Nunchuks turning pink?
The nunchuks in our house (both for combat and for our Wii) have stayed the original color at which we purchased them. No fading, no problems with them on our end. We didn't leave them sitting on a window ledge or something for 95% of their lifespan, so we're confident they're still the same as they were on day one.
And, these nunchuks pictured above aren't as old as ours, recently purchased before the Christmas holiday. But, as the peripherals were played with for hours on end by the lucky recipients, they started to change color. Interesting. And, more people over at the Nintendo forums are reporting the same thing.
Any of you having this problem yourselves?

Mine turned Blue and ive only had it a week strange
seetrapp @ Dec 31st 2007 10:44PM
Maybe they were stained by the eager gamers' blood. However, the nunchuks themselves aren't pink; so maybe there was a strangulation-type deal.
Avoli @ Dec 31st 2007 10:45PM
Strange. Had mine in all kinds of environments (none too harmful), and they never changed. Maybe someone had one of those shirts you sweat in and then change colors (oh the 90s..), and put that crap in the plastic molding paint.
RunsWithFire @ Jan 1st 2008 12:31PM
mine turned yellow
bigrome @ May 5th 2008 3:52AM
wow thatts weird
AnOffday @ Dec 31st 2007 11:02PM
Yeah. I think it's safe to say that there isn't a problem with the Wii remote. Whoever was playing with those has a serious skin problem.
Matt @ Dec 31st 2007 11:10PM
Two Words: "Wii Puberty!"
Van Faulk @ Dec 31st 2007 11:41PM
Man, if they turned blue I would WANT it to happen.
Dopple Boppler @ Dec 31st 2007 11:47PM
The analog sticks on my Classic Controller have started to yellow, which I thought was weird since I hardly ever use it, especially in comparison to the Nunchuk, but yeah, my launch day Nunchuk is still fine~
LilCo187 @ Jan 1st 2008 5:18PM
I think making the analog sticks on the Wii controllers WHITE was a bad choice. The material just isn't right for white. They should have made all analog sticks GRAY to match the trimmings and text on the controllers, also matching the Wii Stand.
Kenny Wisdom @ Dec 31st 2007 11:55PM
I've never had this happen to me.
However, as Dopple Boppler pointed out, I have had my sticks turn yellow/orange after my friends have played with them for hours. I've also seen several demo kits in stores where the sticks are the same color. I'm going to willing to bet it's a side-effect of a lot of play/sweat/maybe some chemical in people's bodies?
The weird thing is that it's never happened to me, or my girlfriend, or my Cousin (all of whom live with me), but only 2 or 3 of my friends. It's probably something like...they're cleaner or dirtier than me, or use certain soaps, or something like that.

The above picture looks a little fake, though.

I guess it means that they are having a girl.
gdog @ Jan 1st 2008 1:20AM

Johnny Wolf @ Jan 1st 2008 12:09AM

hvnlysoldr @ Jan 1st 2008 8:44AM
The nsider forums are still closed but the technical support/customer service forums are still open.
Tyrannous @ Jan 1st 2008 12:24AM

tiamat1990 @ Jan 1st 2008 12:28AM
Well my ones turning yellow.
3cubed minus 3squared plus1 @ Jan 1st 2008 1:23PM
Hey mine has that problem as well.
Its only on one of them though.
Dudeman22 @ Jan 1st 2008 12:34AM
My nunchuck didn't change like that at all. But it did look like, it may have just been me, the control stick on the one that came with the wii is starting to turn a bit yellow.
TheFireStorm @ Jan 1st 2008 1:21AM
Mine are starting to turn blue ware the wire comes out of the Nunchuk and it ware the palm of my hand touches when i hold the Nunchuk
Ranus Studios @ Jan 1st 2008 1:11AM
LEAD PAINT!
IT'S LEAD PAINT THAT'S COMING OFF!
OH GOD SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!
ScoTT @ Jan 1st 2008 1:27AM
I've never had that happen to me. Maybe a glitch in recently released nunchucks causes them to express their feminine side once they get to know their owners.
Otterly @ Jan 1st 2008 1:31AM
its a HOAX, why didn't the underside turn pink toom that would have recieved the most heat or friction from the hand, expect for the joystick. Also the pink color is very blotchy as if it was spray painted.
ScoTT @ Jan 1st 2008 1:37AM
lol That would be so hilarious if it turned out to be a hoax.
Two guys:
"Let's do something to get publicity on the internet."
"I've got an idea! Randomly paint Wii nunchucks!"
lol I guess it worked.
plyx @ Jan 1st 2008 2:18AM
U R MR GAY
B @ Jan 1st 2008 2:27AM
I bet it's fake. Search google and the same pic comes up a whole bunch.
Look at the condition of the floor, obviously these people don't know how to take care of anything.
Fuzzyfreaker @ Jan 1st 2008 5:37AM
Actually, this has happened to me.
I thought it was just something that one of my friends had gotten onto my nunchuck after a particularly long Wii gaming session, but I left 'em sitting for a while after trying to clean 'em, and yeah, both of the control sticks on both my nunchucks have a slight pink tint to 'em. Not as bad as in the picture above, but still apparent. Maybe i'll get a picture up later. That's weird though, didn't think that others were experiencing this.
wiiwii @ Jan 1st 2008 6:52AM
That's odd. My stick tends to turn blue if it's not played with enough. I've had in turn orange before, but that's usually because I eat Doritos before playing with my Wii.
Garst @ Jan 1st 2008 7:05AM
Women need to use a bathroom when they're menstrating, and not use nunchuks as tampons.
mariocdl @ Jan 1st 2008 10:51AM
This happened to me to! Of cause not as bad, it was only a slight tint. I know it sounds odd, but I recon its blood that's been wiped and dried on thier hands, then it simply gets rubbed onto the nunchuck like this.
Yadamon @ Jan 1st 2008 9:59AM
could've been some sort of fire-retardant substances reacting with the oxygen but then those usually turns yellow.
When one of you guys mentioned the floor.
I think, it might be the way they take care of things that causes this, probably used some kind of cleaning agent that reacts with rubber/plastic, see how it is not pink under the analog stick, and how uneven it is on the cable. I'm quite positive that it comes from cleaning the nunchuck with some kind of cleaning agent that doesn't go well with the material used.
ssuk @ Jan 1st 2008 10:05AM
That's quite strange, however not unheard of. The rubbery-plastic they use to coat the wiring and the analogue stick may be a shade of red when manufactured, as the surface wears, the red shows through.
Tom @ Jan 1st 2008 10:06AM
Well THAT picture is believable! Seriously, though, why would the cable all turn pink? Wouldn't that maybe be a reaction from some chemicals or something? And if that were the case, wouldn't it affect the entire nunchuk? Susipciousssssss.....
Bobby Gonzales @ Jan 2nd 2008 12:17AM
Not really, considering that the wire is made of, you know wire. and the nunchuck is made of plastic.
fluffbox @ Jan 1st 2008 10:32AM
Wow that's so cool! I wish my controllers were colored like that!
Patrick @ Jan 1st 2008 10:57AM
There having their periods...duh...you do know Nunchucks ARE ALIVE...
Maya @ Jan 1st 2008 11:18AM
They look cute XD
Rocketboy @ Jan 1st 2008 12:29PM
Looks fake. Who leaves the freakin stickers on the wires? Lamers, that's who. If it isn't fake, they deserve it for leaving the stickers on.
Conda @ Jan 1st 2008 1:35PM
the plastic of the analog stick and the cable is different than the plastic of the nunchuck itself, much softer and porous, makes sense to me if its absorbing something and the nunchuck itself isnt
Andrew @ Jan 1st 2008 1:52PM
my cable is fine but the "sticks" on both tips are slightly faded orange, and I'm not sure why, I always wash my hands and stuff before using...
FX-1 @ Jan 1st 2008 2:10PM
One of my joysticks started to turn orange, but that was more from playing after handling Dorritos than anything.
Steelwurm @ Jan 1st 2008 2:17PM
It's common knowledge that this type of plastic turns pink when it comes in contact with crack smoke - delicious, delicious crack smoke
Neko @ Jan 2nd 2008 3:03PM
Yeah, mine are almost a year old, and I've never heard of that. That would be awesome, though, as long as they aren't sticky or anything, because pink is my favroite color.
gfvhilgbjhikv @ Jan 1st 2008 4:05PM
my nunchuks analog stick is orange but thats because i eat cheetos while plying
Cal @ Jan 1st 2008 8:00PM
I think this is a hoax/fake, since the image is in the poster's "Forum Fun" folder in their photobucket album. Though, it could just be the folder for things related to forums.
Ray Smuckles @ Jan 2nd 2008 12:58AM
I can confirm that this is true. I saw this story the other day and didn't think much of it, but today I noticed that the cable on the nunchuck we use with the primary controller has started to turn pink, near where it connects to the nunchuck itself.
We got our Wii at launch, however I'm not sure if the nunchuck is from then, or one of the ones we've bought since.
deathwombat @ Jan 1st 2008 9:07PM
Ahoy, Maties!
If the water turns blue, a baby for you!

melanieelaine @ Jan 2nd 2008 10:48AM
I sooo want pink nunchuks! they should make them like that! pink is the new white!
jruschme @ Jan 19th 2008 4:30PM
Interesting... today I received two Wiimote covers from Nintendo. When I went to put them with the one we already had, I noticed how it had taken on a pinkish tint.
In this case, the wiimote cover really only got used for the first few days after Christmas. After that, we usually left it off as it was too much trouble taking it off to put the 'mote in the Nyko charger.
I'm guessing that something in the plastic is actually oxydizing, causing the color change.
