Details and snapshots from Fatal Frame IV
Months after announcing a new installment to its survival-horror/photography game, Tecmo unveiled a two-minute CG trailer for Fatal Frame IV (Rei: Tsukihami no Kame) and discussed a few specifics behind the spooky title. The video hasn't yet been released, but you can peek at screen grabs from the movie in the gallery below.
According to series producer Keisuke Kikuchi, the game's "image color" will be yellow, and the words "memory," "moon," and "mask" will be recurring themes. That's not much to go on, but we still have months before Fatal Frame IV's expected summer release in Japan.
Tecmo has teamed up with studio Grasshopper Manufacture (No More Heroes, Killer 7) for Fatal Frame IV's development, bringing in Goichi Suda (!) to help direct the game along with Makoto Shibata. Surprisingly, Nintendo will handle production, publishing, and promotion. What an interesting mix!

Neat! Suda's involved? I'm suddenly interested! It's nice he's still employable after the NMH Japan bomb. :)
Mr Khan @ Jan 30th 2008 2:17PM
NMH bombing was out of his hands though. If anything, the blame there would fall on Marvelous Entertainment or Spike, or the simple fact that the game was brilliantly niche, and so it was virtually doomed to sell bad
Lovin' every moment of it (spoilers) Holly blowing her own head off in defeat was awesome (end spoilers)

ACK! I READ THE SPOILER!! WHY WHY AM I BARELY RANKED #9!? I have to quit my job and start assassinatin'!

yeah, I'm not the fastest reader in the world but I still skim parentheticals... Thanks...
If you feel the need to drop spoilers about something, try a little harder not to ruin it for the rest of us...

Wow, Sudi51, Nintendo, and others? This game may turn out to be pretty good. I've never been a fan of the Fatal Frame series, but this one may be worth a try.

I'm suddenly much more excited for this game, and I was already looking forward to it.
zelderman @ Jan 30th 2008 11:53AM
sounds tasty.
Buntaro @ Jan 30th 2008 12:10PM
I hate to admit that I never played a Fatal Frame/Project Zero game.
Anyway, with no "real" Resident Evil or any Silent Hill game coming to the Wii, I'll keep an eye on this.
Am I right in assuming that they are using pre-rendered backgrounds?
hvnlysoldr @ Jan 30th 2008 1:35PM
I love how Nintendo promises to heavily promote the mature game.

Now that I know Suda will have something to do with this, my excitement went up like 100%! And I was already looking forward to it because I played the last one.
Rocketboy @ Jan 30th 2008 2:11PM
Awesome! Awesome! If Suda's involved, the only thing I need to know is when can I preorder.
Mr Khan @ Jan 30th 2008 2:19PM
Fatal Frame has always been some freaky shit, moreso i always felt than Resident Evil (i find things with a scientific explanation to be inherently less scary, ghost stories like Fatal Frame have always gotten to me more)
Goichi Suda is only going to make it better
HellsHammer @ Jan 30th 2008 3:06PM
Fatal Frame is a great series. I would love to see a new game for Wii!

With goichi suda helping and the marketing of Nintendo we have something good(hopefully) that will sell! And it's not mini-games, it'll be a miracle.
