Konami takes cue from Sega, brings arcade shooter to Wii

But, in all seriousness, look at this. The only word that comes to mind is trash. This looks like a pretty atrocious game, one where the developers can't even face their own mothers out of disgust for what they've unleashed upon the world. For how much fun people have made at the expense of Ghost Squad, it looks like a AAA blockbuster compared to this.

KONAMI BRINGS OLD-SCHOOL ARCADE ACTION TO THE NINTENDO WII™ WITH TARGET: TERROR™
First Konami Title Compatible with Wii Zapper™ Peripheral, Features Fast-Paced Run 'N' Gun Action, Dual Wielding and Fun Mini-Games
El Segundo, CA – January 3, 2007 – Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. announced that Target: Terror™ is currently in development for the Nintendo Wii™. The game is based on Target: Terror Gold, the top-grossing arcade game of 2006 and designed by arcade pioneer Eugene Jarvis, founder of Raw Thrills, Inc., the developer of Big Buck Hunter PRO.
Target: Terror is the first game from Konami that will be compatible with Nintendo's new Wii Zapper™; players will be able to capture the old-school flavor of fast-paced light gun shooters from gaming's glory days of the arcades. Target: Terror puts players in the role of an elite counter-terrorist agent charged with protecting the U.S. from an ever-increasing wave of terrorist threats.
With a full-scale assault spanning the entire nation, players can show these terrorist thugs who's boss, using an assortment of lethal weapons including machine guns,
grenade launchers, freeze guns, flamethrowers and even an orbital laser beam from space. Target: Terror also features a unique "Justice Mode," allowing players to dual-wield weapons for twice the mayhem.
Target: Terror also features an unlockable offering of fun and humorous mini-games inspired by a variety of arcade classics.
Developed by Leviathan Games, Target: Terror is expected to explode onto the Wii in Q1 of 2008. For more information, visit the website at www.konami.com.

Let me guess: you have no experience with the arcade version from 2006 and are just guessing based on these admittedly awkward screens. I bet it will be fun, especially if its budget priced (like 'Ghost Squad'). I mean come on, a 'giant orbital beam from space' and you aren't excited?!?! And the only jokes I've heard about Ghost Squad were from people who own it who love it and like to laugh at the ridiculous voice acting, the silliness of which pretty much add to the game rather than take away from it. And Panda Suits.

It's not that fun...
I'm not too surprised none of you dared to touch those arcade systems, but I did...
It's really simply "OKAY" AT MOST.
No fun factor like Ghost Squad's ridiculous voice acting and gimmicks.
And the shooting ain't that fun either...
Bleh.

All posts should end with a Starship Troopers reference...

Yeah, if it's like $19.99 or less...maybe.

Unfortunately, it's listed at Amazon for $39.99 (release date 2/5/08).

I've seen the arcade unit in a couple spots. Far from anything groundbreaking or engaging, but if they price it at $20, it could be a cheap thrill.

This is great news. Now just waiting for Namco to state they're porting some of the Time Crisis series over and then I have all my favourite guncon arcade classics on the Wii.

Wow, I know, gameplay over graphics and all that, but...this looks nearly as old as Lethal Enforcers! What resolution are we looking at here? 320x240?
Discosis @ Jan 3rd 2008 9:28PM
Why on earth hasn't Namco given us Time Crisis yet?? :(

Agree, it really looks like trash!
Are you sure it isn't a homebrew game?

Is it just me, or are Wii games becoming more and more of a joke?

We'll have to wait and see.
BTW - Ghost Squad was a big hit at our house this Christmas. We have had a blast playing and unlocking content, and trying to beat each other's scores. Its our party game of choice till Brawl comes out.
