GDC08: Extended Mario Kart trailer, remixed music
Remember that Mario Kart Wii trailer we posted just two days ago? Well, shift-delete that footage from your memory and replace it with this extended promotional video which debuted at the Game Developers Conference. Not only is this clip twice as long as the previous one we featured, but it has a remixed version of the old Mario Circuit music as its audio track instead of some guy who sounds like Jerry Seinfeld yelling in the background.
We can totally get behind this song! It sounds like something out of Bust a Groove!

nintendo rehash ftw.
Seriously, this looks no better that DD, and that was garbage.
Fatass of Kickassness @ Feb 23rd 2008 1:39PM
It may not look as good as, say, Galaxy, but to say that it looks no better than Double Dash is simply blind bashing on your part. I'm seeing better character models, better lighting, better textures, and an overall better looking game. Plus, with all the new features, this is looking infinitely better than DD ever was.
Smoke @ Feb 23rd 2008 12:12PM
The music's actually from Super Smash Bros Brawl. Also, I can't wait for Mario Kart Wii to come out.
Jay @ Feb 23rd 2008 2:11PM
that's what I was gonna say

That game looks sweet! I think that the trick system'll make it more intense, especially with the 12 player online. Only thing I don't like is how plasticy every character looks. They all seriously look like little action figures, and that's not a good thing.
JangoGod @ Feb 23rd 2008 12:36PM
SSBB and MK:Wii....I love you Nintendo. No more delays Ok?
Aj @ Feb 23rd 2008 4:01PM
Ditto.
Wouldn't mind a hdd and voice, hopefully both are coming real soon. I hate voice communication when it's insanity but when players are using it too strategize it's heaven. I really like M.O.H. Heroes 2 but w/ voice the online commponet would be even more incredible than it already is. Brawl and MK Wii all in one quarter thanks guys I truly appreciate it.
Shadow31 @ Feb 23rd 2008 12:57PM
Hmm... well, I will admit I felt pangs of nostalgia watching the gameplay video. Seriously, it seemed like a truly worthy sequel of Super Mario Kart, and since every sequel hasn't lived up to the original, it rekindles some hope. Still, I'd sooner have Super Mario Kart be released on VC at this point... won't trust this game until I try it.
nintendo1889 @ Feb 23rd 2008 1:08PM
Yeah, I have the complete Super Smash Brawl soundtrack (don't ask me how I got it) and I think the new Mario Kart will be pretty cool IMO, which will likely have online modes and other cool stuff like that.
camtouchesboys @ Feb 23rd 2008 1:58PM
looks suspiciously like mariokart to me
John B. @ Feb 23rd 2008 2:29PM
Why cant I just steer with a joystick like God intended me to? :(
SabreCat @ Feb 23rd 2008 3:01PM
You can. Like SSBB, Kart for the Wii will support several control schemes.
John B. @ Feb 23rd 2008 3:14PM
Thats awesome! Thank you for letting me know =D I can sleep easy now.
Justin Glow @ Feb 23rd 2008 2:33PM
Oddly enough, I have the Bust a Groove soundtrack in mp3 format.

Whoops.
caramelzappa @ Feb 23rd 2008 10:55PM
You can. I dunno if you can use the nunchuck or not but I remember reading that the gamecube controller is supported in mario kart wii.
Mickey @ Feb 23rd 2008 3:36PM
I remember getting mad playing MK:64 and not likeing MK:DD BUT for some reason this game looks awesome. Maybe it's because I miss playing video games with 4 people (something that I don't get to do anymore now that I'm work 40 hrs a week, married, and living 30-60 minutes from my gaming friends). Bring back high school!!!
Unbreakable_idea @ Feb 23rd 2008 5:04PM
Not graphically impressive, but Mario Kart never was. Looks like loads of fun, though. I love how in Nintendo's dillusional vision of the world people go out and buy 3 extra copies of the useless steering wheel attachment (in addition to the one it'll be bundled with) in order for everyone to have their own during 4 player multiplayer. That's just ridiculous.
Jayenkai @ Feb 23rd 2008 5:07PM
I just realised that, in order to play with the Wiil, I'm gonna have to take the rubber-doohickey off the controller.
Nnngh...
Unbreakable_idea @ Feb 23rd 2008 5:22PM
Exactly. Nintendo wants everyone to use those rubber Wii condoms, but then you have to take them off every time you use a silly plastic housing (Wiil, Zapper, fishing rod attachment, whatever they come up with next), and then swap the silly housing to change games (say from Mario Kart to RE:UC), and then take it out of the housing when your done in order to charge your batteries. I'll admit, I have been using the Wii condoms (the first time a drunk friend hit something with the Wii remote in my small living room, I realized that they were worth using), but these plastic housings are hardly worth the space they take up alongside my already too big collection of consoles, games and controllers, not to mention the hassle and time consuption of removing/inserting the wiimote before each new game session.
Marcos @ Feb 23rd 2008 8:35PM
does the Wiil interpret motion or is it just a hunk of plastic? if this is gonna be like that cow racing game on WiiPlay then I'll sadly have to pass.
Pointz @ Feb 23rd 2008 8:46PM
The remote of course. You don't need to use the Wii wheel, There's:
Wii Remote
Wii Remote + Wheel
Wii Remote + Nunchuk
Classic Controller
GameCube Controller.
Everybody wins. So buy this.
ken seang @ Feb 25th 2008 7:45PM
You know im up for mario kart and all but im sick of all these casual game stuff...
Keiichi @ Feb 24th 2008 6:18AM

Reaver @ Feb 25th 2008 11:05AM
Does anyone know if you will be able to purchase wheels on their own, or will it be some sort of stupid package deal like GH3?
