We almost forgot what Dragon Quest Swords looked like [update]
Seriously, we're looking forward to the title and all, but it's been so long. The game released in Japan months ago, yet the rest of us are left sitting and waiting for Square Enix's Dragon Quest spin-off. Now, with just about a month until it releases here in the states, it would appear the first ad for the game has found its way onto the internet. Sadly, we're not sure if this is the first of many or the entirety of Square Enix's television marketing campaign.
Update: Reader strongbad80 writes in to inform us that this is a video to be played inside game stores such as Gamestop and not a television ad.

The game actually looks promising but i worried about the "making shapes" part where she has to draw an eight. I could never "draw shapes" in SSX blur and ended up barely playing it. I hope I don't have the same problem here.
that makes me remember, in Call of Duty I could never defeat the motion control portion where the nazi knocks you down and your supposed to wrestle the gun away. i tried a bunch of times but never could do it. I had to learn the code to unlock all the levels and skip to the next level everytime it came up. anyone else have that problem?

I hope that wasn't too off topic :-)

So is there a story behind this game? Levels? Better equipment? Magic? Something that would make me want to hack/slash my way through all of those monsters?
I loved Dragon Warrior/Quest, but if it's just going to be hack n slash, I think I'll look elsewhere. Sad - I had higher hopes than that.
As for the commercial - I hope that's not it. Willing suspension of disbelief does not work that well to see most girls getting into DQ Swords. (Some, probably, but not most.)

He totally just walked in, tucked the safety strap under the Wiimote, and started flinging it around. What a dummy!

This game looks horrible. Gameplay looks excessively simplistic. I can't see it NOT become boring five minutes in.
That said, might be a great purchase if you have a five-year old brother or son in the house.
