Dojo update: Manaphy and Iwata asks
Today's dojo update is a pretty good one, as we not only get shown a new Pokemon that has a pretty unique skill, but also get another installment in Iwata Asks, where the Nintendo president not only apologizes for the Smash Bros. delay, but also talks about some other stuff. As interesting as that is, we're going to shift things back to the new Pokemon included in Smash Bros. Brawl.Manaphy has a unique ability where it will swap the hearts of two combatants. What this does is cause them to switch bodies, essentially changing your character should you get caught in Manaphy's ability. For example, you can see Zelda and DK switching bodies here.

I'm a bit confused about this.
DK attacks Zelda, does DK's damage go up? Or does damage freeze during the swap and you can only score if you get knocked off?

gorecki, if you read teh smash bros update, it just switches your character. So you keep your damage level, it's just like if you had picked that character at start. So the game goes on, you just play as a different character.

Oh hell yes! Just like in Saturday morning cartoons!
.... so what happens if Snake and ZS Samus get switched?

looks like this move can be used to KO a difficult rival by switching them with an easier rival who is about to die. at least i hope...

No, near as i can tell, it's just a body switch
Player 1 has 30% damage, using Ness. Player 2 has 80% damage, using Wario. Manaphy comes. Player 1 has 30% damage, using Wario. Player 2 has 80% damage, using Ness.

This edition of Iwata Asks was really interesting, especially the part where Iwata said that if Sakurai hadn't come back for a new Smash that Nintendo wouldn't have even tried making a sequel and would have just made a wi-fi enabled version of Melee instead.

Often Nintendo knows better than to dick up a core franchise. Perhaps they saw what had happened when they passed StarFox around like a proverbial dooby to various 2nd and 3rd parties (Rare, Namco, and Q Entertainment)

Well, Rare was making Starfox Adventures without the StarFox license tacked on. Nintendo knew what they were getting fox into there.
Still, I liked Starfox Adventures enough...

I love love LOVE this ability. I have too many friends who only use 3-4 characters, while I select randomly every time. I can't wait to say "No Kirby for you. Not yours."
