Too much missing from Days of Ruin?
Unbalanced CO powers and dual-screen battles aren't the only features dropped from Advance Wars: Days of Ruin. Modojo editor Justin Davis played through the turn-based strategy title and found the lack of packed-in extras disappointing:- No War Room
- No unlockable hard campaign
- No Battle Maps shop
- No Survival mode
- No Combat mode
- No tags/rankings outside of the medals screen
- Only 12 playable COs (compared to Dual Strike's 25+ COs)
Also, the War Room hasn't completely disappeared, as you still have the option to play Versus maps, a collection of classic, new, and Trial Mission scenarios, minus the ranking at the end of the battle. And don't forget that you can download maps online! That almost makes up for all off the missing stuff ... Almost.

No War Room or Hard mode is disappointing to me. There was a lot of depth there with those modes, but I imagine the online play does make up for it.
Not too bothered about the lack of unlockables. To be honest, while it was nice to have some incentive to rack up those points, I'd rather it just be right there. Besides, I haven't even come close to buying all the stuff thats in the shop. What they give you right off the bat is so huge you'd have to invest hundreds of hours to go through all of it.
Anyhow, I imagine that the game still retains as much depth as Dual Strike - perhaps even more so as the potential for the map center means you won't ever really run out, even if they are small maps. I'm going to try to pick my copy up today, fingers crossed the store has it.

I could care less about the features that were "dropped". The online play more than makes up for the war room and the hard mode, its endless fun waiting to happen!

No War Room is a real disappointment... (Battle Maps kinda goes hand in hand). So you're supposed to sit through campaign mode every time you want some action? Not everyone has access to wifi all the time for a quick head to head. I mean, I have wifi at home but it doesn't work in my comfy living room so... And if you play against cpu, then you have to go through all the story and you can't choose which map you feel like playing...
Seems really odd that they left that out. Though maybe it became unlockable? Beat the game, get war room? No? Wishfull thinking?

Don't worry, if you want Singleplayer-action, there's the Free Battle Mode, which is basically the same as the War Room.

It's still very playable. I'm enjoying it, even though the music RAPES MY EARS.

No War Room is a shame for sure, but if the Campaign is long and difficult (as it should be b/c all the training is like AW1 Field Training) then that's fine. AWDS Hard Campaign was a joke, so yeah I didn't want to see anything like that. The other extras I don't care about (hated Survival).

Apologies for the quick judgement, I'm glad to confirm what hutze said: there is a war room, it's just called free battle now :)
Hurray for advance wars!

@ Basman:
Is it really that bad?

So I tried the wifi, and it's pretty sweet. Battles flow nicely. But in my first game my opponent quit b4 I crushed him. (dumb noob built missiles on a map w.o. airports...)

Wi-fi is super smooth. Since I'm new to the series, when I started this up I was almost overwhelmed. This game makes fftactics and the like seem slow and boring. I am an instant convert. The online matches have been pretty cool so far. I think the music is pretty great so far, very intense. There is just so much stuff to do with this game. Again i'm new to the series.
