Get Brawl and a gallon of soy sauce
Sam's Club, the members-only warehouse store owned by Wal-Mart, is going to start taking preorders of upcoming games. The first game to be tested with this program is Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which will be the reason for a midnight launch party at every store. What a great opportunity to pick up the game immediately and celebrate with ... other Sam's shoppers! Stores will even have a stock of twenty Wiis each.
The awesome part of this (assuming you don't find the prospect of hanging out at Sam's at midnight awesome) is that Sam's will be selling the game for only $44. The other awesome part is that you can get, like, these huge jars of red licorice while you're there.

Are there other stores doing midnight launches? I was thinking of getting it at that time.
Also, on a kind of related note I SHOULD HAVE HAD IT TODAY. SAKURAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!
Tristan @ Feb 10th 2008 12:59PM
Whoa that is impressive that Sams Club is going to start doing this rather than selling the game in exclusive bundle packs with accessories and what nots like usual.
Ping @ Feb 10th 2008 1:16PM
My destiny is secure, I have my SOY SAUCE! :D
Sisyphus @ Feb 10th 2008 1:18PM
lol, I just want this game to come out so I don't have to keep hearing about it. I don't really get the button-mashing appeal of Melee and Brawl looks like more of the same.
Dustin @ Feb 10th 2008 3:04PM
Button mashing is impossible in SSB games. You will lose if you button mash.
Mr Khan @ Feb 10th 2008 3:21PM
Agree. You can insult Smash Bros for a few things, but a button-masher it is not. Arguably, it is the anti-button masher when set against more traditional fighting games
phrozendouja @ Feb 10th 2008 1:35PM
idk about this. i work at sams club overnights and i think it would be a little difficult to have launch parties while we're working....i mean i dont wanna get fired for running over a little gamer with my forklift while im trying to stock stuff...we havn't heard anything about this. its not going to happen.
1UPMASTER @ Feb 10th 2008 1:55PM
my gamestop is doing a midnight launch for proorderers.
Lucky me!
vidGuy @ Feb 10th 2008 2:45PM
I'm going to hold out for a deal like TRU did for Galaxy. As popular as this game is going to be, some store has got to do a $20 giftcard or something to pull in the customers.
Shadow31 @ Feb 11th 2008 11:25AM
I believe Circuit City is giving $10 gift cards with each preorder of Brawl. Good luck finding anything better.
GatorSax2010 @ Feb 10th 2008 3:34PM
That is one of the greatest headlines ever.
Nebinator @ Feb 10th 2008 4:43PM
What about the spoilers? Or the deal at circuit city where you get a $10 coupon for getting brawl?
GatorSax2010 @ Feb 11th 2008 9:29AM
Oh, not the story, just the headline. I just like the idea of pairing Brawl and soy sauce sold in bulk.
Crazylink @ Feb 10th 2008 4:52PM
I only want Soy Sauce if it's from the world of John and Dave.
OTAM @ Feb 10th 2008 5:20PM
Smash Brothers Brawl + a pallet of beef jerky = awesome.
shadowchaoscontrol @ Feb 10th 2008 5:29PM
hope my local gamestop does this, but then again, i probably wouldn't be up long enough
Just_a_guy @ Feb 10th 2008 5:51PM
god da_n you Wallmart!
Jay @ Feb 10th 2008 7:31PM
I prefer Costco myself......but I won't be buying it there either.
As I will be on my way to Florida for spring break I asked my sister (who works at Disney) if she could reserve it at the Gamestop in Orlando and I'll be picking it up when I get there in the afternoon.
Cyantre @ Feb 10th 2008 7:51PM
I'm holding out for a launch event to be announced at the Nintendo World Store in NYC.
mellojoe @ Feb 10th 2008 9:22PM
I'm with phrozendouja on this one. I'm an electronics supervisor at Sam's Club, and this is news to me. I'd take it with a grain of salt.
phrozendouja @ Feb 11th 2008 9:32AM
thanks for the backing mellojoe. i talked to a coach today and they said that they might set up a pod or a small confined area to have the games played but thats even if they do it. it would be a huge distraction for us working at night and people would probably tend to wander off.
mellojoe @ Feb 14th 2008 10:30AM
no prob. If they do do it, I only see them doing it at metro stores. I'm pretty sure they won't be doing it in our town of 50K. It's the worst time of year for retail to spend on extra labor. I call shenanigans on this story!
Michael Sliczniak @ Feb 11th 2008 9:16AM
You will not find any licorice at Sam's be it black, brown, or red. You will find gigantic tasteless tubs of barely edible red plastic though. Taste or 'value' I guess, personally I'd rather eat the toilet paper, hey it's even cheaper and more fiber too.
MoFro @ Feb 11th 2008 9:30AM
This sounds sweet - if they let us do the reservation online, then we can use our $10 Wal-Mart gift cards from the pre-order debacle last month. =D
Lars @ Feb 11th 2008 4:29PM
Pick up SSBB and a Wii you can sell on eBay for twice the price!
Doktor Moo @ Feb 24th 2008 4:05PM
Thanks for the headline and all of the feedback. Full disclosure, I am the Buyer for Sam's Club Video Games. This will happen in ALL US clubs. We are VERY excited about this event. We have big plans for this and if it resonates with our Members, we can try it again and again.
@ Mello and Phrozen - Feel free to give me a call in the office or e-mail me if you have questions or concerns as you both work for Sam's Club. Very specific direction is coming via the WIRE in the next week or two. Flyers were just approved by Marketing (Sam's) and Nintendo. We want to ensure that everyone is fired up about this. I personally presented this to all club Management at the Kansas City meeting. We know it will be huge.
