Import-only Milon sequel headed to American Virtual Console
DoReMi Fantasy: Milon no DokiDoki Daibouken recently popped up out of nowhere on Australia's ratings board page as an upcoming Virtual Console release. It has yet to come out in that region (or any other), but the OFLC's American counterpart has given us a similar clue to the game's upcoming North American release.
The ESRB lists the game as DoReMi Fantasy: Milon's DokiDoki Adventure, which is a direct and incomplete (meaning part of it is still in Japanese) translation of the original title. This will likely be the first Japan-only SNES game to be released on the U.S. Virtual Console. It will also be the first Hudson SNES game to be released. It's also a totally cute game, and not as annoying as Milon's Secret Castle.

I approve. This trend must be continued.

"not as annoying as Milon's Secret Castle"
Ouch. Dissing one of my favorite games from childhood stings a bit. Say what you will, that game was hardcore. There was no option to beat the game in 20 to 30 minutes like there was with classic Mario games. Beating that thing was a badge of honor I never had the privelege to claim until a couple of years ago, upon finally replaying it a few years back. Even with 20+ years in gaming and a little help now and then from a walkthrough (something I didn't have the benefit of when I was younger), it was still a really tough game to complete. But, then again, I really love Castlevania 2, so my opinion is usually not par for the course when it comes to NES games. As for the sequel, judging by the video above, it looks more like an easy Adventure Island spinoff than it does the original. Is it any good?

DoReMi is actually very awesome. Like yourself, I'm a huge fan of the original. However, I must admit that DoReMi is much more fun to play. It handles wonderfully as opposed to the stiff controls of the original. The only bummer is that it seems to be lacking the hidden areas of the original.
Regardless, I highly recommend DoReMi, likely even over the original.

Mother 3.
kthxbai.
Mr Khan @ Mar 4th 2008 9:33AM
I think they'll eventually package Mother 3 as a WiiWare title
NvM @ Mar 3rd 2008 6:47PM
I know that was unrelated, but this game makes it seem more of a reality.
TheOverlord#2 @ Mar 3rd 2008 7:03PM
It looks like Super Mario Bros.(platforming), Bubble Bobble(obvious reasons), and Kirby(graphics) in one!
@NvM
MOTHER 3 is a GameBoy Advance game...sorry for shooting down your dreams, but it hurts me too...
I still hope for Earthbound Zero to get translated and shipped to the U.S. VC though!

Why, this game is too cute for a manly man such as myself.
*privately makes plans to buy said game upon release*
Haohmaru @ Mar 3rd 2008 9:33PM
Agreed. It's a huge departure from the Secret Castle I grew up with. Still, it does look fun.
(And on an entirely unrelated note, I loved Castlevania II as well.)

Aaaand this was supposed to be a reply to "ahistoryleftforusintherain."

Wow! Looks like a walk-in-the-park compared to the original Milon. I swear, that game was freaking unbelievably hard. I don't think I ever made it past the 3rd level....
Deozaan @ Mar 4th 2008 12:53PM
Why does Milon suddenly look like Link in a Sonic game with Super Mario World graphics?
Hero of legend @ Mar 6th 2008 9:42PM
Exactly what I thought! lol
To be honest, I kind of hope the game costs 1,000 points, as I'm more of an N64 buyer and I only buy the Wii Point Cards (2,000 points), I don't like to have 200 remaining points when I can't really do a thing with them right away.
Yeah I know, I'm weird! XD
Milon Fantasy (my shortened nickname, big whoop, wanna fight about it?) looks like my kind of game, a cute character based platformer, and it resembles Mario and Sonic's 16-bit games, I HIGHLY approve!
Come on Hudson, make a Milon 3 for Wii or DS, actually, DS may honestly be the best choice, as you could just make it 2D. :P
2D games like these are the only games I'd want on the DS instead of the Wii, it just works! :P
Haohmaru @ Mar 4th 2008 1:05PM
Meh. The character of Milon has always had the slight resemblence to Link thing going on. It's not as fast-paced as the 16-bit Sonic games, but it looks like a pretty solid platformer..
