Only one release this week and it's not Super Smash Bros. for N64. Screw that sandpaper marital aid.
Roto13 @ Mar 3rd 2008 12:53PM
*WITH a sandpaper marital aid.
I'm so annoyed I can't even type properly.
Gerwurztraminer @ Mar 3rd 2008 1:39PM
Super Smash Bros for N64 should have been a given months ago (i.e. the ill-fated Dec. 3rd). It would have been an easy way for Nintendo to make $10 a download. Today was their last chance.
Michael Sliczniak @ Mar 3rd 2008 12:55PM
It's quality not quantity. This was a fantastic game.
Alexisonfire @ Mar 3rd 2008 1:00PM
Damn you, nintendo. You're never going to get to the good stuff if you aren't releasing 3 games a week.
And even then...
Habb @ Mar 3rd 2008 1:03PM
There's really no excuse for 1 game a week. The games have already been made. All Nintendo has to do is dump a rom. That's all they have to do. And they can't be bothered to do more than dump 1 rom a week?
I'm really looking forward to Virtual Console getting the games I want... in 2016, or 2017.
Oh, wait, the Wii won't be available anymore by then.
Co @ Mar 3rd 2008 2:15PM
Nintendo would be fools not to carry over the VC to their next console.
3cubed minus 3squared plus1 @ Mar 3rd 2008 1:05PM
This is just getting retarded. Three games a week was good.
We also need more RPGs. Phantasy Star and Breath of Fire aren't enough choices.
Sonic_13 @ Mar 3rd 2008 1:08PM
Next week has the potential to be really good.
As we all know, Smash Bros. will include demos of VC titles so that we can try them out and even purchase them if we want to. However, not all of the Virtual Console titles being demoed are currently available for download. Arguably, the most notable of these titles is Earthbound. It's entirely possible that we could be seeing Earthbound next Monday...
Alexisonfire @ Mar 3rd 2008 1:15PM
Don't get your hopes up.
Sure, the idea makes sense. But Nintendo's actions never have.
Dopple Boppler @ Mar 3rd 2008 3:28PM
They showed Mother 2 on the Japanese Dojo, but not Earthbound on the American Dojo. Not to mention Mother 2 still hasn't been added to the Japanese Virtual Console.
My guess is that next week's Virtual Console releases will be even worse off than the average week. Remember how after Mario Galaxy came out it was like three or four weeks of nothing but games ranging from mediocre to downright bad?
Jonah Falcon @ Mar 3rd 2008 1:46PM
ESRB approved Pengo and Super Pitfall for the Wii, so I guess you can look forward to those.
stupid @ Mar 4th 2008 7:18PM
Oh man im pissed no SSB!!! argh nintendo comon this is unaccetable, what is going throught your head wen u release like 1-3 VC games a week? "oh i will get more money because they will have no choice but to buy a couple VC games a week instead of just dumping a bunch of roms and giving them a really choice" god their so dumb right now, they already own the lisence to the games they already made decades ago(exept the ones were developper and publishers got bought by another company or something like that, i dont know) so why not just give us a real choice???? im not going to waist my money on shitty VC games just cuz they cost 10$ or less. i only buy the good ones. and theirs a dozen or so right now and i already have them all. im in the lets start a mob mood -.-
Haohmaru @ Mar 4th 2008 8:25PM
I think most of us do "only buy the good ones," or at least what we perceive as the good ones. Keep in mind that not everyone else has the same perception of which VC games are "good ones." Personally, I make no secret of how hilarious I'm finding the general outcry over Smash Bros. 64 as if Nintendo were denying people the Holy Grail of Video Games.
Brawl is, of course, the same game with improvements that make the original obsolete in every way possible. Play it, love it, and then thank yourself for not wasting $10 on blind nostalgia.
Blue_Falcon @ Mar 3rd 2008 2:05PM
River City Ransom. ;_;
shawn @ Mar 3rd 2008 2:09PM
this is getting really stupid,i mean all there doing is uploading a damn rom to the system, how long does that take what maybe a few seconds depending on the game....i kinda figured nintendo would eventually pull this with the vc cuz wiiware is gonna be getting used soon so maybe there just not caring abou the vc anymore
TheOverlord#2 @ Mar 3rd 2008 5:41PM
Uhm...WiiWare comes out in 10-11 weeks on May 12th...thats enough time for good games out.
Haohmaru @ Mar 3rd 2008 2:12PM
I will never understand all of the folks begging for the original Smash Bros. when Brawl is less than a week away. :P I've followed the series since then, too, but oh my god - Melee improved everything about the original. It's pretty much the same game, with improved graphics, more characters, and better gameplay. So.. really, what would be the point of releasing Smash 64?
Flame @ Mar 3rd 2008 3:09PM
With your logic the same could be said about all sequels that improved upon the original game (i.e. most of them) so why bother having the vc at all if we can just get the new games? Well, because the classics are still awesome. Bring me the original Smash Bros. and I shall pay you $10 Nintendo!
Haohmaru @ Mar 3rd 2008 4:17PM
That's quite different. Even Zelda: Twilight Princess, despite sharing many similarities to the Ocarina of Time, is still a very different game from its predecessor. The same goes for Mario 64 compared to Sunshine and Galaxy. I won't even begin to elaborate on the differences between the 8 and 16-bit 2D classics to the current generation. Those should be pretty obvious, right?
Smash Bros. Melee is, at its core, the same game as the N64 game, albeit with improved controls, more characters, more graphical power, and a variety of new modes. I have a lot of memories of playing the original Smash, too, but there's no way I'd spend $10 on it when I will realistically be too busy playing the beefed up version of the same game to care.
Flame @ Mar 3rd 2008 6:08PM
Well that's why we all wanted it to come out BEFORE Brawl was released. Because we wanted to go back and play the game at its roots before the release of the newest, and most likely best, edition of the series. Personally the few days before Brawl comes out I wanted to sit down with some friends and just play the 64 version and then go into Melee and THEN purchase and bask in the glory of all that is Brawl. This would've been an easy way for Nintendo to make a lot of money off of their virtual console before the release of Brawl. I'm sure if they release it in the future it'll still do well, but this would've been much, much better timing.
Jeremy @ Mar 3rd 2008 2:21PM
Yeah why is Nintendo putting the VC on the back burner? I thought for sure we would see some Smash Brothers love on the VC this week. Hell even MP3 got tons of VC love. It is like Nintendo is starting to cut fans off. First we go to one title a week and now not even a SSB classic to celebrate Brawl.
s.mario @ Mar 3rd 2008 2:37PM
Nintendo: Champions of Consoles, horrible at actually aquiring out money (i.e. slow releases, non-releases)
HEY NINTENDO, I WANT TO GIVE YOU MY MONEY!!!
sbmikkim @ Mar 3rd 2008 3:37PM
This game isn't bad, but it isn't great...
I really need SMRPG to be released, playing it on my comp stinks...
Need more N64 Releases as well...
TheOverlord#2 @ Mar 3rd 2008 5:52PM
I pray for a week with Earthbound and SMRPG all in one.
Im so glad I grew up in the N64 era...I have a bunch of the classics including Super Smash Bros., Paper Mario, Both LoZ's, SM64, etc. so I don't have to pay $10 :D
turrican @ Mar 3rd 2008 5:58PM
"So, uh ... who's excited?"
...me? Heh.
nintendo1889 @ Mar 3rd 2008 6:41PM
What's stopping Nintendo/Square Enix/HAL from releasing Chrono Trigger, Earthbound or even Mario RPG!? Heck, if they keep this up (the lack of RPGs), I just might get an SD Card Media launcher, get Snes9x GC, DOWNLOAD the ROMs (yeah, Nintendo, you heard me) and play it on the wii. I don't care if that's illegal; what're they gonna do, release it on the Virtual Console just to spite me?
stupid @ Mar 6th 2008 8:00AM
its not a waist, i would rather buy SSB then get some dumb shooter game. anyways, i just want more selection in VC. its not the holy grail of video games, SSBB is :P and until that comes out, i am in a super smash bros mood and ssb could have been that way to play super smash bros until SSBB but nope.
