VC Tuesday: Japan wins at having VC games

Sometimes, we can't help but compare the Japanese Virtual Console releases to the American ones. In some cases, they're about equal in quantity (which, lately, means low). Not this week. In the U.S. we got one game. Japan? Four. And one of them is Phantasy Star II. We desperately wish that we could say this marks a return to 2007-level release density, but we really can't predict that. Next Monday and Tuesday could roll around and drop one game on us again. Let's just try to be optimistic!Anyway, Phantasy Star II is really awesome. It's a beautiful futuristic RPG that is totally worth eight bucks (if you don't have a PS2). It makes us sad that Sega isn't really doing much in the way of RPGs these days.
We certainly wouldn't mind seeing Super R-Type, either.
- Mappy (Famicom, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points)
- Super R-Type (Super Famicom, 1 player, 800 Wii Points)
- Phantasy Star II (Mega Drive, 1 player, 700 Wii Points)

Yes! Hope lives for the Phantasy Star Series in the States! Now I must make the decision between waiting for Phantasy Star II or using my 800 Wii Points on LoZ:LttP as I had planned. Decisions, decisions...

Too bad SoA's forgotten that PS ever existed, besides worthless PSUniverse. The Playstation 2 SEGA AGES all look soooo awesome. Not fair.
No reason at least the VC version won't come out here.
Every RPG fan check out PSII -- that game is so amazing and ahead of its time. Is it the first console RPG where a major party member dies? I really wish THE FUTURE would have become the staple RPG setting instead of fantasty medievalland, too.

I was honestly expecting Mother 2 to drop in out of nowhere what with the demo of it being in Brawl. Then you really really could have said Japan wins at having Virtual Console games.

Um, since they announced that they would be offering TurboGrafx-CD games around Fall of last year. PC Engine is what they call the TurboGrafx-16 in Japan. Therefore, PC Engine CD-ROM = TurboGrafx-CD

I'm actually playing Phantasy Star II on my r4 right now! I may have owned the game at some point in my life so it's legal, right? Nevermind, I'm not playing it or anything for that matter!

Love the Phantasy Star Series. I don't think I ever got around to beating PS II...it's really difficult.

It might be worth 8 bucks.
Then again, if you have a PSP, you can find Sega Genesis Collection for about 20$ (Canadian) - and that has Phantasy Star II, III, and IV on it, amongst a tonne of other old Genesis games.
So if you have a PSP and really love Phantasy Star, consider that option first; it'll be cheaper in the long run.
