Just recently, I opened up a game box, as I was planning to lend
Hotel Dusk to a friend ... and it wasn't there. Now, I've a bad habit of leaving my DS carts lying about, all scattered and free, but they're usually somewhere on my desk. This is the first time I've not been able to find one, however, after a quick, frantic search underneath unfiled papers and beneath the pen case. The dilemma (and the tears that followed) led me to ask: have you found yourself in a similar situation? Did you later find the games? Give a girl some hope here. Those carts are
awfully small ....

I lost starfox once.
I found it down the gap between pillows on the couch.
DS games are thankfully pretty hardy.
Brello @ Jan 29th 2008 11:49AM
Yeah same, except with Waverace 64.
Alisha Karabinus @ Jan 29th 2008 3:50PM
I keep hoping this one's in a drawer somewhere... I have so many cabinets and things in here and maybe I just tucked it away. Or a cat got it.
It could be anywhere!

I lost my AC:WW about 2 years ago. I tried looking everywhere in my room, 'cause that was where I last remember seeing it. I never found it and I'm still searching. I think it probably fell into the air vent since it's so small.
Synergistic @ Jan 29th 2008 9:37AM
I still haven't found my Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow.
Oh well, I got Symphony of the Night for XBLA and barring an EMP I won't lose that. I also got Portrait of Ruin, which wasn't half bad.
Phil @ Jan 29th 2008 9:32AM
I lost Meteos once. I have absolutely no idea where it went, because it vanished out of my DS. I ended up re-buying it.
Lupe @ Jan 29th 2008 9:36AM
I never lose mine because I take one game out of 6 game case (Nintendo brand) holder and replace that empty slot with the one I took out of my system. I'm afraid I won't have to worry about that for a while though as I can't see myself leaving Days of Ruin for a while ^.^
Nrvnqsr @ Jan 29th 2008 9:48AM
I've managed to misplace just about every single one of my DS carts at least once so far cos they're so small, but the only one that hasn't turned up was Ping Pals which came free with my first DS and admittedly wasn't worth much anyway. ^_^;;
Now I keep them all in their boxes in a neat pile on a shelf so I don't lose them when I'm not playing them.
Saxon @ Jan 29th 2008 10:22AM
My dog ate my copies of New SMB and Brain Age... does that count?
Don Simon @ Jan 29th 2008 3:29PM
What happend to dog? :-)
Saxon @ Jan 29th 2008 3:44PM
It didn't make him smarter, if that's what you're implying. He does have trouble saying "blue," though.
TX2Step @ Jan 29th 2008 10:41AM
Nice... glad to see the game was found near a Cold Wars Kids CD. :D
Alisha Karabinus @ Jan 29th 2008 1:32PM
It wasn't, though! That's a stand-in! Hotel Dusk is nowhere to be found, waaaah.
Clandaith @ Jan 29th 2008 10:41AM
MY oldest son lost ALL my DS games once. We were on a road trip and he was playing my DS. We got out of the van for a break and when we drove off, he noticed that the case holding all my games was missing. Instead of him telling us then, he waited 3 hours to tell us.
I was furious because he didn't tell us right then.
But, it ended up the case was still in the van, under a seat.
JC Fletcher @ Jan 29th 2008 10:41AM
I found my copy of Ouendan 2 on the floor in my closet. I didn't even realize it was missing.
Frastoglegnia @ Jan 29th 2008 10:49AM
While I've never lost a cart, I've certainly misplaced a few in my time (c-r-e-a-k!). The secret, I think, is to get in the habit of never leaving a cart unsheathed. That way, you know you've put the missing game inside one of your cases; it's always a question of which.
Another thing that helps: to limit your active games to those that can be held by your carrying case and then to keep the case close. I have an Aero case, which holds three games, and a Waterfield case, which holds two (as well as the charger cable!). When I carry the Aero case, I restrict myself to four games; when it's the Waterfield, three. I make it a practice never to place a game on the table or anywhere else. After all, I live in New York City, and games can be stolen as easily as lost.
Andy @ Jan 29th 2008 10:50AM
I lost the Prime Hunters Demo and never found it again
Hideaki @ Jan 29th 2008 11:07AM
I lost my DS lite and the games in my pouch just the other day. Went to the toilet cubicles .. put my DS on top of the toilet roll dispenser and totally forgot about it when i left. Too bad I only realised my lost when I got home .. if only I hadn't been so careless ...
Tom @ Feb 12th 2008 10:12AM
You were playing your DS...In a public bathroom? Wouldn't people question your cries of anguish as the New Rubinelle Army crushed your puny forces as you try and lead stupid AI away from death, only to have them walk straight into it's gaping jaws!?!?! (Okay, maybe that's just me...)
Anyways, I keep all of my games in a 6 game holder thing. However, I did misplace my copy of Metroid Prime Hunters. I don't care what other's think of that game, I love it! So, after combing my entire room (a vERY scary thing to do. I was afraid for my life!) I went downstairs also on the verge of tears, to get lunch. I then went down to the basement, and there it was. Lying right next to my Wii. So, I practically killed myself trying to find a game, when it was lying in plain sight...
ThekonamiMan @ Jan 29th 2008 11:32AM
I am very very very anal when it comes to my games and their cases. I always make sure I put the game back into the correct case when I'm done with it and make sure to put the case with the rest of my games.
TheCoats @ Jan 29th 2008 11:46AM
well one time i was eating a bag of chips and playing DS and i switched games and low and behold i lost the game i took out........then it hit me.......those games are small.......I know what happened.........i found it a few days later in a very bad place and decided it wasn't worth it......so i flushed
this is not an actual occurence.......any simularities are merely coincidence
Very Metal @ Jan 29th 2008 11:47AM
Final Fantasy III & Touch Detective went missing...never to be found...
Brello @ Jan 29th 2008 11:54AM
Super Mario Land 2 has been missing for years now. I want to play through it again, too. No idea where it could have gone since it's either in the cinder block game boy, or in the case with all my other GB games. Why couldn't it have been Kirby's Dream Land?
jabby @ Jan 29th 2008 6:31PM
I lost my copy of Pokemon Pearl...I really hope it turns up soon...
Tyler @ Jan 29th 2008 12:02PM
I accidentally lost my copy of Tales of Phantasia. It fell out of my game case on my way to a car. A buddy of mine found it several days later and told me where it was.
Roto13 @ Jan 29th 2008 12:20PM
If it doesn't want to be found, call Ed and have him send Hyde over. :P Side business and all that.
Gil @ Jan 29th 2008 12:29PM
I lost my R4DS cart, but I've lost tons of games and end up finding them somewhere obscure, like the fridge!
Alisha Karabinus @ Jan 29th 2008 3:50PM
I can't resist it...
I guess they were just chillin?
CDog @ Jan 29th 2008 12:41PM
I lost 200+ hours of hard work when Final Fantasy III, Mario Kart, Pokemon Pearl, and AW:DS fell out of my case on an airplane.
Now I have a much better case and only travel with an M3 DS Real and backup my saves religiously (and YES I own everything I play).
JSmooth @ Jan 29th 2008 1:20PM
I bought my gf a DS (actually I went to Canada and bought myself a crimson DS and let her have my old one). She lost my copy of Brain Age some where in our room. I'm hoping it will show up sooner or later :(
SmileyDude @ Jan 29th 2008 1:32PM
I just picked up a R4 from a friend who had two, and I've moved all my games over to it instead -- sure beats carrying 40 DS games around with me all the time.
I really hope that Nintendo gets around to offering a better way to distribute games on their handheld systems for the next generation -- considering that a 2G microSD can hold 40 DS games along with the saves, the carts certainly have no technical reason to be as large they are -- only that they would be easier to lose if they were smaller. If the successor to the DS had 4GB or more of built in storage with a way to buy games online, it would go a long way to solving the lost game problem, and probably a good chunk of the piracy problem too.
evan @ Jan 29th 2008 2:15PM
I accidentally left 9 of my favorite games on a plane when frantically trying to make connections over the holidays. To replace them i wound up buying an R4, so that i'll never loose my games again.
Hirsbrunner @ Jan 29th 2008 2:41PM
I lost 3 games at once, still haven't found them.
I had them in once of those 3 game snap-close DS cases.
The games I lost are:
ELECTROPLANKTON
MegaMan ZX
Elite Beat Agents
I'm most upset about losing ELECTROPLANKTON b/c I can't find that game anywhere now, unless I want to pay $70 & up, which I don't.
Deozaan @ Jan 29th 2008 3:06PM
I haven't lost any games because I keep them in their case or in the DS.
But I have fallen asleep with my DS and lost my stylus for a couple days in/around my bed.
roblef @ Jan 29th 2008 3:57PM
Want to trade for my Hotel Dusk? Got any games you WANT to lose? :)
Alisha Karabinus @ Jan 30th 2008 1:51AM
Hey, maybe! Oh, wait, only one I haven't got a case for. Lost that, too.
I'm pretty much filled with fail, I think.
Matdredalia @ Jan 29th 2008 4:01PM
I've lost actual cartridges, as well as several of those grey "sticks" that they make that hold 3 cartridges. It usually takes me a few days, but I inevitably find them after much frantic searching and panic. However, I've gotten more anal retentive about keeping my games in one safe little spot. I found the perfect little box to stash them in when I'm not keeping them in my purse, thankfully.
Good luck finding Hotel Dusk. I'm sure you'll find it soon.
Sakura3210 @ Jan 29th 2008 4:45PM
I learned my lesson after losing my GBA games for about 3 years (I had put them in an old box for "safekeeping" and completely forgotten). After that nightmare, I bought a DS game case that holds all of my games, and which I keep in the same place in my room. Haven't lost a game since!
Zis @ Jan 29th 2008 6:47PM
Maybe you've lend it to someone?
My flatmate thought he had lost his Yoshi's Universal Gravitation. We were searching everywhere but couldn't find it.
Then I remembered that he had lend it to a friend over a year ago and she just forgot about it, because she had put it into a case to protect it while she wasn't playing it.
So yay, we got it back. :-)
A friend of mine was playing with his DS on my old black couch. He paused and took a sip of his coke, and when he wanted to start playing again (like, 30 seconds later) his black stylus was gone. We were looking for it everywhere, removed all the pillows of the couch, looked under it, on the floor, the table - EVERYWHERE - and we couldn't find it. I tried it again a few days later and some weeks afterwards for several times, but it was no use. The stylus had disappeared...
Two months ago I wanted to get rid of the couch eventually (it stood in my room for months, side upwards, all pillows removed, because I got a new one) and I brought it downstairs. I decided to look for the stylus one last time, and tadaaaaa, there it was, pressed into the stuffing I had checked almost 20 times before...
So, ask your friends if maybe you have lend it to one of them, and if they don't have it neither maybe you should check all the nice, cozy places you sit when playing the DS.
Friends don't forget games on purpose, but I'm sure couches do - they're all evil. ;-)
dreamparacite @ Jan 29th 2008 6:52PM
Ever since you guys mentioned the C.A.G cart case, I haven't lost one! Not that I did before, mind you, I keep my games in my DS, the case my DS is always in, or their game cases. It's my BROTHER who leaves his ds carts lying around...heck, he doesn't use his DS anymore, really. D:
nunix @ Jan 29th 2008 7:38PM
I'm with the previous poster on the R4. Until such time as Nintendo gives us a portable with a hard drive, I'm going to continue using 3rd party "questionable" solutions like this. The convenience -cannot- be beat, and you get easy-to-run homebrew in the bargain.
Salty Soil @ Jan 29th 2008 10:20PM
I thought I lost my Chocobo Tales. At the time I had certain games in their cases and others in multi-card cases. Took me a panicked hour to realize it was in the latter :(
jja1990 @ Jan 30th 2008 12:04AM
I lost one game. New Super Mario Bros. Unfortunately, I never found it. I didn't find the DS it was in either. They ran of together and I never saw them again. It sucked.
munjey @ Jan 30th 2008 3:19PM
I lost my DS with Brain Age in it about a week and a half ago. Spent two days straight searching for it after work; checked everywhere in my apartment and in my car about 3 times. Just before I was about to buy another one after going crazy for wanting to play so bad, I thoroughly searched under the seats and found it wedged between the passenger seat and the floor in a weird position.
I don't know what I would do if I lost a Pokémon game. I have well over 1,000 hours collectively between all my games.
A friend of mine also had his car broken into and all of his GBA games and his system were gone for good a few years back. I felt bad for him, so I bought a new DS lite and let him have my old DS with a few GBA games to borrow.
Losing stuff sucks.
ArmorForVictor @ Jan 30th 2008 4:33PM
the only game i lost was metroid zero mission for my gba. i lost it on a trip to mexico and a year later when my sister was being born in the hospital i found it in the case that i carried my gba in. it was in the little back space thats meant for a strap to go in. i couldn't believe what an idiot i was not feeling it there :(
Myth @ Jan 30th 2008 11:00PM
I have owned no less than four copies of the first Fire Emblem on the GBA. I purchased it shortly after a friend gave me a used GBA for Christmas, the main reason for the gift was so I would stop playing his copy of Fire Emblem. It was promptly lost in my dad's truck that Christmas break.
Figuring it had fallen out of the truck at a gas station or some such, I gave up and purchased a second copy. A year and a half later, my mother finds the first cart in the truck and gives it back to me. Having no need, so I thought, for a second cart I gave it to a friend in an attempt to lure him into the goodness that is Fire Emblem. Six months after that, my apartment was robbed and my GBA with all my games were taken.
As I was rebuilding my library with a new DS Lite (whee! reason to upgrade) my girlfriend bought me a used copy of the game (this makes three). Alas, the cart was busted and wouldn't load one of the levels. In a moment of supreme kindness and pity, the friend who gave me a GBA so I would stop playing his Fire Emblem gave me that same copy of the game.

Not a single DS game to be found, thanks to my brother and my nephew.
