Good music possible in Guitar Hero: Aerosmith
In addition to the rumored (but now unlikely, according to the RedOctane press release) drum and microphone compatibility, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith may have one other saving grace: bands that are better than Aerosmith. Buried in the original press release is a note that you'll be able to play not only Aerosmith songs, but also "songs from celebrated artists that the band has either performed with or has been inspired by in some way."
USA Today mentions "opening acts" in a blurb about the game, and a Best Buy flyer says that you'll be able to "rock out with Aerosmith and all their favorite bands." Hopefully all of Aerosmith's favorite bands are not also Aerosmith. An Aerosmith fansite even goes so far as to say "think Run-DMC." We would like to think that, thank you. Aerosmith has, of course, performed with Run-DMC.
There's also the unfortunate possibility that the "opening act bands" featured in the game could be worse than Aerosmith, but that seems statistically unlikely. And don't forget, even with other bands, it'll be hard to avoid Aerosmith in a game called Guitar Hero: Aerosmith.

Aha. Considering that the band counts a number of blues acts among its influences, I hope we see some good classic tracks from Muddy Waters and others. Stuff like Janis Joplin and Hendrix seems likely, too. Might actually be worth picking up.
seetrapp @ Mar 3rd 2008 8:10PM
Or the Yardbirds. That would kick ayass. Guitar Hero:The Yardbirds would be awesome. They should do something like that (meaning with a less well-known band and shorter tracklist) as a WiiWare title for those who already have the guitar.
Ranus Studios @ Mar 3rd 2008 5:21PM
It's Guitar Hero. I'm getting it whether I like it or not.
dwain white @ Mar 3rd 2008 5:27PM
Alls I can say is, you gots a problem with Aerosmith yous gots a problem wit me!
DBuck_Eye @ Mar 3rd 2008 8:41PM
Huh huh! You tells 'em Cletus, i mean dwain! We don't take kindly to you "non-aerosmith-liking" folks 'round these parts.
Jumbo @ Mar 3rd 2008 5:37PM
any word on Rock Band?
flatluigi @ Mar 3rd 2008 5:43PM
I'd have to say, even if there aren't any other bands on it Aerosmith certainly has the discography to make it a good game.
Mr Khan @ Mar 3rd 2008 5:52PM
Why is all the internet suddenly unified in its effort to shit on one of the best classic rock supergroups
Who'll be their next target, the Who?
Haohmaru @ Mar 3rd 2008 6:11PM
I was thinking the same thing when I first read this article
danny. @ Mar 3rd 2008 6:28PM
They haven't been good since before the internet existed.

Yeah, I wish the main articles were a bit less critical sometimes.
Let us fight out the pros and cons in the comments section.
Matt @ Mar 4th 2008 2:43AM
Yeah, I totally agree... this article is a little too critical on the #1 best selling band in rock history... and with the number of hits they've had and songs to top the rock charts... It's a little silly to me that the opinion is stated in such a way that makes it seem everyone agrees... Also, Aerosmith has SOOOO much variety! What other band can go from "Walk This Way" to "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" to "Love In An Elevator" to "Pink" to "Cryin'" to "Mama Kin" to "Dream On," and still hit some harder rock songs like "Crash," "Light Inside," and "Nine Lives...." It think this band is WAY more incredible and note-worthy than this article gives it credit for...

What I'm really hoping for from this game is Aerosmith's renditions of Come Together and Helter Skelter, since there's 0 chance that a real Beatles song will ever make it into Guitar Hero or Rock Band.
I do very much like Aerosmith's own stuff too though, so either way I'll be picking this game up.
Croove55 @ Mar 3rd 2008 6:11PM
Sooooo..... I take it you aren't that into Aerosmith, JC?
I really still don't see myself considering this game until a song list is revealed. Even then, I'd say GH3 is enough for me.
Matt B @ Mar 3rd 2008 6:13PM
At first I was a little meh about getting this, but after not have GH3 for so long, I realized that I really love Guitar Hero, and that I want more songs. And I do like a bunch of their songs. And on top of that, there is other bands- yeah, I'm definitely getting it now. I'm still buying Rock Band of course, but this will be a nice addition to my rock game collection, especially since I don't have a PS2 or Xbox 360 and GH1 or GH2.
TVGenius @ Mar 3rd 2008 6:29PM
Guess I don't get the big surprise over this. It says it on the giant posters I saw at GameStop all weekend too. And it was in the press release...
Sonic_13 @ Mar 3rd 2008 6:31PM
Aerosmith is a great band. Why the hate?
TheDave @ Mar 3rd 2008 6:38PM
While Aerosmith is certainly not one of my favorite bands.
They certainly don't suck, or make 100% bad music, they have plenty of good/great songs. I will for sure be getting this game when it comes out, as I just enjoy playing GH.
What Craptivision REALLY needs to do, is back-port & release GH I & GH II for the Wii already!
Lets just hope they pull their heads out of their arses this time when they Q A the game for the Wii, and actually deliver something proper this time.
shadowchaoscontrol @ Mar 3rd 2008 8:18PM
yay for GH1&2 for wii, i've been itching to play thunderhorse
clif @ Mar 3rd 2008 6:41PM
Well I'm considering to pick this game up more and more. Since I'm looking at a second guitar to pick up, I might just get the Aerosmith Bundle with guitar/drums/mic whatever it's going to end up being. Since 59.99 dollars is a little pricey. I have rock band for the ps3 and the drums, mic and downloadable content makes the game perfect. DLC for this game SHOULD be ready from day one for the wii.
But wouldn't having drums and a mic make guitar hero, rock band:aerosmith??? One wonders.
I think if the game has run-dmc in it then it's a good sign.
Also the legendary wii gh/rb question is....IF gh:aerosmith uses drums and mic maybe it would be compatible with rock band in the near future????
shadowchaoscontrol @ Mar 3rd 2008 8:20PM
we can only hope, pray, and wait
Jason @ Mar 3rd 2008 7:12PM
how about a guitar hero game with no songs on it?
it might be better than guitar hero: aerosmith.
but weather you like them or not the fact of the matter is that they are pushing out too many guitar hero games in too short a time span.
Soto Saki @ Mar 3rd 2008 7:58PM
Well. At least it's new songs. I'm tired of playing Cliffs of Dover and Cult of Personality.
CuriousG @ Mar 4th 2008 4:53AM
"What Craptivision REALLY needs to do, is back-port & release GH I & GH II for the Wii already!"
This is coming sooner than you think. Well maybe not from Activision. :)

Amen! The games they need to put out are ALREADY made! Just port the previous games to the Wii! How hard can this be?
I would get both immediately. Not sure if I'll get an all or mostly Aerosmith game.
I think they had the right idea with the 80s game though. They should continue putting out various genre packs. Metal, grunge, classic, oldies... etc. Bluegrass hero anyone? =]
Perverted @ Mar 4th 2008 8:08AM
Maybe Aerosmith ain't his type of music? They ain't my cup of tea either.....And they don't sound very rock-ish....and of all the songs I've heard of theirs I wouldn't call any of them "hard"....
BrokenClipboard @ Mar 4th 2008 10:04AM
Old Aerosmith, from the albums Aerosmith, Get Your Wings, Toys In The Attic, Rocks, Draw The Line is good hard rock(well besides Dream On). And yes good music did come out before I was(and many of you) were alive....
scaught @ Mar 4th 2008 11:17AM
AAmen Broken Clipboard. Amen!! Aerosmith from the 70s was pretty damn amazing. Rocks is actually one of my all time favorite classic rock albums.
I try to keep that era of Aerosmith seperate in my mind from the later Aerosmith who crooned such mind numbing drivel like"I don't wanna miss a thing!"
Oh by the way, Joe Perry is a pretty amazing and highly regarded guitar player. So this game will be lots of fun for sure.
Andrew @ Mar 4th 2008 11:56AM
If you read the actual press release from the RedOctane site, you'll notice a few things:
1 - It says "puts players in the shoes of Perry (guitar), Whitford (guitar) and Hamilton (bass), as they rock out alongside frontman Tyler and drummer Kramer. " To me, this means no mic and no drums.
2 - It does mention in this article there will be other bands as well, so I guess that makes it official, although it doesn't say who.
3 - Aerosmith likes to talk about themselves and how good they are (I'm a fan, but come on... you don't have to pump yourselves up that much!!!).

I, for one, will be buying GH:Aerosmith for Aerosmith. I could care less about the other bands that may be included. I just hope they don't suck.
And hopefully I'll be able to get it bundled...I need a second guitar and $70 is asking too much.
Ghen @ Mar 4th 2008 4:54PM
amen, there's a reason Aerosmith is a household name whether you like them or not... Lots of people like them including myself. I was actually extremely surprised to read the poison I've been reading on the different weblogs sites about this game.
Tatinho @ Mar 5th 2008 6:12AM
Lol such a hater, whoever wrote this article surley is into rap. Aerosmith is a great band I don't get why you give 'em so much hell. I'm glad it has other bands in it though, guns n roses will be there for sure, gonna be a fun game to play, hopefully we'll get it in Europe too.
Boneyard @ Mar 13th 2008 3:53PM
Aerosmith was and still is a kick ass rock band that still kicks ass today. I know all of their music and own all of their CDs and I have gone to many of their concerts. They are awesome! Most awesome rock bands from the 70's aren't even around anymore. That's another thing that makes Aerosmith amazing. And Aerosmith was infact the Best Selling American Rock band of all time. They have so many Platinum (8x, 7x, etc) albums and top hits.
Most reviews so far say Aerosmith sucks, which is not true. If you want to say you're not a fan of Aerosmith, then that's another story. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But seriously, just because YOU don't like them doesn't mean they all of a sudden suck, and are the worst rock band ever.
