VC Monday Madness: Harvest Moon & Lords of Thunder
Today's Virtual Console offerins are in stark contrast of one another. On the one hand, you have a calm, some would say somber, title like Harvest Moon, where you'll settle for nothing less than having the best farm ever. On the other hand, there's Lords of Thunder, which tasks the player with shooting the crap out of everything on screen.

Oh man! I just bought Guitar Hero III this weekend. I've been obsessed with Tony Hawk Underground 2 for the Gamecube, I still haven't gotten all my stars on Galaxy, and someone just bought Mortal Kombat Armageddon for me as a gift. This morning I was thinking "I hope something doesn't come out for the Virtual Console that I must have." Then I thought "Yeah right, when was the last time that happened?" And then they go and release Harvest Moon!

I think this may be the first time I want all of the offerings on VC. Harvest Moon - farming goodness. Lords of Thunder - one of the few shooting games I ever enjoyed and completed.

All right, Harvest Moon!

Harvest Moon... of course... after I blew all my Wii points last week downloading Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for who knows what reason despite owning Sonic Mega Collection...
Oh well, I'll have to hold off and see what I get for V-day...

Harvest Moon is awesome -- the first night I discovered it, about 10 hours of my life disappeared without a trace. But I have to wonder -- with the dozen or so versions since the first one, has it gotten any better? I've got Rune Factory, which seems like it could be cool, though I haven't been able to sink enough time into it to get to the "fun part" yet. I know there's one or two on GC, and I think they're making a Wii version soon (?), plus PS2, GB/GBA, and all the others... would the SNES original seem a bit bland by comparison?

I loved SNES harvest moon. I have the GBA more friends of mineral town, which is great, except it never ends haha. I haven't played the latest ones, although I know they flesh out the romance side of it a lot which I love so at least in the character respect the later ones are better. As for the farming side? Much more complex and varied but I think the SNES one manages to hold up, since they've all got the same core gameplay.
