Mario Kart megaton: Mii integration, online menu navigation, and tracks exposed
Hot on the heels of yesterday's news (and today's, for that matter) on everyone's favorite upcoming racer, Mario kart Wii, comes fresh screens depicting a variety of the game's selling points. We get to see Mii integration (above), as well as a taste for some of the tracks making their way into the game, new and old alike. Not only that, but we get some screens for navigating the online arena and setting up a race.

Mii integration is going to make it a bit more interesting, hopefully. Mario Kart's more significant problem was the lack of character variety, something that's been steadily getting better since Double Dash, but was a limiting factor before that

A lot of questions surface regarding Mii stats, as well. How will their characteristics be determined?
Mr Khan @ Feb 20th 2008 2:25PM
I'm not sure if it was covered from the get-go (the article site is blocked here at school) but if you have to unlock Mii integration, you'll probably just get to choose which Kart you can use. I mean in MKDS, once you cleared all the diffuculties, which character you chose was meaningless anyway

On the Mii Channel don't you choose weight and height? I haven't played MC since 64, but wasn't weight essentially the biggest difference between different riders?
hvnlysoldr @ Feb 20th 2008 10:36PM
For Sonic Mario Olympics you could pick a Mii but essentially would have to tie it to one of the regular character's stats. I imagine something similar for this.
Just_a_guy @ Feb 20th 2008 11:27AM
let's hope that miis are more then just your generic driver...
Otis Whitaker @ Feb 20th 2008 11:39AM
I'm honestly surprised Nintendo would let you use Miis with non-friends online.
Skippy @ Feb 20th 2008 1:24PM
You can see your opponent's Mii in Mario Strikers when playing against strangers. Also the Mii of the current champion.
Tom @ Feb 20th 2008 12:34PM
I'm guessing your Mii's stats will be determined by their body type. If, for example, you're tall and skinny like me, then you're Mii driver, if you choose it, would have good speed (like Waluigi) because it's lightweight. Toad's bike looks awesome though. Does anyone know if Boo's been announced as a driver yet?
Estrada @ Feb 20th 2008 3:14PM
I have no idea what the text in this screen cap says, but I'm guessing it means you can select which type of racer you want your Mii to emulate:

anyone think that it will be possible to play splitscreen while playin with other friends online?
Gerwurztraminer @ Feb 20th 2008 1:10PM
Up to 2 local players can go online at the same time.
I don't remember where I read that anymore.

Oh man. I couldn't remember that I read that ON nintendowiifanboy? that's bad...
racecar @ Feb 20th 2008 1:25PM
I'm still ticked about no generic Mii-based character in Brawl. This kind of makes up for it, though.

Is it me, or does those screenshots look like ass?
Jaggies all over the place.
Mr Khan @ Feb 20th 2008 2:28PM
All Wii screenshots look like this. They're probably stills taken off of an HDTV, and freezing upscaled high-def frames does look hideous. Remember the god-awful looking Metroid Prime 3 screens? That game turned out great
My concern is the character models, they look particularly blocky, especially compared to similar characters in Galaxy
Kogen @ Feb 20th 2008 2:43PM
Wow, that looks retarded. Miis work good in stuff like Wii Sports, but not along side actual established characters.
And why do the graphics suck on such a "big" game? Other games have done better by Nintendo.
Matt @ Feb 20th 2008 3:30PM
Yea, I'm concerned about the graphics as well just like everyone else. Thing is, I understand that in a still screenshot, they won't match the fluid motion. But what I'm seeing here is worse than just the difference between stills and motion. I hope they're showing shots from features they had already implemented a while back but have simply been testing as they tweak graphics, etc.
Point is, if it looks like that, I might very well not buy it. (especially without headset compatibility) GameFly, yes. But purchase? It'd be a tough decision. Gotta have some serious gameplay, for that...
Perverted @ Feb 20th 2008 3:18PM
The game sounds great and probably plays great but the graphics = disappointing.......Mainly the Karts/MBs/characters...the backgrounds in general look ok......
Blue Gamer65 @ Feb 20th 2008 7:10PM
haha. can't wait to see Mii on a motorcycle lol it'll be like seeing Bill Gates on a motorcycle lol (yes. sadly i've been told i look like him)
DBuck_Eye @ Feb 20th 2008 9:18PM
This is great. Now if they don't include the decals, we can still make everyone we play with look at a p****...on our face.
