration.
Jacksons @ Mar 18th 2008 9:07PM
Alright, so I should not drop it out of a multi story house. I'll keep that in mind!

"Well, maybe about 40% science and 60% "haha, awesome.""
Thats the same equation they use for the Mythbusters.
Is this as good as the Mythbusters?
MagNet @ Mar 20th 2008 7:34PM
Yeah the DSL sure can take a beating.
But obviously not the ones I own, one gets dropped on a carpet, and by some bad luck the poweron switch breaks, then after some time I get some replacement and guess what after a short time the hinge breaks :/
Black DSL heh.

I saw the Game Boy that survived Gulf War bombing. It was so cool in that slag ridden way.
