A GoNintendo reader, PRC902,
reported that Sears was selling
Super Smash Bros. Brawl early, and provided the above picture as evidence. The picture comes from
NeoGAFfer Tenbatsu, who may or may not be the same person, and doesn't actually explain where the game came from, which is not much confirmation that the game is out on Sears' shelves. We did some
journalism and called our local Sears, who didn't have the game in stock. So
that's the end of that chapter.
Or
is it? Sears' website lists the game as
in stock and, in fact, accepted our order (done also
for journalism). If it ships within the next couple of days, there's a pretty good chance we'll be receiving it early. We will, of course, let you know what happens. We're hoping for either an early copy of the game or a
$10 gift card.

Yeah, they've already disabled it...just tried and couldn't get the game to display.
therpham @ Feb 27th 2008 7:25PM
DO WANT! Too bad the Sears in my town is too far away to bother driving to if they don't have it...
Joe Cart @ Feb 27th 2008 7:32PM
ahh hell i'll savor it till march... though a little sample of the game couldnt hurt ;)
Broward @ Feb 27th 2008 7:33PM
Good luck with that. Sears.com listed Lost Odyssey in stock a month and a half before release, yet did not ship till the release date.
Sonic_13 @ Feb 27th 2008 7:44PM
I find this hard to believe as don't stores usually only receive game shipments a few days before their release at the earliest?
This would mean that stores already received their shipments 1.5 - 2 weeks ahead of launch.
Sonic_13 @ Feb 27th 2008 7:46PM
Now displayed on the Sears website:
"You have reached this page because the product you selected is no longer available on our site, or is temporarily out of stock due to high demand."
eblob88 @ Feb 27th 2008 9:04PM
It's a lie!!! I just called SEARS and they didn't have any. When I asked them when it's coming out, they said March 9th.
Sonic_13 @ Feb 27th 2008 9:28PM
It doesn't necessarily mean that it is a lie. It is entirely possible that one Sears store jumped the gun and started selling copies.
JC Fletcher @ Feb 27th 2008 10:08PM
The online bit's not a lie, at least. They removed the product listing from the website. I was able to put an order in before it went down, though I'm not confident they'll actually ship it out tomorrow.
As for in-store, I fully believe that some Sears stores got their shipments and accidentally ignored the ship date. It happens with a lot of big games.
bobbyszy @ Mar 4th 2008 5:28PM
i called my local sears at the mall and they in fact do have brawl in stock, in fact they said there next shipment is tommorow, wed the 5th and my friend is going to get two copies (if i can get a refund because i already bought the game. the funniest part is that the mall is also hosting a tourny the day of realese right below that sears. hope gamestop doesnt find out.
ps the sears i called is in pa 15108 at the robinson mall in pittsburgh.
Julian @ Feb 27th 2008 9:12PM
Well I called my local Sears here in Colorado Springs, CO and apparently they have all there reservation copies in stock, but they're not allowed to sell them until March 9th.
(01) @ Feb 27th 2008 9:42PM
nice guys, you almost got me off my couch running to the nearest Sears....unfortunately, it's totally untrue. I can't even find the game on their site, let alone the ability to buy it. 10 days....
michael @ Feb 27th 2008 9:47PM
I confirmed with two different Sears, West Hartford, CT and Enfield, CT, that they did sell brawl today. However, Manchester, CT and Meriden, CT claimed to know nothing about it. I guess it varies from store to store
yippy skippy @ Feb 27th 2008 11:03PM
SO WHATS EVERYBODY GONNA FREKOUT ABOUT NEXT, AFTER THE RELEASE OF BRAWL DOES HAPPEN?,....WHATS IN THE PIPELINE?
rdjl27 @ Feb 27th 2008 11:18PM
Most likely something that has nothing to do with caps, or random grammar and spelling mistakes.
samfish @ Feb 28th 2008 3:02AM
I DONT NO Y DONT YOU TELL US WHATS NEXT SO WE CAN FREKOUT ABUOT IT PORPORLY WHEN THE TIME CUMS???
Jay @ Feb 27th 2008 11:33PM
As I found out my sears doesn't even carry games at all.
At least it was nice to get off campus for awhile and then go chill at walmart later
Cyantre @ Feb 27th 2008 11:43PM
I think I may just do a sweep of the area at a bunch of different outlets to see if I can't get my hands on a copy of this game a bit sooner.
PSN: KillaKornbread (the shirt is a lie!) @ Feb 28th 2008 12:29AM
well im almost glad it didnt work cause i just put money down on it at GameCrazy this afternoon. it would be the Mario Galaxy thing all over again. i cant risk not getting it on launch day by not preordering it though and im not to keen on waiting outside in the cold for stuff (i was able to walk in Toys R Us on launch day and pick up my preorder Wii. doesnt get better than that.)
CHRIS AUGUST @ Feb 28th 2008 8:41AM
Sorry about the caps, and sorry for asking questions, not that i might actually find anything out. Too bad nintendo doesnt have a disc for interpersonal communication.
slothbot.com @ Feb 28th 2008 3:15PM
I called all local New Hampshire Sears locations and this is what I got:
Manchester - Not Selling
Nashua - Not Selling
Salem - Not Selling
Derry - Not Selling
Concord - Not Selling
we lose.
Gerwurztraminer @ Feb 28th 2008 3:08PM
I would say MKwii, although it doesn't have nearly as much hype as Brawl has had (what with the daily DOJO updates and all).
I can't think of anything with as much hype as Brawl right now. Although, I can think of someone out there who would say the MSG4-PS3 bundle is the next big thing.
Personally I think it's the return of Betamax.
Ouch2x4 @ Feb 28th 2008 7:46PM
I asked my friend that works at sears and he says they might be releasing it early but hes not 100% sure.
Dman @ Feb 28th 2008 9:43PM
well i called 3 different sears in my area (not telling where :D)
THEY ALL HAD IT
THEY ALL SOLD OUT
one guy told me they only got around 4 copies, which is odd, but my friends and i were told their next shipment comes this SATURDAY
were gonna go and check it out, hopefully this guy was right.....
Zeromus @ Feb 28th 2008 11:09PM
Well...I did a little digging the good ol'e Interwebs last night and found that several companies might be shipping a little early. I wont reveal who here, because you can search for yourself. With the Sears bit, I telephoned the various ones within a 90 mile radius and guess what happened on the last one: Sold out.
