Wii Fit pricing revealed for Europe
Though Europeans will get their hands and feet on Wii Fit as soon as April 25th, a month before us Yanks, they'll pay a premium for that privilege -- £69.99 (approx. $138) in the UK and €89.99 (approx. $133) in the rest of Europe.
These price points are a stark contrast to the results from a recent IGN poll asking readers how much they would be willing to pay for the exercise software and balance board peripheral. Of the 6116 people surveyed, 27.6% stated that they would not pay above $49.99, the lowest-price poll option, 15.9% claimed the same for $59.99, 18.9% chose $69.99, 22.5% set their limit at $79.99, and 7.4% still showed interest at the $89.99 and $99.99 marks.
It can be argued that European gamers are used to paying much higher prices than their North American counterparts and that Guitar Hero III bundles were also priced at £69.99/€89.99, but that's still a lot more expensive than how much we expected. At the recent Game Developers Conference, Nintendo of America mentioned that the Wii Fit bundle would be under $100 for the US.

... I pass ... 89.99€ ... I'd rather buy a real scale and a pre-owned snowboard for that money.

No bad.

IGN also deducted from their data that the majority of US gamers (at a a staggering 27.6%) would not pay above $50, while a small minority (at a mere 72.4%) would.

I wouldn't pay over $70 for this thing. I mean, it's probably more well made than those DDR pads and those are probably $60-$70 with the game.

I think the pricing polls are going to be skewed by the more traditional gamers. If you could control who answered the poll, you'd ultimately like to see only those who are interested in buying the product. That would give you a real idea of what the consumer will pay.
For example, I'm not the least interested in Wii Fit and probably wouldn't pick it up for more than $30. That doesn't mean that Casual Gamer #1 would hold out for the $30 price point though. I think the ideal price is no more than $79.99, and that's pushing it. You have to remember that the games most casuals buy are in the $10-$30 range.

I think this is rediculous, us lowly Uk gamers have always had to pay more for consoles and games (and itunes) and this is despicable especially when there has been a recent trend in the UK of lowering Wii games to closer to the £20 mark. Not happy with Nintendos money grabbing ways at the moment, first paying for internet and now this (but i secretly love you alot too)

99.99 anyone?

This is gonna be a tough sell. Will people who'd be interested in this kind of fitness device know about it? They're gonna have to do a lot of Oprah and The Today Show to get this in homes.

I for one will not be buying, can see the thing being shoved down beside the sofa after a couple of months anyway.
The board could have great potential for other games, but will it be fully taken advantage of or will it be poorly implemented into alot of games(I'm looking at you remote & nunchuk!) and turn out more of a gimmick than a realistic control scheme.

Looks to me like they're gearing up for $89.99 here -- games seem often to go for $1= €1, and the differential between the Japanese and American price of normal games (¥4880 for $49.99 games, and ¥8800 for Wii Fit) points pretty strongly to an $89.99 price. (Do the math).
I could be wrong, of course, but that's what it looks like to me.
Is it worth $89.99? Good question, but have you looked at how darn hard it was to get a copy of DDR for the Wii at retail price in January? People will pay serious money for exergaming. It'll probably sell. Remember, you're not selling this to the people who read IGN. You're selling this to the yoga moms.
That said, a post-Christmas or early-January release would have probably netted a lot more sales...

I wasn't willing to pay more £44.99....No Wii Fit for me then. I've never paid more than £25 for any game and never will. I buy my games by price comparison Vs USA/Dollar.
If America gets it for $89.99 I want it for £44.99.
Better luck next time Nintendo(I cannot see this selling for that sky high price).

Being 15, I collected Christmas/Birthday funds this year for Mario Kart & Brawl.
After Brawl & MKWii though, I will only have $73. I was wondering what game to buy and I thought I would just buy Wii Fit. Only two problems though:
1. Price- I probably wont get more money soon...
2. Boring- If I want to spend 69.99(+ tax) on something...I don't wanna get bored out of it.
Any suggestions for other games I could buy?
Jeff @ Feb 28th 2008 12:42AM
Generally "Under $100" means exactly $99.99
:\
I'll still buy it, though i'd probably buy a few (for friends) if it were much closer to $69 (and i'd be HAPPY to buy it at $49)
