Wii goes to the Oscars
A lot of things happen at the Oscars, many predictable, and some unexpected, but there's one thing we don't usually expect to see: video games. It's a measure of just how out-of-control the Wii movement is that the console turned up at this year's awards as a joke unto itself that featured host Jon Stewart losing his dignity in a game of Wii Sports tennis to young songstress Jamia Simone Nash of nominated film August Rush. It's not the first time the Comedy Central "anchors" have exploited the Wii for humorous effect, but the Daily Show's host seemed to need a little more practice with the sports simulation. Either that, or he just wasn't used to the enormous screen the game graced during the awards show. See for yourself in the video after the break.
[Thanks, Tim!]

Whoa, I so need to hook my Wii up to a 80 foot screen. My god, playing Metroid Prime 3 would be insane and exhausting. I might actually have to raise my arm to shoot tings at the top.

just to be annoying, you wouldn't need to raise your arm any more/any less because it's nothing to do with the screen size.. it's the sensor bar :P
..sorry, hah :) ;)

I'm not sure I could do that without getting motion sick. o_o

It's perfect for movies. Just think about. Those actors playing with their controllers jumping all about waving their hands around will now actually be correct in controlling the game.

Yea, the Wii movement is really out of control. So much so that this has nothing to do with Reggie and Co.'s marketing dollars and influence. The Oscars took time out of their 3 and 1/2 hour special presentation full of montages of the past 80 Oscar celebrations to show half a point in Wii Tennis (and Stewart's short remark about it) just cause the "Wii movement" is so huge.
Mhm.

I liked that it really didn't look like an ad to me. If it were paid placement, I think they would have shown the logo or talked more about it. It looked like an honest gag by Stewart, which is a huge reflection of how mainstream the Wii really is.

Then you underestimate the financial significance of airtime and product placement on television. It's significant.
It's not an honest gag when it's on-stage at the Oscars, first thing after a commercial break.
