Yoot Saito building a Tower on DS
Before he was making games about historical pinball battles and sarcastic fish monsters, Vivarium's Yoot Saito created a skyscraper-building game called SimTower. He put the same kind of quirky, bizarre charm into what seems like a run-of-the-mill Sim game as he did Seaman, leading to a game in which you can read every resident's thoughts as they ride elevators.Saito followed SimTower with a PC sequel called Yoot Tower, and a Game Boy Advance version called The Tower SP that, sadly, didn't get released until 2006. Now, according to a blog post, he's working on a version for a current system -- the DS. The Tower's vertical orientation is a perfect match for the DS's unique aspect ratio, we think. He's hoping to have the game out before summer.

Wunderbar, I need a replacement for SimTower, a game I can no longer run on any of my current PCs or laptops.

Sim Tower is my all-time favorite Sim game, and I was lucky enough to find a copy of The Tower SP when it was new. Given that I already have a portable version of the game, I can't help wondering if I actually want the DS version. Hmmmmm...

While playing SimTower I named all the little people and came up with the idea for a game like The Sims, unfortunately I was only 13 at the time and had no idea how to make a video game, and I still don't...oh well.
Yay for a new game!

Simtower was awesome.
Though admittedly I was a kid at the time, and my tower turned to crap after I got a second lobby going on the higher floor.

I've played a lot of SimTower over the years. It's still an enjoyable game, but I do wish there was more depth to it. A lot of things aren't nearly as customizable as you'd expect from a SimGame. I haven't played the sequel; maybe those things were addressed. Here's hoping the DS version is more than just a port of the old one, and that we can finally get a full realization of tower simulation gameplay (rather than the demo the old game felt like at times).

Keep in mind that SimTower started out as an elevator simulator, and the game concept was tacked on later. Hopefully the new DS version will be a little more in-depth than the original (which I loved anyway).
