Wii's cuisine reigns supreme
A product listing for an Iron Chef game on Wii and DS showed up on GameStop (the listing has since vanished), and Siliconera's Spencer Yip indicated that he is aware of such a game in development at Destineer. Destineer has yet to make any announcements regarding the game, so this remains unconfirmed. If true, this couldn't be more perfect fit for Nintendo systems, as an overblown, hyperactive counterpart to the mellow Cooking Mama, currently the champion of Nintendo cooking games. Iron Chef is already structured similarly to a fighting game, as well!
Unfortunately, Spencer says that the game will be based on the Iron Chef America show and not the superior original. No matter how many times the show is remade, Chairman Kaga Takeshi (pictured) taking a hearty bite out of a pepper will always be the iconic image of Iron Chef. Maybe we'll be able to unlock the original cast, so that we can lose to the King of Iron Chef, Iron Chef French Hiroyuki Sakai.
It seems likely that the voice of Iron Chef America, Chairman Mark Dacascos, will appear in the game (if the game is real), as he has a history with the medium. In addition to starring in the Double Dragon movie, Dacascos recently voiced a character in John Woo's Stranglehold.

Original Iron Chef FTW.

As long as there's witty commentary from Alton Brown, I could be on board with the american version.

Here here! AB is my hero.

100% agree

I'd be interested in buying this, as long as it's at a budget price.

If it turns out pretty good I'll buy it at regular price. Especially if they can include enough ingredients (and a lot of different secret ingredients)

I like Alton Brown a lot for sure but the Original Iron Chef was by far the best.
I have a problem with Iron Chef America in that all the challengers seem to be members of the Food Network in some way. They compete in the Food Network challenges or have their own shows. It's pathetic. I've only seen a few challengers on that show that I hadn't seen before in some sort of Food Network related event. Hell they even use Iron Chef America to promote new Food Network shows like the new Jamie Oliver show.
The original Iron Chef would bring chefs from all over... They had challengers from China, America, France and Italy just to name a few countries. They didn't just invite their friends.
I haven't seen Iron Chef America do that once.
Also that whole "The Next Iron Chef" reality show thing was a joke.
I still like Iron Chef America and a few Food Network shows but I'm really starting to dislike that station. I mean seriously they play 2 freaking hours of Rachel Ray every gd day. f that.
Anthony Bourdain and Andrew Zimmern on the Travel Channel are far more entertaining.

To even remotley suggest that the original Iron Chef and the American Iron Chef are, in any way, on the same level is an affront to god, apple pie, puppy dogs, and most assuredly your mother. Original is the ONLY Iron Chef IMO.

The crappy thing is that they quit showing the original show. I've only seen it come on like twice since Iron Chef America started coming on.

Ohta: Fukui-san!
Fukui: Yes go, Ohta
Ohta: It appears that the developers are are really not doing the game justice, basing it on the American Version. Also, that was a mixture of swallow's nest and hot bean paste.
Fukui: Mmmm, right you are Ohta.

Today's secret ingredient is: WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMES

hahaha nice

Hey, if you're going to list Mark's video game-related efforts, don't forget Wing Commander IV.
Mark's actually a client of mine, and a damn nice guy. I'm happy to hear he's doing more in-game voice work.
JC Fletcher @ Jan 4th 2008 12:02PM
Well, this is all speculative, including the existence of the game. But given that he's done game work before, I doubt he'd want to pass on voicing his own character in this game.
TurboFool @ Jan 4th 2008 1:39PM
That's what I get for speed-reading the article. Well, I wouldn't be surprised if they cheaped-out on us and didn't pay for him or just used pre-recorded sound bites from the show. Here's to hoping they put in the effort, though.
Alzheimers @ Jan 4th 2008 5:06PM
As long as it's not the "William Shatner as the Chairman" Iron Chef: USA version, I think we'll all be better off...
