Korea buys one million DSes, throws massive party

Or at least, we hope they did, because let's face it: that's a pretty good reason to celebrate. According to Nintendo of Korea -- or a company posing as Nintendo of Korea -- the handheld passed the seven-figure mark on December 27, eleven months after it launched there. One million units may not sound like a big number in a nation with a population of 50 million, but don't forget that Nintendo has only recently established a presence in the MMO-mad country.
Fortunately for Nintendo, we've already hit upon an idea that should establish a DS hegemony in South Korea for the next millennium or so. Thank us later, guys.

Cool. Here's hoping some Korean devs make some fun RTS and MMO's for it now.
Or Blizzard realizes they can make a killing by porting starcraft 64.

Few people in Korea would buy StarCraft for the DS. The lack of hotkeys would kill the fast paced and highly competitive nature of the game. Nintendo would first have to create a keyboard peripheral for the DS and add another touchscreen for the minimap. :)
Around what age are most DS owners in Korea? I'm surprised that the DS and PSP are actually doing ok there right now.

For some perspective, take a look at how other consoles are doing in Korea: PSP - 350 thousand, Xbox 360 - 170 thousand, PS3 - 10 thousand.
