Nintendo says Kirby, Animal Crossing, Super Mario Stadium this year
Nintendo of Japan just released a statement of their financial results (PDF link here) for the period from April to December of last year (spoilers: they did well) which includes a list of projected 2008 releases. Unlike the actual financial results, this bit contains some surprises! Seen above is the list for Japan.
Both Animal Crossing and some kind of new Kirby game have general "2008" release dates, as does a thankfully still-planned Disaster: Day of Crisis. Also basically new is Super Mario Stadium Family Baseball, a game about which we've heard absolutely nothing since October, and not really anything then, either. We're also quite happy to see Mario Kart Wii planned for a spring release in the U.S. and Japan, and a Q2 release in Europe.

The only real surpises are
A: They're attempting to maintain the delusion that Mario Kart Wii will actually make it by June (absolute last month of spring)
B: Kirby Wii, a game they previously confirmed to be dead, has now gotten a new breath of hope
We knew animal crossing was inevitable. Early previews of the Wii Message Boards featured messages from that game

Was there much of a gap between the release of the GameCube AC here and in Japan? It seems with all the subtle text translations that needs to be done that the U.S. WiiAC might come out a bit later than in Japan. Tell me I'm wrong, please.
Croove55 @ Jan 29th 2008 3:30PM
Actually, over there the original AC came out for the Nintendo 64. They eventually got an upgrade to the GC as well, but it had been on the market for over a year in Japan before it came to the U.S.

Why is Metroid Prime 3 on this list? I thought it came out already. Am I missing something?
Nate @ Jan 29th 2008 3:20PM
It already came out in the US, but not Japan

I think this is the list for Japan. I don't think Metroid has come out there yet. Battalion Wars 2 is also listed and that came out in the end of October here in the states.

Damn you Blogsmith!! Damn you and your Kirby-incompatible ways!
Pizza Pasta @ Jan 29th 2008 7:27PM
Were you trying to upload a photograph of Kirby?
Croove55 @ Jan 29th 2008 8:41PM
I was trying to make the little ASCII Kirby Dance, but the angle brackets cancel out whatever is inside them, because of the way HTML works. Blogsmith's comment system doesn't have code set up to cancel out HTML inside of the posts (well, it cancels actual formatting from working, but it doesn't leave the code in the post).
Since the "smiley face" kirby dance uses angle brackets to show kirby's arms, it counts anything between the left pointing bracket and the right pointing bracket as code, and removes it.
This is an example of what I was trying to type. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Kirby+Dance
Obviously some of it got through, but not the whole thing. Anyway, there's your ridiculous forum meme lesson for the day.
Sonic_13 @ Jan 29th 2008 3:50PM
yay Disaster! I have been looking forward to that game ever since it was announced during that glorious E3 keynote!
I am also looking forward to getting:
Wii Fit
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Metroid Prime 3 (as soon as I finish MP2)
and Mario Kart.
Also Dr. Mario for WiiWare and Advance Wars Days of Ruin for DS.
I'm not sure about Animal Crossing. I'll have to see the features and benefits of the Wii version before I make my decision.
