Wii Warm Up: How many delays?
Looks like GameStop (where they never met a preorder they didn't like) has begun taking orders for Mario Kart Wii and claims that, right now, it's looking like April for the game. But that's not really what we wanted to talk about; it just got us thinking about something else, a real question. How many times do you think Mario Kart will be delayed?
Yeah, we're being a little cheeky here. We love you, Nintendo, but let's face it -- you guys sometimes delay games. And it's cool. We want them to be nice and polished and pretty. But that doesn't mean we won't slyly lay some side bets on how many delays we'll suffer. So come on, throw out some numbers. Twice? Three times?

I'm betting on November of 2008, as Nintendo really doesn't have any big titles to fill the consumers' Q4 needs
I believe Double Dash was November of 2003, as well, so it would fit in neatly
Brett @ Jan 25th 2008 10:34AM
Yeah, I'm thinking October or November, so probably one or two delays to get us there. I'd be on just one, since Nintendo should have to foresight after the Brawl delays to announce as few delays as possible, and pad their estimates more.
saylorsgang @ Jan 25th 2008 9:14AM
I would'nt be suprised if we don't see Mario Kart till the holidays, I think it will be their must have christmas gift.

You know just thinking.... the Wii Steering Wheel. They should make a second trigger under the right hand side just liek the one for the B button under the left hand side. That way right trigger is gas and left trigger is hop/power slide.
Yes I know there's no other button under the remote there like there is with the B button. But to get around that, make the steering wheel a plug in attachment like the GH3 guitar, that way it can be a stand alone button. That would greatly separate the Nintendo branded wheel from third party "shells".

I think that's an excellent idea

Thank you!

I optimist in me thinks we'll see two delays and the game is released in June. But really, it wouldn't shock me if I wasn't playing this until November.

What's the over/under on this? I'll take the under, but I think the delay will be huge like the second SSBB delay...
chris @ Jan 25th 2008 10:13AM
I say no delay. They haven't given a release date yet and won't until they're absolutely sure. No more SSBB fiascos!
converge666 @ Jan 25th 2008 10:13AM
I'll take a delay if they are going to make the game that much better in the long run....look at Metroid's delay!!
That and I have more then enough good games to hold me over.
samfish @ Jan 25th 2008 10:42AM
Mario Kart is definitely November of '08. Wii Fit is likely either May or September, sadly.
...unless Nintendo is hiding something up their sleeve.
Co @ Jan 25th 2008 10:49AM
Hopefully it's Disaster: Day of Crysis that they're hiding.
Neal Eaton @ Jan 25th 2008 10:58AM
I agree that we won't get this game until the holiday period...October at the earliest. That is OK with me as long as we get the polished experience and lag-free Wi-Fi game that I think we are all hoping for.
So I think we will see at least 2 more delays...1 from Spring '08 moving to Summer '08, then another from Summer to Fall.
vidGuy @ Jan 25th 2008 11:06AM
Twice. One from the current date until April and then until November 08 when it will actually release.
Steve Gano @ Jan 25th 2008 11:06AM
Quick find NWF :) Reserving Mario Kart only popped up yesterday (Gamestop manager here), I'm going to guess 3 date changes, and a launch in November... Maybe October.
Stupid company, I can't understand why they'd even joke that it's coming April.
Leeroy @ Jan 25th 2008 11:15AM
Also don't expect we'll be seeing Mariokart released until pre-Christmas time, maybe end of September at earliest.
Annoys me with Nintendo the way they just love to keep us in the dark, often leaving titles penciled in for certain dates until they've past before telling us what we've by that time already figured out, "delayed, you don't say?"
There hasn't been any new info on this game since it was announced last May, with exception some really ropey video showing off the Bikes, no new videos, screens, hands-on previews, details, nothing! Thanks for keeping me up to date about my favourite franchise Nintendo!
Anyway, at the end of the day if they hold it back until an online headset is released all the better, I'll wait.... and before people reply with the "but the online abuse you'll hear!" comments, I just want to have a laugh with my mates online as I do most nights on Xbox Live, not play in silence like it's a single player game with better AI.
Aero @ Jan 25th 2008 11:28AM
I agree with everyone else, it's most likely November. I seriously think that Nintendo is just delaying their titles just to lengthen the Wii's lifespan. If you look back a year ago you can see that many of the titles were grouped up within the last quarter of 2007 and very beginning of 2008. But now looking back you can see that many of the games got delayed and were evenly spread out to give a good game at least every few months. The reasons that Nintendo gives are bogus.
Nate @ Jan 25th 2008 11:45AM
We'll see 3 delays, from April to June, June to August, and August to November 26 or so.

"A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever."
--Shigeru Miyamoto
I know delays can be really annoying, but I think that's an excellent point. What's more annoying than delays is when people try to release things too early just to make a holiday deadline or something when it's still quite buggy. As far as how long it will take to release any given game, just remember the words of the developers of Duke Nukem Forever: "We're making the game. It'll be done when it's done." =P
Fullmetal Salchemist @ Jan 25th 2008 1:32PM
I work at GameStop, and even though our computer says April as the release date (how stupid would it be to release this a month after Smash Bros.?), I've been telling people to expect it around Winter/Christmas/holiday season.
gevenstaines @ Jan 25th 2008 2:13PM
I agree with everyone: November. I don't care if it's Nov 2009 (hopefully not!) as long as the powerslide button is also jump like DS and 64 versions.
murray b @ Jan 25th 2008 7:07PM
If it is April it is huge!!!! But I'd be surprised if this came out any day other than black friday.
tiamat1990 @ Jan 25th 2008 7:59PM
Twice, into Q2 then into Q4. I'm so sure of it.
