Fault! Sega Superstars Tennis to lack online play
Sega Superstars Tennis' joyful habit of meshing together franchises such as Jet Set Radio, Samba de Amigo, Space Channel 5, and OutRun has already left us smitten with the game, even though it's just tennis.
Indeed, our extreme fondness for the title meant it only hurt more to hear that this celebration of Sega awesomeness would not have online play in the Wii version. The sad news was casually revealed in an IGN preview of the title, though we had our suspicions back when the game was announced. We'd gladly exchange the one noteworthy perk of the Wii version -- multiple control schemes -- for a chance to face down fellow Beat fans from other continents.

Online isn't a selling point for me but with this game it is and the fact that the 360 + ps3 get it and the fact that we will probably have a very weak graphical offering and by the looks of it bad controls.....Sorry Sega you tried a bit harder than usual but failed like always.
No online = no sale.

Again, Wii owners get shafted. This is turning into a bit of a pattern, and the complete opposite of what we expected in 2008. We gave companies the benefit of the doubt with no online during the first year of Wii, but now they're still releasing games without it.
Smash has online which is great, but no leaderboards or chat?
MoH:H2 in Aussie and NZ has had the online REMOVED completely!
Now this.
Ever since mid last year I've been saying that if things didn't improve I'd have to buy another console. I waited and waited, but finally I wasn't getting the online and other features I wanted from Wii so I went and got a PS3. Now that's money in games for Nintendo lost and if a title comes out that's on the PS3 and the Wii it's almost impossible that I'd buy a Wii version. Why buy it when the graphics will be worse, and the online will be lacklustre or non-existent.
This is really starting to get on my nerves and I can see my Wii becoming unused. In fact it hasn't been out of the box I packed it in for Christmas with the family.

Omg! no online is this random Sega game?! *throws Wii away*
Leeroy @ Feb 9th 2008 9:42PM
My thoughts exactly AzaMcWazza, I've all but given up with Wii online, been a huge disappointment, good job it's free as I wouldn't even pay a turd for it TBH.
I still blame Nintendo who are too busy counting their money to realise they need to get a proper online structure worked out, with some kind on console registered friends lists and the option for voice comms between those friends via a headset. Most developers seem clearly don't take Wii online seriously and I think is the reason they don't bother spending any time working on it.
Another game I'll be buying on the 360 then, yes I do have friends(that I go to the pubs with) but I also happen to have alot more gaming friends that I play regularly online who live miles away. Nintendo seem to think we all have massive living rooms and all our family & friends want to come around & play*slaps head*
Mr Khan @ Feb 9th 2008 2:24PM
meh, it still has Amigo. It would have to do worse than that to dissuade me (aside from the fact that i don't have the time in my gaming schedule to buy it)
xeleion @ Feb 9th 2008 3:02PM
No online play? But... I was going to buy it if it had online play...
What a fail this is.
Cyantre @ Feb 9th 2008 3:07PM
No online play... on a Nintendo console... shocker! *sarcasm*
capt.strugglebunny @ Feb 9th 2008 3:13PM
Well, the online would probably be a pain in the ass with friend codes and no way to communicate with other players (which would be very helpful in a double tennis game) so blah.
Plus, has Sega put out anything worth purchasing since the Dreamcast days?
Buntaro @ Feb 9th 2008 3:33PM
I hate long list replies because the can come of as arrogant, but what about Panzer Dragoon Orta, Billy Hatcher, Monkey Ball games (not counting Mini game modes), all their racing games, Virtua Tennis, Virtua Fighter series, Ghost Squad, the new NiGHTS or all Sonic games after Sonic the Hedgehog 2006?
capt.strugglebunny @ Feb 9th 2008 3:45PM
I guess you're right. But none of those games really caught my eye. Sega used to have a really cool style that would get you excited about a game before you even played it.
I remember being really excited about Space Channel 5, Shenmue, Crazy Taxi, and Jet Set/Grind Radio before I even laid a finger on them. Now I see Sega games and I think "whatever". Although I did really enjoy the first Monkey Ball.
Maybe its just me and I'm being unfair and not giving the games a chance, but meh.
I'll be here in the corner waiting for my last 7 chapters of Shenmue :(.
capt.strugglebunny @ Feb 9th 2008 3:16PM
Being a life long Nintendo fan, I never thought I'd pine for the Sega of the mid-90s through 2002. That little Dreamcast changed me.. :(
Mr Khan @ Feb 9th 2008 3:53PM
Saturn and Dreamcast were awesome. Totally made up for the off-putting cocky attitude they assumed in the Genesis days
Nigeria @ Feb 11th 2008 7:56AM
Khan,
actually the Mega Drive (genesis) and Saturn were awesome.
The Dreamcast was so overrated for some reason. Maybe it was due to it being Sega's last console so people have developed a certain nostalgia for it. A nostalgia undeserved. Because I remember playing Sonic Adventure 1: it was underwhelming.
Jumbo @ Feb 9th 2008 4:21PM
Who really cares about online play?
Don't people have friends?
Tom @ Feb 9th 2008 7:02PM
I'm not getting this game regardless of online (Tennis is retarded in real life, even moreso in a videogame) but sometimes people have friends with different opinions than them with what they like to play. I for one know of nobody who wants this game, even though I think it looks stupid. Okay, bad example! Still, online is cool to match wit/skills with other human beings, even when you can't have friends over, or have firends who don't like a particular genre.
Anyways, this game=FAIL. This game w/o online= EPIC FAIL.
schmix @ Feb 10th 2008 5:34AM
I really start asking myself why they treat online gaming on the Wii like that. Is it because the service is free and xbox live is not? Do PSN users pay for the online service? What is the reason behind this??? I don't get, there must be some kind of conspiracy going on...
Jonathan Tran @ Feb 11th 2008 11:41AM
This just went from probably buy to no buy.
I mean, seriously, even if it just had random unranked online play... even NiGHTS has this kind of play.
And yes people have friends, but some people have jobs/school/families and can only play some days at night or in the morning, and don't want to be vs CPUs.
