Girl Gamer magazine thinks it's still the 1950s

Attention female readers of DS Fanboy! You know how you're ALWAYS thinking about nothing else but pink things, cooking, and raising cute ickle babies? Well, Nintendo is, like, TOTALLY on your wavelength! The company has just teamed up with publisher Future to launch gaming magazine Girl Gamer in the UK, and it won't cost you a penny, meaning you can save for those divine shoes that you just have to have or you'll die.The 32-page magazine is being given away with the latest copies of Bliss and Mizz, two of the UK's most popular girl's titles, and is yet further evidence that Nintendo is completely in touch with female gamers. Just look at the cover: pink things? Check! Cooking? Check! Babies? Check!

This is completely laughable. Being a girl gamer I really hate this type of pandering. I like Cooking Mama, but I really love me some Etrian Odyssee. They can take that magazine and shove it.

I agree completely. I'm a girl gamer, have been for years, and I hate this sort of BS. First off, I hate pink, and while Cooking Mama was ok, I don't eat sleep and breath it. Lately I've been playing Bioshock and DMC 4, not Harvest moon or cooking mama and junk like that. How does that fit in with Nintendo stereotypes, huh?

Maybe the 10 year old variety of Vagina. I don't know any woman over the age of 13 who obsesses over the color pink, raising babies, and cooking. As a matter of fact, a lot of them are having enough stress over their own kids or despise cooking b/c they have to do it for their families OR they avoided the family scenario for the time being because they are not interested in those things yet (or at all).
So, um, yeah, stereotyping for the lose.

I'm a girl gamer and here are the things I dislike:
-Cooking
-Babies (children included)
-Pink
That being said, this sort of magazine would fly well in Japan so maybe they thought the next logical step would be to open it to the rest of the world. They probably just don't realize it's actually considered offensive out here! But hey, it's free so.... meh.

I don't know, I'm 18 years old and I'm obsessed with the color pink/love babies/like (read as learning) to cook. That being said, I also think SIM games are retarded and I'll take a good old fighting game any day.

All you people spazzing out about this--check out the magazines this comes with. In fact, let me quote from the website of one of them:
"Our fab freebie this fortnight is a double lip gloss in girly pinks and subtle oranges. It comes in a cute tin, designed especially by our cool mizz art team! This isn't being aimed at women, or even mature younger girls--it's aimed at young girly girls who DO like makeup and crushes and baking and babies and pink things. With that in mind, this seems perfectly suitable for that audience.
So, basically, it's not FOR you.

Totally agree with Ben on this one. Look at the magazine's this mini-magazine comes with. They are girly girl magazines. not hardcore gamer magazines!
Nintendo is clearly trying to pander to the market that already reads these magazines, not to females who already play video games.
Look at this site, I'm pretty sure they aren't speaking to the same girls who frequent this site.

Female gamer here. Sure, Cooking Mama was fun to spend time on, but I didn't buy my DS for it. More like FF3, EO, Phoenix Wright, Trauma Center. Oh joy for stereotypes that always bring a smile to my face. =)

Another girl gamer here. And I agree with Shinshoko: I do like *girly* games such as Cooking Mama or Animal Crossing. But that doesn't prevent me from playing other more *boyish* games that I enjoy the same - or even more. And magazines like this don't seem to get the point. Whatever!

OK..so after I read and re-read this and drank a bottle of Pepto Bismol I had to write SOMETHING. I want to KILL Nintendo for this idea. I NEVER liked pink, deep, dark red rocks my world of color, and although I'm thrilled when others have them, babies haven't entered my life (and at my age, won't) and I gave up cooking two husbands ago and bless my freezer and microwave every day. I gotta give OGHC a heads up on this if they haven't seen it yet and hear what SHE has to say about this *rolls eyes*

Oh, and to add to this, my hubby has found he's getting a kic out of AC:WW and has watched me play, and given advice, on Diner Dash (which I play on my cell or PC only so far). He also compliments me on my playing abilities with my high level fighter in the MMO we both play since he never could get the hang of playing a fighter tank (although he rocks as a battlemage). The day of stereotypes is long gone and I hate, just HATE seeing something like this promoting it.

My DS Lite is a beautiful onyx, and I will never touch Cooking Mama or make-up. But I will never watch the Super Bowl either. I'm just not in such things. It doesn't mean that I have to be insulted or offended by all the people who hype up the Super Bowl -- or by those who hype up "girly girls" and pinkery. So, whatever. I have to admit that pink things do seem to appeal to some other girls out there, and they have as much right to spend their money on their pink DS as I do on my black one. And, as long as they're spending money in that way, Nintendo has every right to capitalize on it. I don't see any reason to mock it.
I simply choose to not buy either their pinkery or your mockery of it.

This scares me. As a girl I would never read that trash! I doubt boys and girls need separate gaming magazines. They seem to cater to both audiences for the most part in most gaming magazines to me. Not for me!

*shudder* I think I'm going to be violently ill.... I mean it! That man dressed like a girl form the 50's will be in my nightmares! This does look pitiful, but I can see how it's aimed at a younger audience. However, pertaining to mature women not caring about pink things, my Algebra teacher ( really fat, really ugly, treats us like we're little kids, tlks to us like we're little kids, etc) loves anything and everything pink. She's got a pink iPod, pink posters, pink clothes for pretty much anything, pink makeup, and she wears tight pink sweaters. And she's fat. So, these two (wo)men will be haunting my nightmares. Thanks a lot, DS Fanboy. Glad you guys care about my sanity.

Another girl gamer here.
No matter what age group this is supposedly aimed at (whatever that thing is on the cover looks like its middle aged,) it's still disturbing and offensive. When I was a kid, I wasn't squealing over babies and cooking. If I was a tween now, I would think this magazine was for my mother.
I hope this things gets flushed down the toilet, because it's a piece of VAPID SHIT. c:

Aimed for girls under the age of ten? Still don't think that'll cut it. Most of my friend's daughters are Smash Bros. junkies. The 8yr old girl of a close friend of mine is a huge Nintendo fan and even liked the pink DS (but got a PSP instead), but even she would gag at this.
