No online in Sega Superstar Tennis Wii because of 'time constraints'
As huge fans of Nintendo, we often find ourselves being their harshest critics. One of the problems we've always had with the company was its lack of devotion to a competitive online arena, where gamers could do comparable things online with their Wii that the Xbox 360 and PS3 can do.
Why do we bring all of this up? Well, the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game will have the online play and it's missing from Nintendo platforms because of "time and development resource constraints." We just wonder what kind of constraints would allow them to include it into the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions and not in the Wii version? Hey, we're willing to wait a little longer so long as what we're getting is a complete product and not the table scraps left from the other versions of Sega Superstars Tennis. Sure, we get the best control method (presumably), but is it worth it?
Regardless, we're still excited for the game. We just wish we could enjoy the game with you.

Would I be willing to wait online? Yes, yes I would. To make up for it, this game better be phen-freakin'-nominal. Like, I should play this game with the Wii control scheme and not ever want to play real tennis. If this is not the case, then Sega Presents: Sonic n' Friends Tennis will fail in my book.

i really don't even care about online play, but this is getting ridiculous. is it that much harder to do online for the wii?

Finally, a game I won't be spending money on. My wallet can use a well deserved break.

We get the weakest graphics....a toss of the coin for best controls(some devs make them work great others.....not so much) and we get no online? no excuses...they probably think it's the uninformed that buys Wii games so they just drop it.....bah....This had potential and still does.....but I just fear they ruined a great chance....

Shame on you sega...
Please bring out some good games for a change. You can't support a fanbase on blind nostalgia alone. Stop rushing out pieces of crapola.

Come on Sega! Delay the game and bring it online. Wii will wait.

Well, thanks for creating another cheap quickly rushed game. Get it together Sega!

I'm tired of hearing excuses why Wii games don't have online play. Delay the game. Or not, I'll just save my money. Sometimes, I don't even care so much about playing online, but not having the option just grates on my nerves. I could have just as easily bought an Xbox 360, and I expect developers to play like they really want me to drop 50 bones. A lot of other things out there I could buy...
(Still ticked off about Bomberman Land for Wii...)

Admitting that "time and development resource constraints" are the reason that online play has been removed from the Wii version (despite being available in all other versions) is inexcusable.
Sega is telling me that this Wii game wasn't important enough to demand the time and resources required to bring it up to par with other versions, but they still want me to open my wallet and happily buy it? No thanks.
Even though Sega Superstar Tennis looks great, I refuse to buy a game that was been gimped simply because Sega didn't care enough to give it equal attention.

Worms, Bomberman, Sega SuperStar Tennis. The inability (or unwillingness) of developers to offer online play for Wii games is a growing trend that has me worried.
Even worse is the catch-22 consumers are left with: not buy lame 3rd party efforts and then have to listen to publishers whine about how only Nintendo can profit on the console, or send the message to publishers that Wii consumers will buy any half-assed crap they release.

I agree, I don't mind to wait one month or two for this game, if this results in a nice and welcome online play.
Kogen @ Mar 15th 2008 12:24AM
You do realise this game is on 5 different formats with a relatively small team who have to release them all at the same date while adding motion controls and this is their first Wii game?
Wii Sports and Mario and Sonic did good without online, why shouldn't this?
unknownuser @ Mar 23rd 2008 5:26PM
I'm pretty sure y the wii version doesnt have online.... Friend codes.... blame nintendo.... I bet there would have been way more online games for wii and DS if nintendo didnt do the stupid friend code thing.
