Do you trust Thanko with your TV?
Thanko, manufacturer of the DS battery pack wrist band, has created a TV stand specially designed for Wii users, though it would also be of use to DDR enthusiasts or, we suppose, treadmill owners. Thanko's Dendou Shoukoushiki Oogata TV Stand (Electric Rising and Lowering Large TV Stand) has a remote-controlled lift function that can raise your TV to eye level when you stand up to play Wii.
It's designed for flat panel TVs, so we're denied theopportunity of paying 69,800 yen ($683) for the privilege of a nicer viewing angle. But on the upside, we're totally free of any reason to consider purchasing dangerous and expensive furniture from a not-exactly-trusted company. The thing we like best about our current TV stand is that it keeps the TV absolutely still.

I got my tv for £20 from a "car boot", so this irrelevant to me. Frankly, this is irrelevant to most people. Who'd pay $600+ for a tv stand?
Apart from Bruce Wayne.

Bruce Wayne's TV stand would undoubtedly have an electric lift, though, wouldn't it?
Don Day @ Mar 12th 2008 12:25PM
I would bet on some sort of grappling hook built in as well. Why? Because he is fucking Bruce Wayne. And he can.
Don Day @ Mar 12th 2008 12:24PM
I think there might be something wrong with me because I actually thought this was cool upon initially seeing it. The price tag, not so much. Whatever, I kick it old school anyway with a 60" rear projection that can only display 480p.

The suggestion that one needs to keep the television at eye level to use or enjoy the Wii is ridiculous. And why anyone needs a lift for their TV instead of a wall-mount is beyond me. But other than that... yeah.

C'mon guys, who doesn't game on a flat panel? I got a 32" Olevia LCD for $550 at Circuit City 6 MONTHS AGO!

Responsible people?
vidGuy @ Mar 12th 2008 1:45PM
Responsible people don't play Wii haphazardly without the strap. Depending on where I'm at, I game on a 50" Vizio plasma, a 42" Sony plasma, or a 32" Sony flat-screen. No problems yet.
Nigeria @ Mar 12th 2008 2:02PM
I agree with JC: Responsible people.
Abscissa @ Mar 12th 2008 2:31PM
Financial responsibility FTW.
Abscissa @ Mar 12th 2008 2:09PM
I want one that rotates 90 degrees, for stuff like Ikaruga and MAME.
JC Fletcher @ Mar 12th 2008 2:12PM
Wow, now I really want a TV that easily goes into tate mode. Great idea.
Mr Khan @ Mar 12th 2008 5:20PM
I had to cover this same story for somethingorother (probably should remain secret right now)
Certainly covered it a bit differently than I did

1. Why would you want to stand while playing video games?
2. You dont point the Wiimote at the damn TV. You move it in relation to the cursor based on the relation to the sensor bar.
3. Raising your TV doesnt change the position of the sensor bar (Unless its stuck to the top of your TV.. and if you own an LCD, I cant imagine people sticking things to the top of it, honestly).
