Capcom blog says RE Zero port still has hope for North American release
Imagine our surprise when Capcom's blog updated to our RSS about the Wii port of Resident Evil Zero. We thought yesterday would be the end of talk pertaining to the game releasing here in the west. But, for you European readers, know this doesn't apply to you. Capcom Europe passed on the project, so apparently there's no hope there.
But, back to us in North America. The latest entry in the Capcom blog says they "are watching the progress on the game, and if it ends up blowing up huge like RE4 Wii did, we'll evaluate the possibility of bringing it over here and flipping the lingo sos that y'all can read it." For those of you that don't speak hip blog, that last bit at the end means that they'll localize the game over here with English text and speech.
You all pretty much know how we feel (Resident Evil = we buy) about the whole thing, but what do you think? We know a lot of you aren't looking for another Resident Evil port unless it, you know, validates itself.

Wow. A port of a crappy game I can already play on my Wii. My cup runneth over.
adolson @ Feb 29th 2008 12:24PM
I'd buy it for the right price. RE4 at $29.99 was a steal. I'd love to see all the RE games on the Wii, though. If we're not getting RE5, it's the least they can do. Budget pricing too. RE4 controls were great. I couldn't get far in the GC version, but the Wii version I couldn't put down (I suck at aiming with analogs).

heck yes i would buy it!!! i love resident evil games and this is the only one i dont have. i was thinking of buying it and buying a gamecube control just for RE0 and RE remake but i guess not anymore. well maybe RE remake. maybe they'll put that one on the wii too. nice.
snu183 @ Feb 29th 2008 1:11PM
I'd most def pick it up if it was $30 or less. But id rather be buying re2 wii edition then re0.

Yeah porting RE 2 & 3 would be good. Especially if they were $29.99 it'd be a way to do away with Gamestop and everyone on Ebay overcharging on used GC copies of the games.
Deegan @ Feb 29th 2008 2:39PM
The only reason the RE4 port sold nearly as well as it did was because of enhanced controls, what kind of changes can be made to RE0 that involve pointing or waggling?
Pointz @ Feb 29th 2008 4:31PM
Porting Re2? they need to remake that shizz using an enhanced version of the re4 engine with different Zombie types i.e. fast, slow, aggressive and the Crimson heads. That's what the Wii deserves. Obviously Capcom are just too lazy, in fact I'm gonna nag the fuck out of them until it's announced.

RE0 in America = Win
dubq @ Feb 29th 2008 9:01PM
What's the point? There's already a perfectly acceptable version of RE0 on the Gamecube, that's also playable on the Wii. If Capcom really wants something worthwhile to spend their time on, Wii-wise, then how about giving RE 2 and 3 complete remakes in the vein of RE4?
Waffala @ Mar 1st 2008 3:04AM
If Capcom realizes that the reason re4 did so well on Wii wasn't the fact that "hey look, a game that was supposed to be exclusive to Nintendo but was then ported to other systems, and can already be played on the latest Nintendo system and the one before it", and that what made it great was the upgraded engine, which should be the basis of every new RE game from now on, because it finally made sense, then I'd be interested in a new version of this. Until then, why would I not just play the gamecube version, it's less expensive.
Seriously though, why is Wii not getting RE5, it's just going to have those irritating controls on the 360 and PS3 that made the originals so inaccessible, which RE4:Wii did away with to become a smash hit. Does Capcom not want to make money? Everyone knows Nintendo prints the stuff. *facepalm*

"Seriously though, why is Wii not getting RE5, it's just going to have those irritating controls on the 360 and PS3 that made the originals so inaccessible, which RE4:Wii did away with to become a smash hit."
...? No offense, but buh-wah? What the hell are you saying?
1.) RE5 is using the same control scheme as RE4 (not the supposed "irritating controls" of the rest of the series).
- and if you're trying to say that the controls of RE4 are "inaccessible", keep in mind my 45 year old mom plays RE4 (on the hardest setting). It's her favorite game.
2.) RE4 was a smash hit long before adding waggle on the Wii.
3.) Have you watched the gameplay footage for RE5? There is no way this would run on the Wii.
Kabapu @ Mar 1st 2008 2:41PM
Let me edit that comment just to be clear ---> she plays RE4 on the GC, not the Wii. You know, with the "inaccessible" control scheme and all.
dubq @ Mar 1st 2008 9:13PM
Kabapu, when Waffala said that the controls would be irritating again in RE5 on the 360 and PS3, I'm sure they meant irritating in the fact that you're using a controller stick instead of the remote to aim. THAT is irritating.
As for it being smash hit before it was on the Wii.. well it became much MORE of a smash hit once it came out on the Wii... And the game is hardly just a port with waggle. There's a whole different engine inplace to deal with the aiming reticule, etc.
RE5 could run on the Wii, it'd just have to be scaled down in terms of graphics and onscreen characters. As someone who doesn't bow down to the "bigger next gen" systems, it's not a big deal, IMO.
hvnlysoldr @ Mar 2nd 2008 1:08AM
I can't wait to have all the RE games on Wii.
Dr_W@dsy @ Mar 5th 2008 8:20PM
Like I've said previously (on the announcement of the RE0 remake) I'll buy it if it happens. Don't own the GC version, haven't seen it second-hand anywhere. Happy to get it, since it's the only RE I haven't played that I'm keen on (also skipped the Veronica ones, but meh).
